Miley Cyrus... why?

Annie Liebovitz is a fantastic photographer and I have admired her work for years. This photo of Miley really isn't a very artistic one (IMHO) and really doesn't look like Annie's work (although I am sure it is). I really don't think it is a good photo of Miley - That being said, I believe these photos of Miley are completely inappropriate.

I think Miley was completely taken advantage of. I am sure there were hundreds of photos taken during this photo session, but Vanity Fair narrowed in on these photos because they knew it would create a stir. It's all about selling magazines.

I also feel that Miley needs to be a little more smart about these photos being released. There were other ones last week of her laying across her boyfriend(?) and her flashing her bra, etc. She is a HUGE Disney franchise and and it could all go away in a moment. I am sure there are many photographers that follow and hound her trying to get the "shot" that takes her down. (ala Britney Spears)

Miley is a role model, whether we would like to admit it or not, there are many little girls that do look up to her. But I am thankful that Miley does have a supportive and loving family that will help her get through this.

Just America going over-the-top stupid about nudity again.

When will folks realize that making a big deal about it gives is MORE attention than if it is ignored? I also wonder what effect all this attention paid to this stuff has on all those attention-starved girls who's parents are showing more passion towards this than towards what's going on in their own child's lives. Probably the exact opposite of what was intended.

I think if she weren't a minor that it wouldn't be a big deal at all. The photos aren't bad FOR AN ADULT. This is a CHILD. If she waited 5 or 6 more years before posing like this, no one would probably even bat an eye at the photo.

I just do not get it. As far as I can see it, she is right on time! People tend to take these children singers etc, and use them as role models for there children, and for some reason when they start to grow up, get all bent out of shape!!
I am sorry, but we have seen it with Britney, (people thinkng she had breast implants etc) and Christina, Lindsey..and so on! People, these kids do grow up! Only it is before our eyes, which seems for some reason to be a shocker to some!!!
I do not feel she should have to apologize for that!

I just do not get it!:sad2:

I just heard on the Today Show that her PR people are trying to say she's embarrassed...

Where were these people when the pictures were being approved?

This sounds like a set up.

I've said it before and I will say it again... I wouldn't be suprised if some of this is self-imposed.

The bra shots with boyfriend on her own myspace (she or someone she knew put them there)

This is something she could have said no to= a simple that's not comfortable etc.. Remember Marily Monroe did a similar picture a long time ago and she was an adult. Lindsey Lohan even duplicated those Marilyn "sheet" shots a while ago.

I've read some comments where she is "tired" and "exhausted". That being said, it would not suprise me where this was all crafted in part by her.

Even 3 years would be fine. My problem is that they are seductive and suggestive. That's what is inappropriate for a 15 year old. If it was a bathing suit with a towel on the beach showing exactly the same amount of bare skin, it would be harmless.

I will say we went to the freee Miley Cyrus concert last summer in NYC.

We got there and saw the long line at the beginning of the park. In the very front of the line were two 50+ year old men by themselves with no children with signs saying Miley #1 fan.

Can we say perv?

ETA: My 13 year old son saw the picture this morning. The first thing he said was "Why did they let her do that?"

I thought the pictures were in good taste. The ones of her and here father were touching.
:confused3 :confused3

I read this too fast and thought you said there were photos of her and her father touching [each other] and I threw up a little in my mouth.

Nothing goes away because it's IGNORED. Nudity is not the problem there is a difference between nudity and seductivism. You can be seductive in a muu muu, doesn't make it age appropriate for a 15yo.

Point made, SOME demographics will LIKE this.

Would this not be considered a form of child porn?:sad2:

after looking at the photos, I think people are over reacting as ususall!! Are you kidding me? The photos are nice!! OMG!:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Definitely inappropriate. I would never dream of letting my 15 yo pose for a picture like that. Nudity or near nudity in a pic of an adult is one thing, but for a child?

As the mom of Hannah Montana's biggest fan (and believe me I had the credit card bills and pictures to prove it) I have to say that although I think they are incredibly mature photos for a 15 yearold girl.... I also think that a parent who encourages their child to "admire" an actor/actress in anyway is worrisome.

They are entertainers, not nobel peace winners.... I really don't think children should be raised to have idols in their lives... How about being a good role model for your child...

I always tell my DD that Miley is an actress (and a mediocre one at that) and the music and show is for purposes of enjoyment, if my 9 y/old can understand that, anyone can... just my 2 cents :thumbsup2

I completely agree with you on this.

I just saw the photo and frankly, was not bothered by it. Her shoulder and part of her back were uncovered. Heavens, no! Body parts!! What gave it the air of seductiveness was the way her makeup and hair was done, IMO. Not the fact that she was wrapped in a big sheet (not topless). A day at the beach reveals far more than that photo.

In the photos, she is not naked.
But the photo wants to make you think she is.

And thats where the problem lies.

Art is art, and I'll defend artistic nudity till the sun goes down.

But homegirl is 15. Artistic nudity should not involve children.

Great post, I feel the same way! Enjoyment of a show is fine, but why do people encourage their kids to look up to "stars" as role models? :confused3

This is yet another case of how our society is making "adults" out of young teens. I suppose the photo can be interpreted as either too seductive or tasteful and artisitic, but we're still talking about a 15-year old girl. Perhaps nobody remembers when Britney Speers was "wholesome."

Nothing goes away because it's IGNORED.
That's bull. Time and time again we've learned that if we pay attention to something, then that will foster it, not make it go away. Parents should focus on what is truly important: their children.
