Mickeys Halloween Party Q's?

I've never really thought to go to DL during the halloween party time, but i am looking into it now [to take my brother for his bday, woot woot!] I'm having trouble finding info for the DL parties though, only finding stuff for WDW? Any help is greatly appreciated! [Or if there is a newbies thread about this that could work too]
Anyway, here are my questions:

1. Do I need to have a general ticket to get in? I know i have to purchase a seperate party ticket, but if, say, i fly down at 2-3 and get there right as the party is starting, do i need a DL ticket AND a party ticket? [does that make sense?]
2. Are most of the rides open? I know Space and HM are themes, but are Indy/Splash/BTMRR/etc still open? Which rides are usually not open?
3. How crowded does it get? I don't think i'll be doing tons of trick-or-treating, but are the ride lines really long? Crowded in general?Compared to a July trip? Is there a day that is generally better to go to have less of a crowd?
4. is it really worth it? I know i'm asking a bunch of people who LOVE disney, but is it worth the extra ~100 for two people to go?

The only ticket you need to get into the Halloween party is the party ticket. You do not need a general park addmition on top of a party ticket

The main rides/attractions will be available. Indy is going down for a major refub in September and will not be up again until sometime in December.

3. How crowded does it get? I don't think i'll be doing tons of trick-or-treating, but are the ride lines really long? Crowded in general?Compared to a July trip? Is there a day that is generally better to go to have less of a crowd?

A Tuesday party will be less crowded than a Friday party. Opening party and the closer you get to Halloween, the busier the party will be. To my knowledge, they don't get crazy busy like Christmas Day but they can get mid-week summer busy.

4. is it really worth it? I know i'm asking a bunch of people who LOVE disney, but is it worth the extra ~100 for two people to go?

If you love Disney and Halloween, then yes very worth it. If not, you can enjoy a lot of the Halloween atmosphere without going to the party. The Halloween Roundup always has carved pumpkins, the big Mickey pumpkin in Town Square is always there, HMH and GG are running during park hours, and there are a fair amount of villians waiting to meet you all with a regular park addmition. The party is tons of extra fun, with trick or treating and dance parties and fog on the ROA and Halloween fun stuff to the max.

The day time crowds won't be too bad, but they do start to get busy when party guests begin arriving. You can enter the park as early as 3 p.m. (if the party starts at 6) with your ticket, so many take advantage of that. We've found that if we show up at rope drop, we can still get a lot done before it gets crowded.

The parties are crowded, but they are manageable. You'll stand in long lines for trick or treating and character greetings to start, so I'd recommend riding on rides first, when the lines are shorter. The typical crowd pattern is get treats and autographs early while the kids are still awake, and then maybe hit a few rides later. So if you go opposite, that will really reduce your time in line. The Trick or Treat stations are open quite late, as are most of the character spots.

In regards to crowds, that all depends on when you are planning to go. The first two weeks of October are going to be busier due to Gay Days and Fall breaks.

We went in mid-October 2010, during three teachers' fall breaks. We attended a Friday Halloween party and then a Saturday regular day at both parks. Disneyland was much more crowded than I'd expected, during the party and even on Saturday. My last trip had been early June, opening weekend of World of Color, which was substantially less crowded. That said, the main thing that made it feel crowded on Saturday was the insane crowds around New Orleans Square due in large part (I'm sure) to Haunted Mansion Holiday. If not for those, it wouldn't have felt so bad.

We still got a lot done and if you love dressing up, Halloween, Disney villains, trick-or-treating, tiny parades, special projections/fog effects, and/or special meet-and-greets, you can enjoy the party. Just don't expect light crowds by any means. I'd plan for very heavy crowds and then if you get anything less than that, then you're doing better than expected.

Question - We have annual passes and halloween party tickets. We had planned to spend the entire day at the DL and/or CA. Will we need to leave and wait for the rope drop in order to get our wrist bands and candy bags? Any suggestions for how to handle this?

No you will not have to leave the parks. There will be no rope drop for the party. You will have to find a station that will be set up to get your wrist bands and treat bags.
