MIL to-be needs advice on shower gift

Agree. Find out if there is going to be any other shower you would be invited to also. I think being the groom's mother calls for a special gift. What big item do they need? I gave DD a nice digital camera, digital photo frame & lots of accessories. They needed a new camera & now they have great pics from their honeymoon & new life together.

That was what I was going to suggest, or maybe a video camera.

What I did for my first daughter-in-law and what I will do again for DS#2's fiance, I made a recipe book of all of his favorites. I used a small photo album and included my favorite photos of him growing up. I also included a springform pan for cheesecake, real vanilla and some spices.

It was the hit of the shower.

LOL, we're assuming the woman in his life is going to cook. hmmmm. I'd address the card to both of them as my dh does most of the cooking around here on a daily basis. I do the traditional, homemade stuff that takes a lot of experience or intuition but he does the everyday.

OP-is there a theme to this shower? sometimes they are 'personal', kitchen, bathroom, linen, etc.

I made the cookbook today and the cover saying "Name's welcome to the family cookbook It turned out so cute and after looking at it, I thought, WOW, I need a copy of that! Great recipes! I did hand write the first page and told her that "her husband" should do at least half of the cooking and the cleaning ;-)

Now Im headed to the store to buy everything for the "pot" basket.

This is such a greta idea!

I gave my DDIL a set of dishes that my DMIL had given me. The set was well over 50 years old and probably had no monetary value but I wanted to make sure that DDIL knew that I welcomed her by sharing a gift that my DS GM had given me. My own DMIL had waited almost 25 years to give these to me and she knew I treasured them, I asked her if she thought that we couldl pass them to Erica and she agreed. Do you have something personal that you could pass to your new DDIL that shows her that you not only accept her but that you welcome her into your family?

Yeah - I was going to say: give her a family heirloom or something that's been in the family for a while.

But, the cookbook with family recipes sounds great!

Thirty-five years later, I'm still using the colandar that a friends' Mom gave me.
