Microhood Combo

Does anyone have one and would you recommend it to someone?

We will be going to Sears after dinner tomorrow to purchase a new stove and I was thinking about getting a Microhood Combo also.

We love ours. But if you're planning to move in the near future, hang on to your old microwave! We made the mistake of giving our old microwave away, then moving to a house without a microhood.
We bought our first one about 8 years ago, and our second about 3 years ago. They have come down a lot in price, and I think it is a nice, clean look.

Thank you and nope no moving, we just purchased this house 4 years ago in June. I believe the appliances are original and the house is 15 years old. Time for new everything, slowly but surly.

I had one in my last house too and I loved it. My only complaint was that it was up too high for me because I am short.....

We have one. I like it.

Actually, we bought it at Sears. The motor on the turntable broke a few months ago & Sears wanted $140 for the part to fix it. We bought the part off the internet for $30. I'm not really a fan of Sears.

I don't like mine at all, but I am firmly convinced that it just doesn't work right. The vent sounds really loud, but it doesn't seem like it draws very well at all. I've had the technicians out 3 different times, and they say it's fine. I'd buy another, but I wouldn't get a GE again.

I love mine

My mom and MIL have them as well. MILs is 12 years old and she's had no problems with it.

I like having the extra counter space and for me the height was a plus, as it keeps the kids from being able to get to it.

LucyStorm, that is the one thing I am worried about. I am only 5' 2"

pospisil, I would get the Kenmore as that is what all my appliances are.

My MIL is 5'2" and she doesn't have any trouble reaching hers. See if they have some demos in the store you can "play with"

ETA - my DD10 is 4'9" and I let her use it with my supervision - she doesn't have trouble reaching it either.

We have a microhood, I love it because it saves space. When I was researching my kitchen remodel, these were the disadvantages some people found with the microhood: the venting fan is not super powerful so if you have a pro-style range or do a lot of high-heat cooking (like wok cooking) it may not be strong enough; some people don't like lifting hot items down from the height of the microhood; also if you want the kids to be able to use it, they may not be able to reach it easily.
After looking into it, we bought a Kenmore and as I said we're happy with it.

Keep in mind you can't just take down a regular range hood and replace it w/ a microwave/hood combo. A co-worker checked on doing that, and with the extra wiring, etc that had to be done, it was going to cost her $700!

I've got a KENMORE. Good, but a major PIA to install/hang. Also make sure to verify whether or not it's a full vent or a filter.

I have been in the science field too long, I thought this was something entirely different

I'm used to mine, but it does make me sort of nervous when taking a large, hot dish out that it could tip and spill all over the front of me or that I'll drop it on the smooth top range and damage that.

I hate mine. There is not enough space to cook with my big pots.
It never bothered me in the prior house....not sure why this one bugs me.
I just don't like them anymore.

This must depend on the house. We bought ours at either Sears or Lowes and brought it home and my husband put it in. No problems.
