I know there are no microwaves in the Pop rooms; however, I need one to heat up a prescription medication that I use every morning. If I brought one, would I get in trouble...even if I tell them at the front desk it's for medical reasons (maybe leave a note on it in the room)? It's not reasonable to walk to food court to heat my meds up and walk back first thing every morning. I've heard that they let you have a frig for baby formula so I don't really see the difference.

Disney will proved a fridge for medical reasons. I'm not sure if they will provide a microwave. Why don't you just write and ask them, that way you can be sure, and not just listen to us all guessing.:)

I wouldn't just bring one and hope to not get into trouble. Why do you think it is not reasonable to expect you to walk to the food court? You can always tell them at check in that you need to be as close as possible to the food court, and tell them why. It may be a little inconvenient to walk to the food court, but if they tell you no to a microwave in your room that may end up being your only option.

I know you can rent 1 from a service they rent fridges micro and baby stuff like strollers and cribs do a search for micro rentals..or ask to be right next to the food court, maybe,, some people run to walmart and get a cheopo 80$ one ...

I'll make the special request. Going to the food court first thing in the a.m. means getting totally showered and dressed and going there. My meds would probably be cooled off before I got back and that turns a relaxing a.m. into something hectic everyday.

Waaay off topic, but do you love your Titanium?
We have a Montana and DH has looked at the Titaniums a few times for ease of towing.

FYI-

I was told by Special requests that they would not provide Microwaves at the value resorts. I was told to use the one in the food court. (which is not an option for me either). Even speaking with a "coordinator" in the special requests area and explaining the medical need did not help-he flatly refused. When I brought up that fact that a Microwave was listed on their form is he said "just because it is on there doesn't mean we can provide it". I had to cancel my reservation.

OP-I hope you have better luck that I did.

Would it be possible for you to change your resort? It would be a lot of space and about double the cost, but the All Star Family Suite have microwaves in them. And I am pretty sure they have them in all the DVC rooms. You could probably rent points for a studio villa fairly cheaply.

Why not bring your own and just cover it up with a suitcase or bag?

There are really small microwaves available which are pretty cheap. Best Buy has one for $39.99 which measures only about 11" X 18". It's only .7cu. ft but for your meds and stuff like popcorn it would be fine. This size would easily fit in a small suitcase so there would be no way resort staff would know you had one unless they're rummaging through your luggage.

We plan to do this on our next trip just for popcorn and reheating leftovers.

Do you not think that if Disney wanted you to have a microwave in your room, that they would provide it? And do you not think that your neighbors may take offense at your cooking smells and report you? Are you prepared to either have to throw out the microwave or leave the resort if that happens? Not to mention, part of the policy of this board is to not give out info on how to get around Disney's rules.

I would call CRO and explain what the situation is. Ask them if you can provide your own microwave and have it in the room. If it is not allowed, ask if there is another device that will allow you to heat whatever is needed to take your meds that you would be allowed to have in the room. Ask your Dr if they have a suggestion as to another way to heat your meds because you will not have convenient access to a microwave if you can't have one in the room. If Disney says you can have a microwave, bring your own or rent one from a company. :wizard:

Perhaps there's another type of heating device that would work? We have a very small cooler/heater. It holds the equivalent of 1 six-pack of cans and it has a power adaptor for the car. You either set it to keep things cool or warm (like for bringing home take-out). It may take longer to warm the meds but would probably work. It does get pretty warm inside. My husband got ours in a gift exchange at work but I have seen them at Target.

That's what I would do. OP,don't listen to the naysayers!

Doing this is a fire hazard and a risk to other hotel patrons. Special plugs are needed for microwaves as they require more voltage and cause higher electrical currents. What happens if you blow a fuse?

If it is so important for you to have a microwave, bug disney about it until they give you one or suck it up and walk to the food court, or book a moderate hotel, where it is easy to obtain a microwave. Not everyone can stay in a value when they have special needs.

Hotel rooms are only secured fore light electric gear.

I agree with both of these posts. If a microwave is not allowed for safety purposes, how does medical necessity make it less dangerous? I am sympathetic with the OP, but I am the first one up in the morning in my room, and I always walk to the food court for coffee before showering etc. Who is going to notice?:confused3

ETA: I never had one of these, but don't they make plug in bottle warmers for baby bottles? Maybe that could work. I would not bring a cooking device, it is dangerous and how would you feel if you set the place on fire?

I stay at Pop and get a microwave every stay, also for medical reasons. You have to fax over or call the front end manager who will note your reservation. You will not get help from the medical needs dept., they have information that states there are no microwaves, but there are. When you go to check-in you will also need to ask for a manager on duty as the actual CM's are not all aware of this policy.

And I have never had a problem with an electrical overload or anything and I use the microwave at least 5-6 times per night at 1-1 1/2 minutes per cycle.

So how do you get ahold of the front end manager? When you call your call just goes to a call center, and not the resort itself.

See, it is this whole one CM tells you one thing and a different CM tells you another that is so darn frustrating!

And this must be case by case. We had a front end manager at Pop last year INSIST they did not have to honor medical requests and this was face to face. Calling Disney only gets you to a call center, even when calling from your hotel room.

.

My microwave plugs into a regular outlet, no special electical current needed?? the only appliance I have ever heard of needing more power is an electric stove. If you can't get one from guest services they make travel dorm size microwaves, they are being sold right now for the college crew, or you could look for the microwave swaps on Dis and see if one is available for when you are traveling.
