I'm on day 11 of a migraine. Some days are worse than others. I can function for the most part, but I've been taking extra naps etc. and a few days I've been incapacitated. I'm taking Imitrex and just finished 6 days of steroids which will sometimes knock a long one out. Not this time. The doctor can't get me in until the end of February. They're going to call me if they get a cancellation.

I'm open for suggestions. I've tried all the usuals.

Updated Day 13...

I went to the ER today and got three shots. It worked for a while, but I think it's coming back. I'm going to get my Percocet Rx filled and see if that helps more...

Have you tried Chiropractic care? Works wonders for me.

Otherwise, :grouphug: to you!! You must be having a rough time.

I haven't tried chiropactic, but I did get an extra massage last week. Part of the problem is muscular, and the massage helped briefly...but it didn't last. I'm getting my regularly scheduled massage this week.

Is it typical for migraines to last that long? I have two friends that suffer from migraines and they look really bad when they have them, I can't imagine how they really feel. :(

That's a long time to wait to see the doctor, I hope you can get in real soon. Feel better! pixiedust:

Oh, poor you ... the longest I had one was two days ... I can't imagine 11 :scared1:

Hope you feel better soon. pixiedust:

One thing more about chiropractic care (I swear I am not a doctor) is that your muscles are deeply effected by the bones too. So sometimes it seems to be muscles and it is because the bones, joints, etc. are pulling on them. Not saying this is it but just a food for thought.

OMG, I get migranes but can't imagine one lasting 11 days. I take Zomig which has worked wonders for me. I can't believe your doctor can't fit you in for another month. What do they do for emergency patients because I can't imagine a much better candidate than you. As far as Chripractic care I know a few people who swear by it although I've never tried it. I think in your situation I'd try almost anything. Good luck. Once thing that does help me while I wait for medication to take effect is to put some Vicks vapor cream on my temples and have a cup of tea. The menthol and the tea help with the queaziness and pressure.

I don't have any real suggestions, I just want to send good thoughts your way. I know just what your going through. Before I started Imitex my longest one was 14 days, and I finally went to the ER because I was so sleep deprived and dehydrated that I passed out. They gave me a morphin drip for 4 hours and it was heaven. I slept for a good 20 hours. If your DR can't see you until the end of Feb. I would suggest going to the ER. I'm not sure if they can do the same for you, but there has to be something. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

the end of February ???!!!!

I'd find a new DR., that's crazy

another vote for Chiropractic care. Both DD and I had migraines and it has helped us both. I have been going for care once a month for 14 years!!! :thumbsup2

I second the ER suggestion - they can put magical drugs in your IV to make the pain finally go away. You should also have an MRI to rule out anything sinister causing this one to be so bad - tumor, aneurysm, etc...

It does sound like that you are on some sort of constant rebound headache though and you may just need the extra boost from the ER to kick it out.

I love my Neurologist but if I had an 11 day migraine and he told me he couldn't see me for 6 weeks then I would SO find another doctor! That is absurd!!

Wow, 11 days is a REALLY long time to be in that much pain. I agree w/ the other posters who suggested the ER.
Does Imitrix usually work ffor you? Perhaps your Dr. can call in a RX for a different medication?
I'm sorry you're in pain.

Barb, My migraines go hand in hand with sinus trouble. Try taking a claritan once a day for a couple of days and see if that helps! I feel for ya kid!

TC :cool1:

OMG 11 days! I get migraines that usually last two days and I can just about handled that. I would go to the ER and then find another doctor.

if your traditional meds are not working and it's been going on this long i would strongly suggest going to the e/r. i am one of the rare ones who had a stroke related to a migrane. it started out and just hung on until i awoke one morning having suffered a stroke.

anytime a migrane exhibits new signs to you (and being much longer in duration than normal is a new sign) immediate medical attention should be sought.

after going through a second long one (and a second stroke) my md and neurologist prescribed morphene suppositories i keep at home so that i can administer them days earlier and stop the cycle.

I "rested" with ice packs for a while today. The pain is not bad enough IMHO to go to the ER. I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow and beg them to get me in.

I was watching E! yesterday and the red head from Desperate Housewives said she had migraines for awhile and she says what helps her is staying away from chocolate, red wine, and something else... perhaps your migraines are triggered by a certain food consumption????
