I was able to make a PS for this today for my trip in Sept. I have tried before because it does have a 365 day booking window but the dates and rates were not out until recently.

It runs Tues and Thursdays and cost includes tax and tip
adult $39 and kids 3-11 $25
It in the pavilion at Fort Wilderness.
starts at 6:30 pm

Have you done this? Could you tell me more about it?

Thanks.
Lori

We did this back in 2000 as part of a birthday celebration trip for our DS. It was really pretty fun and they certainly moved a lot of people thru it very efficiently. Unless it has changed since we went, I would recommend going early and get your name into the CM as soon as you can as it determines the order that you go into the pavillion. We didn't know to do this and ended up being near the end so the seat we got were not the best. We didn't let if ruin the fun though. Once food is done, there is music, dancing and characters in western dress.

DS turned 9 that year and DD was 11. It was geared more to younger kids, but I know that we had fun.

Have a great time...

we went in december. i would suggest getting to fort wilderness no later than 6:00, if not before. we just got in line and when it was time, we all went in, went through the buffet line and then sat wherever. it was open seating. we went on the first day we arrived and were fairly tired by the end of the evening. glad i did it, but will not go again for several trips. have fun!

We did this in our June trip. Do you like country music? Do you really like country music?

Personally, I won't do this again because I am not a big country music person and line dancer, etc.

The food was a lot of barbecue type of food. The corn on the cob was just great! There was tea, water, lemonade, and I believe you could buy beer. Goofy, Mickey, and Minnie were the guests of honor and they came out for autographs and dancing with the kids.

We got there a little late and sat on the far perimeter, so did not see much of the action while eating. They also lost our picture they took prior to coming in to the area. I enjoyed walking around and checking out the lovely grounds of Fort Wilderness, take pictures of the peacocks roaming around, etc. It was also terribly warm being outside and it did have a lot more people there than I anticipated.

Glad I did it, but it was too hot and too country for me.

How easy was it for the kids to see the characters? Was it really crowded?

Hard to guess how many people were there but DH and I are guessing around 400 people or so. I guess I did not do my homework well, but I was surprised how many people there were there. It is a covered event with lots and lots of bench picnic type seating.

The kids got to see all the characters and the characters also walked around. DD even danced a little with Goofy (and a few other girls, too!).

We did the Backyard BBQ in June. I was kind of disappointed with it. First the location is a pain to get to if you aren't familiar with the Ft. W area. The buses thru the campground I found confusing and there were a lot of other people like me wandering around trying to find out which bus to get on. Then when you final get off the bus it is still a hike to the BBQ which was a problem with my Mom having mobility problems. Anyway the food was OK - what you'd expect at a BBQ - hot dogs, ribs, chicken, beans, corn on the cob and sheet cake for dessert, served buffet style. The country music band was pretty good. The MAJOR draw back is that it's outside in an open pavillion. I don't know if anyone else has realized this but June in central Fla. is HOTTTTT and it rains a LOT. I would have killed for a fan. Even my 11 yr old was wilting. The major selling point is the characters. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale were all there in country garb and they spent a lot of time with the kids. God bless those CMs who endure those heavy outfits in summer heat to please our kids. All in all I'm glad we went but I think it's one of those things that you really only need to do once, if you know what I mean.

So it seems ok to do ONCE . I have this planned for Sept.
I am going to try to do the horseback trail ride at 4 pm and then maybe look at the petting zoo and then be in line for Hoop by 6pm which is what the CM on the phone said to do. It is first come /first serve/ good seats. I do kinda like country music is you count Shania Twain as country..lol.
I would like to do this in Sept while my daughter is 11 because the following year she will pay adult price and she does not eat even close to an adult size meal.

We will be there 9 nights and I want to try a few new things.

I think the best way to get there would be boat from MK that way I won't have to take an internal bus to the place right?

Thanks for all the replies.

Lori

Yes best way to get there is the boat from MK to Ft. Wilderness. I think it's about a 10 min ride and the boat actually leaves you pretty close to where you need to be!
