MIL uses a walker, but we are renting an EVC for WDW

I have found some great info on this board and I am so excited about our upcoming trip! This will be the first time my inlaws have traveled to WDW and I am trying to get my proverbial ducks in a row before we get there so everything will go smoothly!!! This board has been great. I have a list of rides and attractions she can go on very easily and we are all looking forward to the trip. My one heartbreak is Peter Pan! That is a family favorite.

My MIL uses a walker on a daily basis. We are planning to rent an ECV from a private company for her to use at the resort (we are staying off-site) and in the parks. I have a question about her walker. I know she would prefer to use it at the condo and potentially in restaurants in the parks.

Does anyone have experience bringing their walker to the parks and then using it on occasion? She is not fast, but she likes to be independent. Is it possible to attach it to the EVC in some way so she can choose to use it?

How feasible is it to use the EVC in restaurants?

Check with the company you are renting from and see if they have a walker carrier that hooks onto the scooter for you to rent.

Most of the restaurants that I have been to with my ECV, was really almost too tight to use it in. I found parking it somewhere out of the way, and walking to the table to be best.

Excellent suggestion, I had not even thought about calling the scooter rental company.

When we go out locally, we are very selective with the restaurant. Not all of them are walker friendly! She will not be able to walk without her walker without for more than a few steps.

Again, I would agree with the off-site rental having a walker-carrying accessories. It will probably be a one-time charge of $10 (not a daily charge).

And for some restaurants she may have to park in the lobby and use the walker or other assistance. Others she might drive to the table and transfer to a chair, and someone else in your party take the ECV out to the lobby and park it there and then get it when it is time to leave.

Hi!

If you rent an ECV from Randy's Mobility (randysmobility.com), you can have a walker hanger attached at no cost for the entire length of the rental. (It has been no cost in the past. The owner might have changed that policy.) You have to request it when you make your reservation because it is a part that is welded to the bottom of the seat of the ECV. If you choose to not use the walker at any time, the walker hanger is "just there", and it does not interfere with your movement in any way.

If you should decide to do this, have the person who delivers the ECV show you exactly how to hang the walker and secure it (usually with a piece of velcro). It is not tricky, but is better to be shown how instead of trying to figure it out.

I have rented ECVs from Randy's Moblilty over the previous 5 years, and 2 years ago, I had one with a walker hanger. It made the trip much more enjoyable knowing that I would always have support of some type with me.
