Here's a mini TR on our night of Mickey's Halloween Treat on Sunday, October 29. Some good tips and tricks.

A little background info:

About 8 years ago when went to the Mickey's Halloween Treat at the DLR. It was so much fun. Lots of character interaction and fun crafts and yummy seasonal food. It was the last year they had it until 2005. We saw the advertisement in the Annual Passholder newsletter and decided to take DD & DS. We went last year and had a great time. The crowds were minimal and the trick-or-treating was great. DD & DS had a great time. See their photo in my siggy. Maddie was Jasmine and Evan was Nemo.
Well, we got the AP newsletter again this year in March and decided to go again. We bought 6 tickets in April and were all set to go.

Fast forward:
One of our key players backed out at the last minute for a golf tourney, so we had an extra ticket. We invited our DNeph, Max (9) to go and he was so excited.
Cast of Characters:
Me, DH, DD5, DS2, DMom, & DNeph.

10/29: We headed out for DCA around 5 pm with plans to go to ESPN Zone for dinner, prior to MHT. The line for ESPN was out of control with a 2 hour wait for a party of 6. We decided to make our way through DTD and grab something at the Jazz Kitchen Express. No line, and 2 open tables... score! We all ate and headed over to DCA to get in line. When we got there, the lines were all the way across the esplanade. We found a short(ish) line on the right side near the candy corn "A" of CALIFORNIA.

Well, shortly after we got in line, they opened more lines to the right of us, so we jumped in those lines and were around 10th in line. Now, we still have to wait a full hour before they open the gates. I take a few pics of the kiddies and we wait patiently. I strick up a conversation with the security guard and he tells me when I get in, head to the back of the park, first and then make my way toward the front of the park. Great advice, as you will read later.
They open the gates about 15 minutes early and we get our free Disney/Pixar "Cars" loot bags and make our way to Sunshine Plaza.

It's roped off until they fill the area. There's a live band playing Halloween music and the air is just buzzing with excitement. We wait at the ropes for about 5 minutes and are given the "Please don't run, please walk!"
We take off for Paradise Pier, as advised by Mr. HelpySecurity Guard. We notice everyone heads for the Backlot section. :confused3 Hmmmm... ok.
On our way to Paradise Pier, we notice we are alone. We hit the 2 candy station in Golden State near the food court. TIP: Get the candy infront of the bread place and go through the food court to the end, near the Chinese food place. There's another candy station there.

From there we head to Paradise Pier and hit the candy station infront of Screamin'. No line for Screamin'.... hmmm.... shall we ride? Of course. DH and I ride CS, with no wait and return to the kiddies for more Tricks and Treats. I notice the candy stations are also offering "healthy" snacks.... apple slices packettes. I don't know if you have noticed in your grocery store, but Disney has a new food line in our store. Everything from cereal, to cheese, to Mickey shaped hamburger patties. Oh, the mighty Disney dollar!
Anyway.... We make our way through the midway and see the games are FREE! DD wants to keep on treating, so we don't stop. We make our way toward the Sun Wheel to the next candy stop and get our goodies. Next stop, Mulholland Madness.
No wait at Mulholland Madness, so I ride with DNeph. DS is going crazy, because he wants to do the Sun Wheel. I hate that ride... it freaks me out. I can't ride it, no one in our party can. I comprise with DS and take him on the Golden Zephyr, which in case you don't know... is not gold... it's silver. :confused3
Of course, he loves it. But still is pointing at the Sun Wheel the whole time.

We hit the next 2 candy stations and head to the bathrooms near the Brother Bear trails. Refreshed we walk through the trails which have been re-named "Mickey's Hide and Go Treat Trails". This is cool, because they have about 4 treat stations in the trails. The kids are a little scared, but there's nothing in there remotely frightening.

We exit that and see Rafiki and DD must take a photo with him.

Around the river ride, is another "MHAGTT" and we make our way through that, collecting candy from 3 more candy stations.

Everyone is getting tired... it's getting late and we're still on DLS time. We decide to make our way over to the Backlot section and then leave. There's another candy station the left of Soarin' and another infront of Soarin'. We hit both and head over to Backlot. DD sees Mr. Incredible and has her photo taken with him. We also see JoJo and Goliath and Sully, no Mike.

This section of the park is empty and we decide to ride Monsters Inc, since there is no line. We ride it and hit the candy station infront of the ride and start to head out. But first some more photos.

All in all, we had a great time. DS would not wear his costume, Jack Sparrow, nor would he wear his back up costume, a Bat. Oh well. We came back home and filled a huge bowl with our candy from MHT. Worth the $19? Absolutely! The crowds are minimal and with a good game plan you can be out of there in 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

Have a Happy Halloween!!
