One of my sister's coworkers wants to bring her family to WDW in August. She is former military and was asking about discounts. I don't know much about it or how it works but I'm hoping someone here can answer my questions so I can explain it to her.

I saw the military salute tickets. Can she buy those at Shades of Green? What kind of ID does she need?

She is wanting to stay at Shades of Green too. Any information she needs?

I'm clueless about this!

Just being prior military does not always qualify you. She needs to be "retired military", meaning 20 years, or disabled AND retired, as opposed to disabled and honorably discharged. Basically if she has a valid military ID in her possession, she should qualify.

I would point her to this link for hotel discounts: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/military-hotel-rate/ and this one for park tickets: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/military-4-day-tickets/

Edited: Obviously active duty military also receive these discounts, but since OP said the person was "former military" I didn't go into the active duty portion....there are other benefits for active duty. Search Disney's website for active duty.

Thanks! I will send her those links. She may be in the reserves now, but I'm not sure! Pardon my ignorance, but does being in the reserves qualify her?

This is the eligibility link for Shades of Green -it is not solely for active duty military. Active Duty, Reserves, Retired Military, Honorably Discharged w/100% service related disability rating from the VA, as well as Dept. of Defense Civilians are all eligible to stay at Shades (as well as few other groups as well - the link lists them all). DH is both AF Reserve and a DOD Civilian, and he would qualify to stay at Shades under either of those alone.

As far as I am aware, Shades is also still running their Salute to Veterans program, where honorably discharged veterans (not retired) may stay at Shades in January and September - at least in 2014 they were doing so. You may have to call Shades about this offer. I'm not sure if one stays at Shades under this offer if they are also allowed to purchase the discounted tickets that Shades sells, but I would imagine they do.

The Armed Forces Salute 4-Day park hopper tickets and the discounted hotel rates through Disney require a valid military ID. If you qualify for those, you would also qualify to stay at Shades of Green.

Yes, being in the reserves would give her a current, valid, military ID and would qualify her for Disney's Armed Forces Salute tickets and hotel rates, as well as qualify her for staying at Shades of Green.

One last questions, I think! The salute tickets are 4 days, can they add more days?

No, you cannot add days to the 4 day salute ticket. The only thing you can do is use two, back to back, but that is only if you have 3 or less people, as the limit for a service member is 6. The tickets can be bought at SOG or any military ITT office or a WDW park ticket office or in DTD.

You cannot add days, but you CAN add the water parks and more option which would give them more Disney stuff to do on their extra days.
