Mickey's Backyard BBQ

We had a really great time at Mickeys BBQ! The food was very good for the typical disney buffets. All you can eat mickey head ice cream (which when it's free i managed to eat two...almost three). The entertainment was fun and the kids get to dance and play with the disney characters.

Only down side is the characters are just out on the dance floor and they are swarmed by kids. So it's hard to get great pictures of just your kid and the characters. But the kids and you will have blast!

This place does not get enough credit for what it is. Im surprised (and then again not) that nobody has replied thus far.

I am from New England. Country Music and BBQ are not a favorite around here. I went to the Mickeys BBQ a few years ago ONLY because I wanted a dinner show and considering I had dragged my kids to a lot of signature places, I thought they would like a burger or hotdog and a little entertainment.

We got there in the middle of the woods and it was a little "buggy". I was not looking forward to bug bits and burgers. When we were allowed in under the tents it was a whole new world! No bugs at all!!! We sat at picnic tables with other families. I wasnt crazy about this either, but Im so glad I did as it gave us all a chance to meet another great family and talk to other adults! The house band started playing and everyone got on the dance floor to learn to line dance. I am NOT a line dancer and didnt go, but watching the others (especially the ones who had no rythym at all) was fun to see. The music was great, the food was typical BBQ, burgers/dogd/beans/chicken/corn on the cob etc...but for what it was, it was good.

After most finished eating, The Disney characters..Minnie/Mickey/Donald/Chip and Dale/ etc..came out and did a dance, then signed autographs for the kids. There was a guy doing lasso tricks and a special guest singer. There was more freestyle dancing! And Dessert!!

It was a great night that I have done twice since. I highly recommend it.

This is the only character meal the we do, anymore. It is a lot of fun, the food is good, it is relaxing, and you get to meet other families.

Also, the characters are out dancing for quite some time. The kids really got to spend a lot of time dancing with them. We have some amazing photos from their younger years...

We do MBYBBQ every year. It is a tradition with our family. The only way we would do it is on the DP. It is so expensive as are most of the character meals. Just be advised that when you pick up your tickets at your hotel your DP will be charged immediately. When you look at your credits they will be 2 short (for each person) before you have even had a meal.

The food is good, not great. Standard Bar-B-Que fare, ribs, chicken hot dogs and sometimes hamburgers (which were just plain nasty, worst burgers I have ever come across). All you can drink beer, wine and soft drinks. Get desert as soon as you are done with dinner or you might find yourself out of luck. Some people have more than one desert, it is self serve.

Character interaction is great. The characters dance with the children, they do not come to the tables and sign autographs. The band is decent and the little show the entertainers put on is geared towards the kids. When you get there grab a seat that is next to the dance floor. Most of the kids are having a great time, they don't have to stay seated and be quiet, they can dance and move around and parents can still stay seated and eat and keep an eye on them.

Enjoy! :cutie:

We did this a few years ago and the characters did stop by the table. They took turns leaving the action on the dance floor. So if you weren't at the table you were out of luck.

It's a shame if they have changed that. Is there a possibility they circulate more during slower times (I think we went in October) or have they canceled that completely.

I'm apparently in the minority here, but I was disappointed by Mickey's BBQ. My family always does Hoop de Doo or the Luau, so we decided to try something new since we had heard decent reviews. We won't be back though.

We were also disappointed. We have been to Hoop de Doo many times and enjoyed it, so thought we'd try Mickey's Backyard BBQ also. We didn't like the food or the entertainment. We don't like country music anyway, so that probably has something to do with it.
