Michelle Duggar pregnant with #19!!!

Um, they DO have a computer. They have limited access to the internet, but they all use it for games and email. The oldest daughter used it to make a slideshow of Grandpa Duggar when he passed.

Umm, sorry, but what's limited access mean? Thanks, April

Also the older children who can use a computer do their school on the computer using Switched on Schoolhouse. I have heard great things about it from families locally who have used it and they run from "duggar like" to "gaming" families (gaming as in going on line and planning a war with complete strangers to annilihate some imaginary village).

Just curious. When did you ever see the Duggar girls wearing pants? I've seen the little ones wearing bike shorts under their skirts, but never the older girls.

I've seen them wear pants "once"--it was on a construction episode in their new home--and it was frigidly cold outside and they wore these brown padded things--not quite a snowsuit b/c it didn't look like the proper fabric, but something workmen would wear out in the cold.

And I am surprised, but the toddler duggar--is wearing pants with all of her dresses. Maybe she is the first girl in a while so we haven't seen the other girls do this when they were little. But she is wearing pants alot until she gets her ladylike behavior down. Some of her outfits do look like a long shirt and pants instead of a dress with leggings.

I wish them all the best and, while I may not agree with their beliefs, think they are providing a solid upbringing for their children.

It may be useful for some people in this thread to remember the saying "People who live in glass houses..." 'cause there seems to be an awful lot of Glass Houses (or perhaps Glass Castles ;)) around here!!!!

My only problem with this family is that there's tons of kids that need a home. Just because it didn't pop out of her, doesn't mean they can't love another child. I've seen many times on TV, like Dateline or 20/20 about parents adopting a dozen or so children, one at a time, but because they had the love to give. They've created a loving home, and they have the resources to provide for them.
The mom and dad that got shot here in Florida, I think we're much more amazing parents than the Duggars. And every one of these adoptive families still have a big belief in God and the Bible.

I'll be the first one to say that I do not believe in the Duggar's lifestyle/religion and what that means to the future of their children, specifically the females. I do not think having 19 children is fair to any of them for various reasons. However, I would never have a problem with how many children a couple decides to have just because there are unwanted children out there who need to be adopted.

The ones that got shot here in Florida had some serious legal problems and may have been involved in some illegal activities. They're not a great example, but I do understand what you're saying.

I never heard about anything illegal going on with them. Of course I was in Texas when most the investigation was going on, and I try to avoid the local news. But still, you have to have some sort of loving heart to take in disabled children like that. It's hard on me with my brother, and that's just one.

Let me get this straight, If she had adopted 19 kids it would be fair to the kids? But if she gave birth to 19 its unfair for the kids??? WHAT?

No, you still have it crooked

I don't think its fair to any kids in a family that has 19 kids. What I said is that I would never have a problem with people having their own children just because there are other kids out there who need homes. I have 3 kids, should I have stopped at 1 and adopted 2 because I really didn't have to have them since I could have found 2 that were already born and needed homes? Of course not, and that is the point I was making in my post.

understand now;)

I just don't like the amount of control they exert over their kids. The really sad thing is that there are a lot of parents responding that they don't like this either yet they do the same thing to their own kids, they just don't do it on national TV. There are plenty of people here that won't let their kids out of their sight, homeschool their kids because they don't like the influences at the schools, only let their kids play with kids they pick out for them, let them be in the sports or activities they want their kids to be in, etc. It just is better disguised. There are a lot of "I would NEVER...." comments all over DIS posts about what you would and would not let your children do that really isn't all that far off of what the Dugger's are doing with their children. There are a lot of posts here that flat out say "I want to control what my child sees, reads, eats, watches, thinks." How is that any different?

While I think the Duggars take it to the extreme, I don't see anything wrong with expecting kids to help out with younger children and around the house, within reason.

As for having 19 kids, I do think ethically it is irresponsible. I have to agree that we are stretching our planet to the extreme and I think we owe it to everyone else to not overburden our resources. That doesn't mean we need to go to a one child policy but 19 is pushing it.

What DOES bother me about the Duggers is that they are exploiting their children. THAT is not right. Live your life, have as many kids as you want but don't drag them on national tv and certainly don't announce your pregnancy on national TV. In this respect they are no better then pageant parents pimping their kids out.
