Does anyone know if Disney typically allows the military discount during the busy summer season? We used the discount last May but were looking to go Summer 2004 and were wondering if past history indicated that this was possible! Can we make reservations now and then transfer the military discount once it is announced by Disney?
Also, has anyone ever gotten a military discount from other cruise lines?
Thanks!

Disney does not always have a Military special.... The one currently running ends Dec. 18 or 19. There is no guarantee they'll have another one next year. That's why we decided to take advantage of it now. I guess there is a chance that as long as the services are maintaining such high rates of deployment and Disney needs the business that they will offer another Military Special next year, but I am not planning on it.

I realize that we don't know yet if they will have a military discount for 2004 but was wondering if anyone was able to use it for summer 2003 or do they block out those weeks because they're peak sailing dates???

I'm probably not much help here, but thought I'd say something anyway. We haven't used the Military special offers on DCL for any summer cruises, yet anyway. But, I have followed them pretty closely over the past year and a half or so.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but it seems to me that they did have military special offers last summer, as well as this summer.

That's true, DCL's military offers are for specific timeframes. Seems they many times continue them, or come out with new offers. They are never guaranteed to continue them though.

The best I can think of to say is that I hope they continue their specials and have them for the timeframe you want to cruise in during the summer.

Can you give me an idea of these specials? BIL is in Iraq, has been since March and will be at least until next March. He wants to do the military WDW deal when he gets out with his wife and my 3 nieces, but I"m thinking they'd LOVE the cruise.

Rock'n Robin: Take a look at www.allseastravel.com I find that one of the few websites that actually lists the special military discount pricing for DCL. At least for the current military dicounts anyway. I believe these run through 12/19/2003, but it seems DCL usually continues some type of military discount.

I've noticed that the Information, Ticketing, and Reservation offices here anyway do discounted cruise bookings for DCL and other cruise lines. I imagine this does change from time to time, but good to know anyway.

WELL if Disney does not offer this every year they should!!!!!

I am not currently a military dependent, but I am a regular Disney customer and I will be sure to drop them a line strongly encouraging them to continue this special offer.

Our military and their families deserve every perk possible and it certainly won't set Disney back to continue this offer.

Heck, I would pay more if I knew for certain that my $$ would be put towards defraying the costs for a military family.

I hope the discounts work out for each of you!

May God bless the United States military and their families!

We cruised on the 8/9 Eastern Magic and our table mates were Air Force active duty and she told me that they got a very good deal with the Military discount. So the special did run in summer, hope this helps.

Rock'n Robin - There is a resort at WDW called Shades of Green that is exclusively for active duty military. They have just gone through a big renovation. Here is the link: http://www.armymwr.com/shades/index.html

The rates are based on rank.

As for the military discount for DCL, we booked a Cat 6 for 2 adults and 2 kids and saved over half for our December 6 cruise. It does end in December and I was told to keep calling back to see if they will offer it again. Hope this helps.

The renovation at Shades of Green is not going to be completed until March 2004. However, they are booking people into the North wing of the Contemporary at the SOG rates. The rooms fill up very fast. If you call and your days are booked ask to be put on the waiting list. I did this about four weeks ago for our trip in the middle of October, then made reservations at Port Orleans using the military discount of 40%. Well, I got a call last week that the days we needed had opened up at SOG, so I took that room and cancelled the PO reservation. We are coming in at about $100 less.
