Mickey's Not So Scarey Halloween Party

What exactly is this? I see it will be taking place from September 15-October 31 this year. A few years ago I was going to buy tickets but I thought it was just a one day event. Where and at what time does this event take place that they charge extra for it and it goes on for over a month?

We will be at WDW during this time and wonder if it is worth the price.
We do not have small children it it my husband, my 19 year old and me.
