Mike & Missy Plus Six-A 9/11/11 Dream Trip Report! Update-12/08-COMPLETE!!

Great night-time and Cabanas pics!! When we went, I loved walking through Cabanas when they were "closed" and seeing how pretty it was, and getting pics in there while it was empty!

Thank you!!

I'm loving the nightime shots. It's so nice to walk around the ship when it's kind of empty. I really enjoyed walking early mornings...just me and the clean up guys!

I wish I could be an early riser!! I always have the best intentions of getting up early on our cruise vacations, but never do seem to make it happen!

looks so fun!!!

Thank you!

I'll start this update with a word of warning...because I was too lazy to take notes from each day, there are some things that I just don't remember, most of it being the times that we left for or arrived at different places. Today is definitely one of those days. I also don't have very many pics from this day, but I do have some, which is better than none!:)

We started off the morning with the alarm clock going off followed by a wake up call. The plan for the day was to meet up with DIS'er Jennifer and her family around 8:30-8:45 so that we could all disembark together. If you remember our DIS meet, Jennifer and her family had also booked a room at the Comfort Suites. And since this was our first time doing a non-Disney excursion, and their first time on a cruise, we decided to share a cab.

Mike and I finally tore ourselves from the nice comfy bed and began getting ready for the day. Dustin was still tired from being out so late, so it took a few minutes before we finally convinced him to get up!! I walked over and pulled the curtains open to find that we were pulling into Nassau:
Atlantis001.jpg

Dustin was getting himself ready and I was making sure that I had everything packed that we'd need for the day when we heard a knock at the door. It was Gayle and Brandi, who decided to stop by to say hello before we all took off for the day. They had booked the Discover Atlantis tour through Disney, so we knew we probably wouldn't see them again until dinner. Brandi was acting a little strange, but she finally told us she had something to show us, then flashed up her hand! SHE WAS FINALLY ENGAGED!!!!:woohoo: I tried to take a clear picture, but I was so excited that I was shaking a little! And I even teared up a small bit, too!!:sad1: Happy tears, of course!!
Atlantis002.jpg

Brandon had just proprosed that morning! He had told her that he wanted her to walk up to the top deck so that they could watch us pull into port, and that's when he did it!! She was just beaming and smiling from ear to ear!:lovestruc

They finally said goodbye after I'd told her congratulations a MILLION times, and we were all packed up and ready to head off the ship, but not before we met Jennifer and her fam in the atrium.

Since this was our first time doing an excursion on our own, I was a little nervous about finding a cab. Thankfully, Jennifer's husband had went to the Nassau talk the day before and they were told not to take the first cab that was offered, which is what I'd also read here on the DIS. So, we first made our way through the straw market where we found several people who were offering rides there. We found a gentleman we were comfortable with and agreed on the price. I think it was $3 per person with $1 for the toll across the bridge. We waited for a couple minutes for the driver to make his way over in the van before we boarded for our ride over. Our driver wasn't very friendly, and his driving wasn't the safest I'd ever experienced either.

Thankfully, we all arrived to the Comfort Suites in one piece and without incident! We were dropped off right at the door, so we easily made our way right inside. The lobby was nice and clean, but nothing fancy. I have no idea why I didn't think to take pictures...I think I was to worried about making sure that we had everything we needed to think about getting the camera out. There was one other couple in front of us who were doing the same thing. I was worried that when we told the clerk that we were checking in and checking out that we'd have a problem, but he knew exactly what we were talking about. I signed for the credit card charge, he gave us our receipt and the paper that we needed to obtain our wristbands, and we were on our way.

I'd read that Atlantis was a short walk over from the Comfort Suites, and that was in fact correct. Finding where we needed to go to get our wristbands was another story, but eventually we made it there after stopping to ask a couple of times.

Before we split up to go on our own adventures, we decided that we would all ride together back to the ship as well, and agreed to meet back at 2:30 to head back.

So, with wristbands in hand, or actually on wrist I should say, we made our way through the aquairum, and out to Aquaventure!!

Our first order was to find the lockers so we could stowe our junk for the day, and of course it took us a couple minutes to figure out where we needed to go. I snapped a couple shots as we wandered:
Atlantis005.jpg

Atlantis006.jpg

Atlantis011.jpg

Finally, we figured out where we needed to be, which was right under our nose to begin with! Since we had all our shoes plus our cover ups and towels, I went ahead and rented the large locker, which was $12.00. They handed me a key on a keychain that we'd have to keep up with for the rest of the day. I took a couple pics of the lockers just in case anyone else may need this info in the future. However, even though the signs show that there are 3 different sizes, there were only two that I could find.
Atlantis010.jpg

Atlantis009.jpg

Atlantis008.jpg

It's at this point that the pictures stop for a while. While the camera I had was waterproof, I wasn't sure if they would allow it on the slides, especially the body slides, so I decided to go ahead and store it in the locker to be safe.

Since I don't have pics of the slides, I'm going to borrow a few from the Atlantis website to share so that you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about.

The first place we headed was over to The Challenger slides, which are two body slides that are side by side so that you can race one another down. There's a time clock at the bottom in case you can't tell who won.
Challenger.jpg

Next, we decided to do the Serpent Slide, which I thought would be okay since it was a tube slide, even though it said part of it was in the dark which sometimes freaks me out.
SerpentSlide.jpg

This one did scare me a bit since it was a faster ride and completely dark until you come out in the tunnel where you can see the sharks. That part was neat, it was just getting to it that scared me a tad!:scared1: I definitely wasn't smiling like the two girls in the picture!!

Since I lived through the Serpent Slide, I decided I could brave the Leap of Faith, which is described as being a 60 ft. almost vertical drop. This one sends you through the clear tunnel as well, but it's so fast that you don't even have time to look! It was actually pretty fun...just fast as heck! Definitely exhilirating!
LeapofFaith.jpg

Since we'd just covered all 3 slides in the Mayan Temple, we decided to head over to the Power Tower to check out things there. This part was a little confusing as there wasn't very many signs, so it was hard to know where to go for what. Dustin found The Abyss, but when I figured out that it was in complete darkness, I quickly backed out on that one, and so did Mike. Dustin decided to go for it though, and liked it. He told me that I definitely would have been scared, so I'm glad I didn't go!

Because we were having a hard time figuring out how to get to the other 3 slides in the Power Tower, we decided to take a break and hit the lazy river for a little while. I have to say, this was not the kind of lazy river I've ever been on...it was SO much fun!! There is one section of the river that actually produces waves, so you are calmy floating along, then all of a sudden these big waves come and you ride the tops of them. I think we had more fun with that than any of the slides. They also have photographers stationed in the water who snap your picture as you float by, then put a sticker on your wristband so you can view and/or purchase them later.

Another thing we noticed as we were floating around is that there are conveyors that will actually take you straight from the lazy river up to the other three rides in the Power Tower--you don't even have to get off your tube!! So once we'd made a full lap around, we decided to take the conveyors up to the slides. Thankfully these were also tube rides, so Mike and I could ride together. There were three of them--The Drop, The Surge, and the Falls and we ended up doing all of them. They are alot like Crush N' Gusher at Typhoon Lagoon as they are actually water coasters that use the belts to pull you up a hill, then down. They were all 3 pretty much the same, but they were a lot of fun, too!

After we'd finished those 3 rides, we decided to float on around the lazy river since you actually get dumped back into it at the end of each slide, which is kind of cool. One thing I will tell you though, make sure you are holding on tight...as you get "dumped" back into the river, the water gets pretty rough. It shot me off the tube and then the tube went over me all while I was still trying to hold on...that was not fun and my shoulders really felt it!

As we were making our way to an exit from the river, I began to notice how red the tops of my legs were. I had totally lathered my face, neck, arms, shoulders and back with sunscreen, but didn't think the first thing about my legs, so I knew I was going to be in pain before long!:sad2:

We made our way out of the river and decided that it was time to mosey back to the lockers, then head for some lunch as we were all pretty starved after not having any breakfast. Since I knew that we were pretty much done for the day, we cleaned out the locker and I returned the key.

Continued in next post...

Thankfully, there was a place called Shark Bites pretty close by, so we made our way there for lunch. As we were sitting down, I noticed this sign and had to get a pic:
Atlantis012.jpg

Mike and I had a cheeseburger and fries, and I think Dustin may have had a chicken sandwich and fries.
Atlantis013.jpg

The total for all 3 of us was $32.01. We took our time and enjoyed our meals and rested for a little while. The sun had taken a lot out of us!

After we’d finished, we decided to walk around just a bit as we had a few minutes to kill before we were to meet back up with Jennifer and her family. I took a few pics as we walked. This is the top of the Leap of Faith slide:
Atlantis018.jpg

And this is the bottom…The left side is the Leap of Faith and the right is The Serpent Slide:
Atlantis017.jpg

We slowly made our way back to The Dig:

By this time, we were pretty tired and ready to head back to the ship, but we still had a few minutes to kill, so we decided to check out our pics from the Lazy River. I wish we’d thought to get one of all 3 of us instead of just Mike and I!

We headed back towards the entrance to the casino while we waited and I got these shots of Dustin:

Atlantis030.jpg

At 2:30 Jennifer found us and we made the trek back to the entrance of the resort where we were hoping to find a waiting van. As soon as we exited, there was a Disney sponsored bus who was getting ready to head back. The driver asked if we needed a ride, so we told him yes. He charged us the same price as coming over, minus the $1 for the toll. Thankfully it was a little smoother ride going back!

I was really glad that Jennifer and her family were so nice to meet up with us both going and coming as it made me feel a lot more comfortable, and I think it did for them too, as well.

We paid the driver, exited the van and made our way back towards the ship.

Tonight was the optional dress-up night, so we headed back to the room to get a little rest before getting ready for dinner.

Up next: Dress-up night in Enchanted Garden

Atlantis is so pretty! I can't wait to visit someday.

I can't believe you did the Leap of Faith! I would be way too chicken to do that! :scared1: Good for you!

Sounds like a great day at Atlantis, minus the burned legs...ouch! Hopefully you noticed in enough time to not get burned too badly. Those slides look awesome!!! And the lazy river sounds just like my cup of tea!

OOOOHHHH!!! Missy I have been anxiously waiting to hear about your Atlantis day! I'm even more excited to go now :) Everything looks so much fun. I've never heard of a lazy river like that before. I'm so sorry about your legs getting burned :( I've done that many a time at the beach. Think I've lathered up everything but something inevitably gets burned. I hope they had some aloe on the ship you could get. That's for the tip on holding onto the tube, I've already put it in my phone to remember.

That sure was an expensive lunch! I hope it was at least delicious :)

Love the second picture of Dustin on the throne. He's hamming it up!

How excited that they finally got engaged!

Congratulations to Brandi!! You called it!

I'm not a water park person but the lazy river sounds great at Atlantis! I like the idea of the conveyor belt taking you from the river to the slide! :thumbsup2

Ouch on the sunburn:headache:

It really is pretty there, and I'm glad we decided to go ahead and do the excursion there!

The Leap of Faith really wasn't that bad! It was fast, so it was over before you knew it! I'm not brave enough to try Summit Plummit at Blizzard Beach, that's for sure!!

The slides were pretty fun!! We had a ball!

The lazy river was definitely cool! We could have spent the whole day there!

I'm glad that I was able to get you more excited about Atlantis! I think you will enjoy it! Definitely make sure you're prepared for getting "dumped" back into the lazy river!

To be honest, the food really wasn't that good. I'm not an onion or tomato eater, but you couldn't order the burgers without it, so even after I took the onion off, I could still taste it a bit. It wasn't worth what we paid, but we were all hungry, so it filled up the empty spot.

Congratulations to Brandi!! You called it!

The whole conveyor belt thing was pretty smart! Whomever though of it was a genius!!

Thankfully, we made it back to the ship with plenty of time to get ready and even had a few minutes to sit down and rest as we were all pretty tired! We really enjoyed Atlantis though, and I was so glad that we decided to do it!

After kicking our feet up and watching a little TV for a few minutes, it was finally time to get ready for our "dress-up" night dinner in Enchanted Garden. I was really excited about this restaurant after reading about all the really cool features that happen at night!

We were finally dressed and on our way to dinner! I got this pic of Mike and Dustin being goofy in the elevator:

We arrived at the restaurant and were the first ones to our table again.

Nassau007.jpg

I really love all the details here!
Nassau006.jpg

Just a few minutes after we were seated, the rest of the gang arrived and we began to chat about everyone's day. It was at this time that Dustin suddenly lost his mind when he asked if I would sign a waiver for him to get off the boat by himself after dinner! Excuse me??? I told him that there was no way in the world that I would get off the boat by myself, especially after dark, so there was absolutely NO WAY that he was getting off by himself. Of course he wasn't happy with it, and I sort of lost my cool and went off on him right there at the table in front of everyone. I felt bad about it afterwards, but I couldn't believe that he would even ask that! I reminded him that I was responsible for his safety and there was no way that I was willing to risk that...as a matter of fact I wasn't going to even entertain the idea...end of conversation. He of course got mad, and probably a little embarassed that I made such a big deal about it, so he decided that he was going to sit there and pout and not order any dinner. That made me even more unhappy!:headache: I really wanted to yell at him at this point, but I held it in and just gave him "the look". I think he knew I meant I was serious at that point so he didn't say another word. Of course when it came time to place our orders and Dustin told them that he didn't want anything to eat, that made it even more awkward as the servers were asking what was wrong!!

I decided to let him sit there and pout and that if he was going to be too stubborn to eat then that was his fault...I wasn't going to beg him!

Soon enough our food started coming, and I think he realized at this point that I wasn't going to baby him, so he finally decided to order something. Mike had the Ahi Tuna and Advacado Tower:
Nassau009.jpg

And I had the North Atlantic Lobster Ravioli:
Nassau008.jpg

I didn't even take pictures of what Dustin had. I was so sad and embarrassed at this point that I no longer cared about dinner. :sad2: I was sad that I let him get the best of me instead of remaining calm. We'd had a great day together and this wasn't how I envisioned the day ending. Not to mention, I so wanted this to be a perfect trip for him, and this is not what I imagined happening--now we weren't even speaking to each other. I really wanted to just go back to the room and cry at this point.:sad1:
Neither of us wanted soup or salad, so next came the main course which was Roasted Pork Tenderloin for Mike:
Nassau012.jpg

And Grilled NY Strip for myself:
Nassau011.jpg

There wasn't much talking going on now, so we ordered dessert in hopes of getting out of there as fast as we could. Mike had the Banana Foster Sundae:
Nassau014.jpg

And I had a Mickey bar since there was nothing else on the menu that appealed to me:
Nassau013.jpg

Thankfully, by the time dinner was over I had calmed down, even though I still felt terrible, and I think Dustin was over his mad spell.

Since I remembered they were doing the Lifestyle shots in the atrium tonight and we were all dressed up, Mike and I decided to go get in line. Dustin headed off with the other Dustin and I'm not sure what the rest of the gang decided to do.

It was as we were posing for our pictures that I realized just how burnt my legs had gotten. The photographer had us sitting and kneeling a lot and it was not fun!! We did manage to get a few good shots though, and ended up bringing this one home with us:
ProfPic.jpg

Once we were done there, we decided to head back to the room to change into something a little more comfy. We found this waiting for us when we got there:
Nassau023.jpg

Thankfully I'd brought a pair of really soft cotton bermuda shorts that I put on without it hurting too bad.

After we'd gotten changed, I asked Mike if he wanted to go play the Midship Detective Agency game with me, and he agreed, so we headed down to deck 5 midship to get started.
Nassau022.jpg

This turned out to be a really fun game that I'm glad we took the time to do. I like that fact that it takes you from one end of the ship to the other and covers a ton of decks!

By the time we'd solved the case, my legs were definitely hurting, and on top of that I was still feeling pretty bad about what happened at dinner, so we decided to head back to the room. I took a couple Advil in hopes that it would help ease the pain, then decided to lay down on the bed. Since we were still in port, none of the shops were open, so Mike called Guest Services to ask if they had anything that I could put on the burn, and luckily they had a bottle of Solarcaine aloe. It was their last one, so Mike ran down and bought it for me. He made it back in record time and I applied as much as I could. Usually I don't feel like aloe ever helps me, but this really did. As soon as I put it on I could feel it cooling down. Mike laid down with me and we turned the TV on. It wasn't long before I was sound asleep, and Mike followed suit soon after. Dustin came in a little later, but not nearly as late as the night before. I think he had gotten a little too much sun on his shoulders and back, so he slathered up with some aloe before he hit the hay as well.

Tomorrow's plan called for Castaway Bottom Fishing, but with the way we were all feeling, I wasn't sure that being on the water in the sun was such a great idea.

Next up: Enjoying Castaway in a different way!

Oh gosh. I'm so sorry your day ended on a low note. Thank goodness GS still had a bottle of aloe available, and I'm glad you were able to soothe the pain in your legs a bit. Hoping your CC day is much better. :grouphug:

Oh no, I'm so sorry there was uncomfortable drama at dinner. Especially after such a nice day. That silly Dustin, it is not safe in a foreign country after dark :sad2: I hope it was better in the morning.

I'm so glad Mike was able to get you some aloe!

I'm so sorry to hear about the drama at dinner. I hope things turned around and Dustin appreciated this trip.

I make sure to always bring aloe with us when we travel. Being a fair-skinned redhead myself, I've had my fair share of sunburns on vacation :headache:.

I hope Castaway Cay goes well! :goodvibes

I just stumbled across this. I can't believe I missed it, since I've read all your prior reports.

I am going to the beginning to read the whole thing from start to finish right now.

O.K., I am now all caught up!

World of Disney - It's my favorite store too. My MIL used to work there! It was great...not only did we get into the parks free, but I was able to use her employee discount to buy stuff. Unfortunately, the woman had the audacity to retire, of all things, and now I have to painfully pay full price like everyone else! The humanity!!!

Mike - So glad the staph infection turned out to be just that and nothing else. Although, the staph infection itself is an awful thing. My Mom was hospitalized last year and contracted a staph infection on her leg. She ended up having to have a large section of her calf removed and needed plastic surgery after....scary stuff.

Sadie - so sad to hear about this. What a terrible, unexpected loss. I think I remember you mentioning her in prior trip reports. I completely get the loss you feel. I've lost two pets in the past and I'm not sure how I would handle it if anything happened to our dog, Brennan or our cat, Pixie.

Brandi - Engaged...how exciting! And what a Dreamy way to do it! (Cheesy pun completely intended!) :thumbsup2

Dustin #1 - First, I think it's a riot that you have Dustins Squared on this trip! Second, you shouldn't feel too bad about your reaction to his request to get off the ship alone. He shouldn't have even asked. And his reaction was typical teenager. I hope he got over as quickly as it started and didn't sink into moody teenager land for the rest of the trip.

Looking forward to reading the rest!

What a fun day at Atlantis. I am not a waterslide person, but I do want to explore there again. My DH and I took the Aquarium tour several years back and really liked it and there is so much mroe there now.

How late was the ship in port there that day? Was it there later for a special reason?

Yes, silly is a good word to describe his thinking!!

Maybe I need to take yet another tip from you and always pack aloe from now on!! I guess I never intended to get burnt...which I don't guess anyone does!

Wow, I can't believe the nerve of your MIL...making you pay full price for Disney! How dare she!:lmao: I'm sure that was really nice while it lasted though!

How scary for your Mom! I've heard about Staph, before, but never knew what it looked like or even known anyone with it until now. Thankfully Mike's arm is just about completely healed...looking at it now, you'd never know!

Thank you for the sweet words about Sadie. I miss her so.

Yes, I think you are right on with Dustin's behavior being typical teenager. Well that and the fact that he's never been anywhere like that, so I guess he wasn't really as aware of the dangers as the rest of us.

What a fun day at Atlantis. I am not a waterslide person, but I do want to explore there again. My DH and I took the Aquarium tour several years back and really liked it and there is so much mroe there now.

Atlantis is a neat place. I know the rest of the gang really enjoyed their time there, and I think Dustin #2 and Allen spent some time in the casino.

If I remember correctly, we were docked in Nassau until 2 a.m. I don't remember the reason, if there was one, but on our cruise last year we were docked until late. I'm not sure--but I think they may have been giving the crew the opportunity to get off the ship if they wanted.

Loving the TR! Atlantis sounds like a lot of fun

When I awoke this morning, the first thing I did was reach for the aloe. Surprisingly, I'd slept pretty well even though I didn't think I would. Since our excursion for the day wasn't scheduled until late afternoon, we were able to sleep in a little, which was really nice. Originally, the plan had been that we'd wait for the main rush to disembark before we headed up for some breakfast, then head off to enjoy the island before we were to go fishing. However, the more I thought about it, the more I wondered if we should just cancel our plans for the day since we'd all had a little too much sun. Dustin wouldn't admit it, but his shoulders and back had gotten burnt the day before as well. Of course the reason he wouldn't admit it is because he'd told me he didn't need any sunscreen after I'd begged him to put some on, but it was obvious that he was hurting as he was lathering up with the aloe as much as I was.

Eventually, Mike and I both decided to pull ourselves out of bed and showered. The cool water in the shower really felt nice and soothing on my legs. Dustin was still tired, so we headed on up to Cabanas without him.

We'd gotten our food and were sitting down eating when Dustin decided to join us. I could tell that he really wasn't feeling that great, but I didn't tell him that Mike and I had already talked about cancelling the excursion. I was afraid that he's be disappointed since he was the one who picked it out. Not to mention, I wasn't sure if we'd be able to get our money back since it was the day of.

After we'd enjoyed our breakfast, Dustin decided to head back to the room while Mike and I walked around the upper decks to take in the views of the island.

We noticed that they were testing out the lifeboats, so we watched that for a few minutes.
CastawayCay009.jpg

Some of the crew were pressure washing the side of the ship and we were getting sprayed with water, so we decided to head over to the seating outside Cove Cafe to try and figure out what exactly we wanted to do today. The longer Mike and I talked about it, the more we leaned toward cancelling our plans and staying on the ship. I though, was still worried that Dustin would be sad, so Mike decided to head back down to the room and talk to him about it. He told me he's only be a few minutes, so I decided to wait for him there. It seemed like I'd been sitting there for at least an hour (I'm sure it was only minutes in reality), when I gave up on him coming back, so I decided to head back to the room to see if I could find him there. Of course I didn't have my key, so I had to bang on the door a few times before Dustin let me in. He'd been laying down napping and I'd waken him up. I asked if he'd seen Mike and he told me that he'd went down to the Shore Excursion desk to cancel our fishing. Dustin had agreed that he really didn't want to get off the boat, or be out in the sun, so I felt a little relieved about that. So, while I waited for Mike I hung out in the room with Dustin and we watched a little TV.

Eventually, Mike came back and told me that they had actually sent him to Medical to have his sunburn looked at. The person he talked to there told him that he didn't need to be out in the sun at all, so he signed a form that would allow us to receive our money back. That was another sigh of relief. I know Disney certainly didn't have to do that for us, so we were very thankful. At this point, Dustin decided that he wanted to hang out in the room, and we decided that were going to do some more ship exploring. But first we stopped for a quick bite of lunch. Mike had the chicken strips:

And I decided to go with the very yummy pizza:

I sure do wish I could have a few slices of that right now!!

After our quick, but yummy lunch, we decided to head up and check out the Palo/Remy areas since we were scheduled for brunch at Palo the next day. I was a little apprehensive about looking around up there since we were dressed so casual, but there was hardly anyone around and no one asked what we were doing, so I snapped a few pics of what we saw. I have to say that I was very impressed!

I had to check out the restroom up there as well and was blown away again!

Everything was so gorgeous! I was glad that we decided to check it out and was even more excited about our brunch the next day!

Once we'd taken in all the sights, we decided that it would probably be a good time to wash a few clothes since the ship was mostly empty. So, we headed back to the room to collect what we needed to wash and found the closest laundry room. We knew there was one on our deck, but after we asked our stateroom host where the closest one was, he directed us down one deck. The one there was also forward, so we didn't have to walk all the way to the back of the ship like we would've if we'd used the one on our deck. It was much easier.

The laundry rooms on the dream are pretty much the same as the Magic and Wonder as far as how you use the washers and dryers. They had the same vending for the detergent and such as well. The only change I noticed is that there were more machines and instead of just one ironing board, there was actually 3 or 4.

After we finished the laundry, which took about 45 minutes for each cycle, we headed back to the room to put up the clean clothes and get ready for dinner. While I was sad that we missed a day on the island, I really enjoyed such a relaxing day onboard. It really felt like an at sea day, and really those are my favorite days of all. Dustin enjoyed relaxing in the room and having some peace and quiet which he doesn't always get at home.

Up next: Pirate Night!
