Has anybody ever gone to this event? Is it similair to MNSSHP?
Also do they let you in early ? I know at WDW they have let us in as early as 4:00 p.m for MNSSHP. TIA!

I've never been to the one in WDW (too many letters, sorry!)
You don't get in early at DCA, they close the park early and empty it, so only ticketed guests will be allowed back into the park. I prefer that to the way it is handled in Florida.
As for the event itself, there are trick-or-treat staions all over the park, as well as Trick or treat trails, which are several treat stations in a row, so they load up your bag. The characters are out in costume, and most of the rrides are going with no lines. There are also several dance party areas, and awesome Halloween decorations. The last year we went, they had a "cavelcade" go twice, basically a very short parade. It is alot of fun!

We went last year and had tons of fun. The lines for candy weren't bad, but the lines for characters were awful. It was unfortunate, since we didn't do any rides at all actually, we were there only for the fun Halloween stuff that we knew we couldn't do during normal park hours.

I was really wishing we could go again this year, but hubby has no time off in October. Bummer.

We have tickets for the party on October 2.
How long before the start time should we arrive? I am wondering how long the queues might be?
Do you have to say or do anything when you get to the front of the line at the treat stations? Or do you just collect some sweets and move on?
Of the characters we are likely to see, which ones are regarded as not to be missed? Or will we be able to tell from the queues lining up to see them?
Do the characters sign autograph books, pose for photos, or is it just a quick hello and off you go?
If these questions are pretty basic, it is because Halloween is not a big thing in this part of the world.
We are looking forward to being surprised, but don't want to be like fish out of water.

The years that we have gone, we alwyas get stuck in traffic, but the reports I read online said about 30 minutes prior and the line shouldn't be too long. Be advised, if you are going on the first night, you will probably expect longer lines, as alot of people want to be at the first, so they can post their pictures online from opening night!
At the candy stations, you can say "trick or treat" or just hold your bag up, they know what to do!
The characters do autographs, pictures, the usual. It is very cute, as most of the characters will be in a costume as well. The longest line we saw was for the Villians, they had a whole crowd of them together.
Just curious, what part of the world are you visiting from?

New Zealand, actually. We are generally known as Kiwis, named for the bird, not the fruit. We used to know the fruit as the Chinese Gooseberry, but the name was changed when it became an exportable product. The bird is not all that exciting either, its main claim to fame is that it lays an egg that is around a quarter of its body weight.
Thanks for answering my questions, much appreciated.

We are going to the ToT on Halloween night and I was wondering if anyone knew if that was any busier than any of the other nights? I was wondering what kind of wait times you really have on those nights? I know someone said hardly any wait but does that mean 5, 10, 20 minutes and is that how the whole night is or are the rides hit and miss with people? Sorry for more questions but we have never been at this time of year so I have no idea what to expect. Also is the candy anything special? Anything from Disneyland itself or is it just regular Halloween candy?? Are there a lot of characters in the park at once or do they come and go just like usual?

Thanks again for any info you have.

We were there last year on Oct 31st. The treat lines started out long but then cleared out and were usually empty after the first hour or so. Wait times were between 10-25 minutes depending on which ride. The candy is actual the "good" stuff (name brand candy bars) with raisins and apples for healthy treats. We ate quite a bit for the days after the party, eliminated the apples and only packed the rest of the candy in one suitcase and when we checked in at the airport that suitcase was 48 pounds!!!

One more thing about the TOT party -its the only time that teens and adults can wear a costume in a park!
