We are off to WDW in five weeks. We are so excited especially as our 19yr old lads are home from UNI and coming with us old folks. They really want to go off to Miami on the train and stay over on their own. Does anyone have any experience of this and if possible any hotels that are reasonable in the area?:)

Yikes the train takes 5 3/4 hours or 7 1/2 hours! So would take up two whole days travelling there and back. The cost is $77 for each adult.

The Greyhound bus looks better as early morning departure arriving mid morning and a return in the afternoon for an evening arrival. The times are about 5 1/2 hours each way. The cost is also alot less at $44 each.

Thank you very much that is helpful. I will let you know on return if the boys took the train. They are students and hopefully won't mind too much. Especially as its the bank of mum and dad paying!!:rotfl:

I looked into this a couple of years back. From what I remember, the train passes through Orlando just once a day and the timings were not at all conducive to what we wanted to do.

i'm not sure i would let my 19 year olds do this on their own...
they're not familiar with the US and what not to do to avoid getting into trouble..

the US can be a very dangerous place, especially when people aren't familiar with what's safe and not safe to do...

miami is a tough town and bus riding isn't considered the safest form of transportation in the US....
