Is it covered under the dining plan? I'm assuming it's 2 credits if so. Any opinions? It's something I hadn't considered before, but I thought my 3 little grandchildren might enjoy it.

Yes it is covered---and 2 credits. We have it booked for next month. We've never done it before but our nephews love that sort of thing so....we think they'll enjoy it!

My friend just came back last week and went to Mickey's BBQ... she didn't like it...she said it was poorly ran and very chaotic... The food was not good, as well..the food they offered was~

BBQ Chicken..the only thing they liked
spareribs
Hamburgers..no one liked them
Hotdogs
Mac and Cheese
beans
corn on the cob
potato salad
cole slaw
watermelon
Ice cream
Beer and wine were included (bud light) it made it better

The characters~ Chip and Dale, Mickey and Minnie and Goofy

They ended up leaving early because it was chaotic...not worth 2 TS..I considered the BBQ for my family but we decided on the hoop dee doo review instead. It is one of the only restaurant/shows with consistant excellent reviews..enjoy your vacation..:)

Wow - thanks for the head's up! What characters does HDDR have? I don't want to use two TS (assuming we do decide to do DDP--unsure at this point) for somewhere they aren't going to see "folks they know."

HDDR has no Disney film or cartoon characters. It is a dinner show with a performing Wild West troupe.

Picnic food is not going to be like a fine dining restaurant...it's more about the show.

This is one of those things some people will love, others will hate. I have an ADR coming up and can't wait to try it. Our family is very into characters and meeting them in all the different costumes while we can. (Things change so often and suddenly at WDW)

So, instead of reading the reviews I went to you tube and typed in M BY BBQ and there it was...the characters dressed up in the cutest attire ever dancing and hanging out. I know my kids will love it! That's the best way to judge if you wanna go or not. Don't expect the best food over there. ;)

Great idea--thanks! We're a barbeque kind of family (being Texans and all), so the food really isn't the issue in this instance. I'll check out the video :goodvibes

I started a thread like this with the same question about a month ago. All the reviews said it was ok but they wouldn't be back.

Stated problems people said were:

It is outside so during the summer it was hot.

You have to get there at least 30 minutes early to get in line and wait for a seat b/c it is first come first serve at long picnic tables and if you want to get a seat in the center at the front you have to be in line first.

No handlers for the characters when they come out to dance, so small kids can get pushed around.

The characters don't come around and visit the tables only dancing on the dance floor for a little bit

Chaotic

With Beer and wind included some people can get "loud" so hope you don't sit near them.

Food was so so

Good things said:

Loved the unlimited icecream mickey bars.

Liked the beer and wine included in price

Liked the rope trick cowboy

Hope that helps, we decided to cancel our ressies, we also watched the video on you tube. We might try later, but we don't like being HOT, even though we live in FL, and our kids are small ones, so we don't want them to get trampled on the busy dance floor

We've done it twice, and we had a good time both times.

When we were there, the characters DID come around to the tables for pictures only, no autographs. But most of the time spent with them was on the dance floor. If you've ever been to one of the ticketed parties (halloween, or pirate and princess), it's almost like those dance parties, where the characters come out and are immediately bum-rushed by the kids...then the kids are bum-rushed by the parents trying to get their kid closer. It's a little chaotic, but since my son was little at the time we were out there with him to make sure he was OK, and he had a good time. People are equally as rude on Main Street 10 minutes before Spectro arrives...it's just they way things are sometimes.

And the food was OK - not great, not inedible. I mean, it's picnic food served to the masses, so I guess my expectations were pretty realistic to begin with. I have to agree about the burgers though - they were gross. But the ribs, chicken, cole slaw and beer were fine.

The tables are loooong shared tables. Some people brought disposable plastic table cloths to denote their "space", and more importantly just ot cover the outdoor table - thought it was a good idea if you had a little ones with you. And it's not completely tragic if you don't get the first table...you just have to walk a little further to the dance floor. You'll still see the other parts of the show without issue.

The only thing I will say is that I wouldn't go in the very hot summer months. It really is much warmer under the pavillion because of the lights and people and I could imaigne it being REALLY uncomfortable when it was hot...we went in Oct both times so it was OK.

Finally, when it's time to leave, there are 2 sides to the boat dock - one goes back to Magic Kingdom, the other to the Contemporary. The MK side is usually much longer, and the boats are not that big, so you may have to wait for the 2nd or 3rd one. (Hoop Dee Doo gets out around the same time, so lots of people). Try to just hop on the one going to the Contemporary then either walk or monorail back to MK. Depending on where you are in the MK boat line, this will probably get you there faster.

so I'm guessing the weather should be perfect. As far the food, although I've never been, I have to chuckle when I hear people complaining about the food, it's BBQ food with a BBQ setting so I'm really not expecting anything grand. We're going for the characters. If we meet with some characters and kids have fun, and don't get food poisoning, then I'll consider it a good night.

:rotfl2: I totally agree with you! I'm excited to see it! But I don't expect the food to be all that great...if even good.

So the pavillion is near the boat dock? We'd be coming from WL. I wonder if you have to take the boat back to CR and then WL or whether there's a direct one back to WL?

The pavillion is a very short walk from the boat dock. The first time we went we intended to drive (figuring it would be fater) but a CM told us the parking area is clear across the other side of the property and it would be much faster to bus to MK then take the boat.

If I remember correctly, the boat to/from MK stops at WL first, so it's kind of direct. I don't recall a 3rd one that went directly to WL but since I wasn't really looking for it I could be wrong.
