Mickey's 75th Statues

We were in Boston on Thursday and saw six or seven (I can't remember, I'll have to look at my pictures) of the Mickey's. I hate to report that they are in terrible condition! The nose and bat of Red Sox Mickey is missing, as is the nose of several other Mickey's. The Lobsta Mickey is in fine condition and Police Officer Mickey looked fairly intact as well. The statues are just standing out with no ropes blocking them off, and no one apparently monitors them as I saw kids and even adults climbing all over them! Mickey's right arm in most of the statues (if not all?) is raised and you should have seen everyone trying to sit on it, ugh. I don't think they are going to bring much at auction unless they are able to repair them in some way.

It was still nice to see them though! A little taste of Disney magic in Bean Town.

(Boston, 6/5, PM) Talked briefly with someone at the Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market area who confirmed that some of the Mickey statues were vandalized.

Red Sox Mickey (Home Run Hero) and a few others have been removed for repairs and are expected back in a week (6/12).

Children were climbing over the other statues, or set on the statues while parents took pictures.

FYI.
There is a Dismeet planned for Sunday 6/13 at 11AM in Boston. If anyone is interested check out TLinden's [Karen] thread on the Dismeets board. We already have 40 to 60 people going.

Carone013,

Tell me, is it worth going to see? I live in Medford and I'm not sure if it would be worth trekking all the kids over to Philly. Have you seen it?

I haven't been yet, we were thinking of going over the weekend of Father's Day. I will say though that seeing the statues is not the only reason we are going. Dd is in 2nd grade and learned about the Liberty Bell, so we thought that we'd tie it all into one trip - oh and of course we will take a carriage ride.

I'm not sure what statues are being shown in the Philly or how far you would have to travel but I was in WDW MK (Nov. 2003) when the statutes where all on display and dedicated and they are all great. My DD took many pictures of them and I think she is starting an album. to share

Its a shame that some of them had been vandalized while on display.

Thank you to you both,

Carone, we usually go into the city for a day around Christmas. We did a carriage ride and the kids loved it. I have a 1st and 3rd grader and two little ones so we may try and make a day of it.

We're going in September but the kids don't know it yet;)

I think that our trips to the World overlap.

We check in on 8/31 - 9/8, we are staying at BWV.

Small world, I live in Burlington, but I work in Mt Laurel pretty much right next to Medford.

carone,

I will wave to you from across the lake:wave2:

I'll be the red headed woman with the happy baby.

Medford schools are starting late this year due to some construction and the opening of two new elementary schools so we're taking advantage of it. We've never been to Disney in September and I'm hoping the crowds are low. We're not telling the kids until the baby's 1st birthday in July and the suspense is killing me!

ANyone know the exact dates and place that the statues will be in Philadelphia? I'd really like to see them!

They are in Philly as we speak and will be there until 7/20. They are at the Walnut Plaza at Penn's Landing.
