Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Central!

We are going to "the world" in October and I'm interested and confused about MNSSHP. The rides are not opened, right? Just trick or treating around MK? What else is there to do there? Don't get me wrong, I want to go, just don't know what to expect. I don't think I could convince my DH to get into a costume. Are they normally Disney character costumes? Sorry for the questions, I'm just out of the loop.

Thanks for all your help.

TTFN,
Maria

:earsboy:WELCOME to the DIS all the newbies on this thread!:earsboy:

Well I finally have some answers to some previous post!

1. Do resort boats run after MNSSHP?

Yes for 45 min.after the party ends.

2.How early can you get into MK with JUST a MNSSHP ticket?
6pm

3.How early can I make a PS for CP or LTT in the MK the night of MNSSHP and get in with just a MNSSHP ticket?
PS are 5pm to 8:45pm the party night.

rvkids...I'd go with the first idea...you'll have time to get checked in then make it to the MK for MNSSHP.

lissawynn...traditionally my family doesn't do the MK on the day we go to MNSSHP.Do spend sometime during your trip to WDW at the MK during the day. It's a different exprience in the day than the night!

Will it be too much MK in one day?
Well that depends on you and what rides you like to do! :)

Do not miss rides...Haunted Mansion is what we head for first! Take a ride on the Riverboat as there's a special Halloween cruise.Watch the Halloween themed parade.About 10 mins. prior to the parade the Headless Horseman makes his way down the parade route...this is really cool! Watch the fireworks ...try to get a good view of the "special guest" that flys from Cinderellas Castle right before the fireworks. The bridge to Tomorrowland is a great spot.BTTM and SplMT are great at night too.

Marie if you look at the beginning of this thread on Page 1 you'll find answers to your questions.Just follow this link: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=373897

Here's the list again of what is OPEN during MNSSHP.

Pirates of the Caribbean
Jungle Cruise
Big Thunder
Country Bears
Shootin Arcade
Splash Mt
Haunted Mansion
Riverboat
Carrousel
Dumbo
Small World
Mad Tea Party
Peter Pan
Snow White
Pooh ride
Astro Oribitor
Tomorrowland Speedway
Space Mt
Tomorrowland arcade
Buzz Lightyear
Alien Encounter

Plus numerous eating and shopping places.

You don't have to wear a costume to enjoy the party,in fact there are more people NOT in costume than wearing them! :) There are LOADS of Disney characters out that night and some even wear Halloween costumes themselves.

A few don't miss:
1. the parade
2. the foreworks
3. haunted mansion, It may be just me, but I think it's spookier at night.
4. Liberty Tree tavern: we love to go there to start off the night. 5 characters are in costume and you get dinner before the big trick or treat.

I would recommend hitting a different park during the day and then enter about 4. At least in the past two years, we have been able to get in around 4. that way you don't waste a day ticket depending on the type of ticket you purchased.

Thanks to Baloo and bkline for the helpful hints!

Baloo...DH and I did the MK on our honeymoon in 9/02, and I've been there several times before. I'm trying to plan our trip and was wondering about the pros and cons of staying in the MK for most of the day (with a nap sometime in the afternoon). I'm beginning to think that wasn't such a great idea. I guess it's back to the planning...
Is there another park you'd suggest doing on the day we're going to MNSSHP? (10/30)

I left off the f. Shame on me for not checking my spelling. Thanks to whoever invented the edit button.
If I we going to do another park, I would pick the one I lwanted to see the most. My favorite after MK is AK. I don't think there is much strategy involved unless you stay on site, then I recommend the park that opens early.

You absolutely must catch the Headless Horseman's Ride!! It's awesome. We've been going to MNSSHP for a few years now and last year was the first time we caught this. It was great. The time he shows up varies but make sure to ask a CM or someone at City Hall and they'll clue you in. The best spot to see him is at the circle at the beginning of Main Street. He starts off in Frontier Land and comes all the way down and around the circle. It's the closest you'll get and it is a sight to see!

Also, if you are pin collectors, they usually release an event pin for MNSSHP. We've had the best luck getting them at either the photo shop on Main Street or the pin cart outside HM.

We'll be there too. Have a great time, it's a blast. - Nancy

Baloo-- I have been following this thread since it first started. We are doing our first MNSSHP on 10/31. Anyway, I have gathered so much useful information from everyone here, but you seem to have the answer to everything--- THANK YOU!

kilee...thank you so much...ya made me blush!!!

lissawynn...I'd head for EPCOT and the Food and Wine Festival!!!!YUM! YUM! Plus there's the new Mission Space to take a whirl on...BEFORE eating I think!!! LOL!You could do some rides and attractions then stroll around the WS eating goodies for lunch then head back to your room for a nap...believe me ,you'll NEED it!!!:teeth:

FWIW, our strategy the day we're going is to go to AK that morning for EE, with a short break to have late breakfast at Boma, and in the afternoon we'll be going to the room for a much needed NAP. We did MVMCP the last 2 years and found the nap really helps keep us awake and happy ;) And we are adults w/o kids. Anyway, back to the itinerary - after the nap, we'll try to make it to MK 5:30/6:00 since the knowledgable people on these boards informed us that we can get in that early!

I have just read the entire thread, thanks to all who have shared their experiences. I have two questions.

1. Just how scary is the Haunted Mansion during this. I thought I read that they do some 'extra' stuff on this ride? Is this correct?

2. What kind of treats to they give out? Do adults really trick-or-treat too? It was said that they get bags too?

Thanks:earsboy:  :earsgirl:

1. I don't recall anything different at the haunted mansion. It just felt spookier to me.
2. Yes, some adults do dress up in costume and get to collect all the candy they can get into their goodie bag. My guess is about 25% of adults dress up. It's a lot of fun whether you are in costume or not.

momto2...they don't do anything different to the HM in WDW but in Disneyland they change it a bit. They add some scences from A Nightmare Before Christmas from what I understand.

Yes it's fine for adults in costume to Trick or Treat.I've even had them give me some when Erich was smaller and I'd be in line with him.:) Several years at the very end of the evening CM were handing candy out almost begging you to take it!! This was on Halloween night so I suppose they needed to get rid of it.

Trick Treat candy we've gotten at past MNSSHP are Nestle Crunch bars,M &Ms,Reese Cups,Twizzlers,Willy Wonka and my boys say "all kinds of other things!!"

It has been 5 years since we attended MNSSHP,and as I remember the lighting is really LOW all over the MK.
The lighting is greens and purples...
Think I remember right, correct me if not.
Lots of fun .
We will be there again this year.
I'm sure there have been many changes in 5 years.
D.G

DISNEY GUEST...the lightening at the MK is usually pretty low especially in areas of Adventureland.I was REALLY surprised the first time I visited there at night over 13 years ago.

There is a lot of green, orange and purple ligtening throughout the park.Be sure to stroll along Main Street as they do some really cool Halloweenie things there now with lights!

Hiya everyone!

I'd like to say this: I went last year to MNSSHP and I loved it! This year my family is coming down and I was wondering if anyone had a website or two with some good pics I could email my family so I can get them "in the mood". Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

This will be our first time at MNSSHP and I was wondering would we be able to pick up a taxi at the transportation centre after midnight. It's easy enough to pick one up after Fantasia, but this is a few hours later. Would anybody have any ideas ?

Peewakio: I'm sure there will be taxis at the TTC. You might want to consider, however, taking the monorail to one of the monorail resorts and getting a taxi there. First, it might be quicker. Second, if there isn't a taxi right there, the resort staff would call one for you.

Enjoy! We're doing our first MNSSHP this year too.

Unfortunately, we aren't doing MNSSHP until NEXT year , but I have enjoyed reading this thread. I already have lots of good ideas!

Just a thought, my daughter's costume is always a princess costume (she thinks she was mistakenly "placed" with us and is really royalty) and she always trick or treats in ballet slippers (in East TN, the weather is usually pretty cooperative). They are inexpensive, dainty and comfortable.

We are coming back from a 4-night Disney Cruise on Thursday October 30. We plan on taking private transportation to the Swan. The only "plans" we have at this time is to do the Ice Cream Social on 10/30. With a DD, age 9, would it be too long of a day to disembark the ship - hopefully have a leisurely afternoon, do the ice cream social and then do MNSSHP?

My next question is - since we only have 3 days at Disney - should we go for 2 nights of MNSSHP, or should we try to see other sights instead?

Thanks much!
