Military and DVC

Thanks to all of you who answered my questions. My husband and I now have a new Home at SSR. We won't be in the army forever.

Welcome home and congrats!

We've stayed at SSR twice now enjoyed it very much both times!

Have fun!

Hello!

Another Army family checking in. My DH was hooked after his 1st visit to Disney last year for our planning session that we had for our Disney Wedding. Since then we have done a 4 night Honeymoon Cruise on DCL, a 7 night western on R & R and a 7 night stay at BCV. We joined DVC while on the cruise during the 15 anniversary sale.

Most of our trips are booked last minute and we ahven't run into a problem yet.

Just wanted to say hello!

Welcome Home! I too am in the military, Air Force. I have found joining DVC to be great for me. I've been able to take my dad and his wife twice, good friends 3 separate times using 2 bedroom lockoffs, and my "little" sister has gone twice with me as well. It's been a blessing in disguise because I now only pay the dues. I like that I don't have a large bill at the end of my stay which makes it easier to budget for trips. I haven't had to cancel any trips yet due to my job but there may be one coming up for my trip in 2 weeks. . . It would be the first time in my 10 years as a DVC member so I cannot complain.

My husband is in the Army and we are looking into DVC after two trips to WDW last year. Because of his occupation, we never know what we are doing year to year. My question is this, we usually only have a four month window to make plans, would we still be able to book on this short notice. If there are any other military families that are members I would love some of your input as to how it works for you.

Well,
I'm the oposite of most of the replies you've had. My dad is a retired Marine who still can make ressies at the SOG. I've personally stayed there and you can pretty much get a room for around $250 a night that would rival a grand villa. I know the studios there are around $111/night but are larger than the studios at the dvc resorts. I really like the SOG, mostly because the palm and magnolia are right outside your door. The restraunt is reasonable also, and they now have a starbucks!
