My sons bride to-be is having a bridal shower that I will have to miss. I need gift ideas quick! Please help :)

No she isnt registered for shower gift.
Cash seems too impersonal to me . WDYT? :confused3

Wow, that's a tough one with so little information! LOL!

My "go-to" gift is a crockpot with all the bells and whistles (carrying handles, programmable, etc.), along with a crockpot cookbook.

No one ever thinks to register for one, but they come in so handy, especially if both the bride and groom will be working outside the home.

You could give the bulk of the gift in cash and then add a nice gift to go with it - maybe a set of candlesticks or something for the kitchen (I have no idea how much each of them have).

Without knowing you DS or future DIL, it's hard to say.

Many years ago, I ordered something like this for my now BIL and SIL. SIL is VERY hard to please and she loved it. I took it as a big compliment. 25 years later, she still has it on display in her curio cabinet. :)

(I didn't order mine from this company but from Spiegel Catalog where I was working at the time. I sent them a copy of the printed invitation and they reproduced it on the plate including the decoration(I think roses on the side of the printing) on the invitation)

:rotfl2: If I knew much about her Id tell.

I followed that link and there are lots of good ideas.

THANKS ALL!

I love the crockpot idea! My go to shower gift is a laundry basket full of laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, random household items. But, that's hard to ship!

I would call my son and bug him.;)

Agree. Find out if there is going to be any other shower you would be invited to also. I think being the groom's mother calls for a special gift. What big item do they need? I gave DD a nice digital camera, digital photo frame & lots of accessories. They needed a new camera & now they have great pics from their honeymoon & new life together.

Have they planned their honeymoon yet? Maybe a gift card or activity or something that goes towards their honeymoon.

If you have time, put together a book (or write out on cards) of your son's/family favorite recipes. Put it in a kitchen utensil or basket with some other cooking items.

Kitchenaid mixer, set of Henckels knives, luggage for the honeymoon, the list is endless. It's for your son as much as your future dil, I would give a nice gift.

I just found the perfect gift!!
THANKS FOR THE IDEA!

I'll type out the recipes and have them spiral bound.
I have a few kitchen utensils that I cant live without (well, you know what I mean) and I'll buy her some of those, and put it all together in some kind of big pasta pot or strainer.

Ok. Im excited now! :yay:

(they are getting a flat screen for their wedding gift from me, so thats the big item)

You also can't go wrong with putting a heart felt note in the card welcoming her to the family and telling her how disappointed you are to not be at the shower.

You could also add some little family stories - who the recipe came from, when it is usually served, who in the family loves it, etc. It's one way to pass along family history.

I love the idea of the cookbook with the family notations!
As you said, add a few utensils that you love to have to, tell her why you love them, a heartfelt welcome to the family and you should be good to go.

One of the ladies I work with for 3 of her daughters in law's showers put together a box with a really nice decorative piece for each of the major holidays. She would pick them up after the season for a decent price, but she included things like a glass christmas tree from Simon Pearce, Fun plates and table setting items for the 4th of July, A ceramic pumpkin that lit up.
Stuff like that.
