Does anyone have an idea as to what to tell a 3 year old when she ask why mickey doesn't speak at the parks and at character meals?

I've already gotten the question before we've even gotten to Disney and I wasn't sure what to tell her.

Thanks for any input. ::MickeyMo

The standard response is that Mickey appears in so many shows, parades, and personal appearances that he has to save his voice for them. So he tries not to talk in the parks, since he would be talking all day long and he'd lose his voice!

If that doesn't do it, you can also remind your 3 year old that not everyone who visits WDW is American, and not everyone understands English. So, by not talking to ANYONE (and using hand signals to communicate), Mickey makes sure that EVERYONE can understand him.

She is in the "why" stage now. Why this, why that. I know it is going to happen.

Hmm.. Thats a tough one. Tell her that "Mickey would rather wave to you and give you a big hug!!"

If you think that's a tough one, try explaining why Donald Duck is not wearing any pants when he walks about but wear swimming trunks when he's on a beach.

I was caught off guard by this one too. The only thing I could think of was that, if he talked to everyone in line it would take too long, so he just waves instead! :rolleyes:

This is true however, have you ever noticed the face characters lines take FOREVER!!:p

We have been telling DD4 and DS10 that Mickey has to save his voice and they both seem to accept it. DD brings it up every now and then, probably looking for a different answer more to her liking though!
I thought this one would be tough though. I took DS into MK for a few hours one morning, Town Square was full of characters. One that we saw was Pinocchio. We hurried back to the hub and took the shortcut into Liberty Square, and there under a tree was Pinocchio. I was seriously afraid there might be a question in DS's mind, but he smiled and said "Boy, he sure is fast!"

My DD6 has never asked about this, but ironically, I was just reading this thread this morning. We got in the van to go to lunch and were talking about our upcoming trip to Disney, and out of the blue, she said, "Why doesn't Mickey talk to me when I go hug him?" I'm so glad I had just read this thread or I would have been stumped!

Thanks everyone for the suggests. I particularly like the one about Mickey would rather wave and give you a hug. I think she'll go for that one for a while. I think she would understand the part about not having time to talk to everyone also.

Again, thanks and have a happy new year!

In the parks it's just too noisy for anyone to hear Mickey, thats why he calls every morning!! ;)
