Anyone done this?...wondering about going since we'll be at FW anyway - kids would think it's fun!

My we took our kids when they were 1.5 & 3.5. They had a great time. It is basically 2 hours of nonstop dancing with the characters (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale, Daisy etc). I have never seen such interaction with the characters.

On the bad side the food is horrible. We are planning on doing this again but we will eat before we go. LOL! It is basically hot dogs & potato salad type things. But the kids had so much fun dancing that it was worth the price.

Sorry to hear that the food was not up to your expectations, but the name Mickey's Backyard BBQ should have given you a hint to the menu selection. We try to go to the BBQ at least once a year, and always have tons of fun with the dancing, and the unlimited beer is always a plus. With the spirit of back yard fun in mind it is a good way to spend the dinner hour.

This was probably the one thing I was disappointed in at WDW. It felt like a free for all with kids running wildly up to the characters. Ds was only 2 at the time and I was afraid he would be trampled. I would say save your money and do a character meal, or spend a little more and do the Hoop do doo.

I think it can be hit and miss. The time we went only about half the tables were taken and the kids spent a lot of time with the characters like Nicolepa says. I've read other reviews that said the place was packed and it was like bee's swarming the characters (which would not be much fun).

The food was ok. Fried Chicken, Hot Dogs, BBQ ribs, corn, beer and wine included.

It's Country and Western themed, music, line dancing, etc. If you enjoy C+W music you'd probably enjoy it more than others (without stating the obvious). It's all outdoors in a open sided shelter house, so if you're going in summer it can be very hot (we were there in August and they had fans all over the place to try and get some air moving).

We are glad we did it once, but for us the Hoop Dee Doo is much better.

Well it wasn't just the food, it was the quality of the food. It seemed like they took the leftovers from the Hoop dee doo review and that's what they gave us. Plus it seemed like they didn't give you a very long time to eat before taking the food away. We do the Hoop dee almost every year and love it, food included.
