Holly cow is that thing freaky!! Even DH was freaked and he loves scarey rides. DD3, DH and I decided to try out the swinging one again my better decision, and as soon as we took off that first dip I felt like we were going to fall out of our seats, no, more like fly out of our seats, I can't believe there isn't some type of restraint or something to at least hold on too. The back and forth rocking afterwards wow! DD3 absolutely loved it and was the only one not freaked out she was laughing like crazy, while I was screaming like crazy. I almost had the CM let me off when we made our final loading rotation before the once around but I decided to be brave. I can see why you only go around once, if you went more it would never stop swaying and would get more intense.

When we got off we were laughing at that crazy ride saying get me off this thing and the CM's on both sides laughed and said they've never ridden it and won't. That was funny

Now I know why many of you call it the Mickey Wheel of Death

haha! I felt the same way when I first rode it....wasn't expecting that at all!
now i love it :)

Yep, that's what I call it. I will usually sit on the benches overlooking the lake while the kids go. Dh has drug me on a few times and I clench the seat the whole time. I will go with him on the non swinging one. Now, put me on Tower, Screamin...any ride at Magic Mtn and I'm fine but that darn Wheel...:scared1:

La la la, such a pretty view...hey...what the heck?! AHHH! :scared1:

I LOVE thrill rides, but our family still laughs about my reaction to this one.
It felt like you were in a runaway car, going over a cliff! I grabbed at the wet (raining) seat and squeaked out the word: "Terror!".
My dd(8 at the time) thought that was the funniest thing she had ever heard and still quotes me.

I know exactly what you mean. I love all rides - thrill rides especially. But I still remember going on that wheel several years ago and being so scared! :confused3

My kids were about 8 and 10 at the time, and thought it was really strange that I disliked the ride so much. I do not plan to give it a second chance.

I've heard that about the ride! I've never been on it but people keep warning me that its pretty scary. It looks so nice and friendly from the pictures...

We refuse to ride on the moving gondolas and only get in line for the normal ones. I couldn't believe how much they moved, and DH got freaked out just watching them, lol.

We actually had to wait longer to get on because someone threw up on the moving ones right before we were supposed to load, so they had to come out and clean the gondolas, then take it around a few times to dry. I almost got out of line after that, because the way they are set up, the people in the stationary gondolas below got thrown up onto...and I didn't want to be that person....blech.

I am FINALLY able to go on this ride (after being dragged on it about 10 times by various family and friends) without completely freaking out! Like all the other posters, I'm not afraid of anything else--love thrill rides--and I actually thought this ride looked REALLY fun when I first saw the plans for it.

I think if they were to put a pull-down safety bar on the seats (like what they have on all the Fantasyland dark rides), it would make a HUGE difference. At least then you'd have something to hold onto, instead of frantically clutching the cage on the sides! :rotfl2:

The view is really nice, though.

We call this Mickey's "Not So" Fun Wheel. Never again in the swinging cars! And honestly, the stationary ones look kind of boring except for a good view.

I get freaked out enough on the non-swinging ones and do not ever plan on riding the swinging one...it looks too terrifying! :scared1:

I thought I would hate this ride, the swinging cars looked like they would be too unstable for my tastes. But I had to do this ride when my son and I decided to do everything, and I had a blast. :thumbsup2

I had not thought about it before that, but the swinging cars don't go clear to the top, in fact they barely gets above the middle of the wheel. For people who have a fear of heights this is a plus to the swinging cars. And the swinging is not that bad, especially on the first go round, when they stop the wheel to load.

Just my opinion, but I prefer the swinging cars to the fixed ones.

No, I do not ride in those horrible swinging cars of death. I will however ride a stationary car and the whole time I'm clinging for dear life to the grate. Or squeezing my eyes closed until DBF says we are all the way around. lol The girls love the swinging cars so they ride those while we ride a stationary car. When we ride, most times we just let them do it and we find a nice bench on the pier. :)

We just got back from a trip to Disneyland and my wife and I rode this with my 4 year old son (the 9 year old refused to get on so he stayed with the in-laws).

Now - I like roller coasters. I like Tower of Terror.

I FREAKED when I got in this bucket 'o death to find no seatbelts. And I was white knuckle holding onto the bench the whole loop - ESPECIALLY when we finally hit a point where we really rolled down and started swinging - it felt like I was in free fall when that swing went forward pushing me back against the bench.

Course my wife and 4 year old - laughing the whole time....

Told my wife to take a picture of me up there cause odds are next time I'll be hanging out with the 9 year old!

lol.

So here's the photo diary of this experience...

Starting to realize this isn't what I thought it would be....

The eyes say what I'm really feeling here (the 4 year old? no problems there....)

My wife got a real kick out of my discomfort...

We love this ride, makes me laugh which is sometimes hard to do.

djmeen, those are great pictures documenting your experience on Mickey's wheel of death!

I can't say that I love the swinging gondolas, they are pretty scary, but I wouldn't be completely against going on them again sometime if someone else wanted to. It wouldn't be my idea though. Now, TOT on the other hand, I went on it once (at WDW - before the one at DCA was built) and never again! Although DH tells me the one at DLR isn't as scary as the one at WDW.

Going to DL for first time in 8 years and have never been to DCA but after seeing Adults, children and teenage boys screaming in utter terror on youtube you couldn't pay me to get on this thing. I love thrill rides worked at Magic Mountain in high school rode roller coasters daily but this thing looks horrible. Plus I can blame it on the DS6 this time as he hated the ferris wheel at the county fair and has no desire to go on another even a tame one certainly not this one, he is however looking forward to California Screamin he hit 48" tall a couple weeks ago and was overjoyed since he has been "trying to grow mom" so he could ride it.

LOL...I'm so glad to read this thread and realize I'm not alone. My 9 yo and my dh have been teasing me ever since I refused to get on the 'fun wheel of death'. I was going to fake it and go on, as long as it was a non-swinging gondola, but at the last minute my 5 yo decided she didn't want to go, so I had no choice of course, but to be the good mommy and stay with her. She's been my favourite ever since :rotfl2:

DH and my 9 yo went on and had a blast. My nerves had enough trouble just standing watching them

Thank GOSH that Im not the only one!! This ride FREAKED me out!!! :scared1: I thought it would be fun, so Im the one that decided to go on the moving ones. The kids could have cared less. So we start moving and the first time it swung, we all screamed...including DH!!! This ride is crazy! Nothing to hold on to...no seat belts...geeze! I will never ever ever ever go on this again! I LOVE ToT!! My daughter and I went on that 4 times!! But never this crazy ride again!! To make things worse, we got stopped at the top, while they cleaned up puke on the bottom..yuck! Love how they give you puke bags......ugh....

Glad im NOT alone in this lol
