Ok to start off I am not a Sad person I been discribed my all my friends and coworkers as someone who they never seen mad or sad. As far as young goes I am not sure what your difinition of young is I am 25 years old not a teenager. Why is Miami such a horrible place to live allright here goes.....

1) TRAFFIC yeah allrite everyone has traffic. Everyone doesnt have meaningless contruction though. Take for example for those who live in Miami....LeJuenne Rd right by the Airport all the way up to 8th Street, The Palmetto they been "fixing" that since I was in diapers, The 836 right in front of MIA, The 826 from the 8th Street Exit all the way to the Bird Road Exit, 87th street all the way from Bird Rd to Flagler.

The majority of these are streets that have no justification being "repaired"

2) TOLLS not really a Miami issue more of a state issue. We are the only state that I know off that charges $1.25 to use the expressway.

3) INSURACE both home and car insurace in Miami is ridiculous. I pay $160 for a 2000 Honda Civic. Never been in a accident and Never gotten a ticket. As far as home insurace goes after so many hurricanes some people pay more insurace then they do morgage payments.

4) TAXES and HOME PRICES. I once went to visit a friend in Oregon he had a huge beautiful house with 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms a dinning room and a office. Inside of lovely community with a big back yard. paid $170,000 for it. In Miami $170,000 wont even buy you a apartment.

5) HURRICANES during the last hurricane I got to spend my 3 hours holding a mattress up to a door that was about to fly away.

6) PEOPLE are just about the nastiest and rudest I ever seen. Granted not everyone is but a good part of the population.

7) WEATHER ok this one is just a personal feeling but 77 degress on Christmas day is not something I like. Not knowing what the seasons look like isnt nice.

I stay in miami becuase I was young and foolish and decided to buy a new car. The payments will be finished this year and I will leave Miami then.

Positive things I can think of

1)BEACHES yeah very nice but we arent the only state to have beaches

2)NIGHTLIFE If its your cup of tea well then its good. The thing is I can move to another state and I am sure tehre will be clubs there also.

Isnt it nice to live in a beautiful community where the seasons change. Where when springs comes flowers bloom and when its halloween the leaves turn. Then the whole neighborhood goes out trick or treating. When for Christmas you get snow and go decorate your homes with neighbors. Where you can go for a trip into town and not have to worry about streets that are perfectly fine being fixed. Where you might have to worry about a occasional snow storm but nothing like a 110mph hurricane that will leave you without power for weeks. A place where your insurace and taxes are a normal and not astronomical.

Well thats how I feel about Miami I am not trashing anyone who lives there or enjoys visiting. Lets not turn this into a thread basshing me. I am not a sad or bitter person I make do with what I have. I do know that as soon as I financialy can I will move out of Miami. It is not my cup of tea if its someones else I respect that. So please respect me.

I am not going to debate this, I will just say that I have lived in Miami 39 years and wouldn't live anywhere else!!

Try living in a New York suburb! I'm reading down your list and we've got you beat big time, except for the hurricanes. I would trade places with you in a minute! If $1.25 toll bothers you, try $6.00 just to cross a bridge! Price for a cruddy little cape cod house here is $450,000. I won't even start on insurance. Sorry you don't like it there but believe me, I bet you are going to have a lot of people who think you don't have it bad at all!

I must have missed something. :confused3

There are pros and cons to any area. You have to figure out what you like and want and then find a place that meets most of your criteria. I've lived all over the country from Oregon, where I was born, to Wisconsin, Virginia, Texas, and now Maryland. I like MD a lot, but there are things that I don't like (traffic is bad, but I don't have to drive much and the cost of living).

I've never been to Miami, so I can't speak to that particular city.

I live in Portland, Oregon and homes aren't cheap. I don't know of any huge houses for that price. :confused3

Even in southern OR the housing costs have gone up a lot. Not sure what $170K could buy in many OR locations.

Well, Rob, every place has its drawbacks. Housing prices here in the SF Bay Area are ridiculous! Many pros & cons. It's a good thing that you plan on moving after your car is paid off - it sounds like you would do well with a change. Good luck.

Not sure what the area in Oregon was I know it was no more then a 2-3hour drive from Seattle. Also tehre was sometype of Religious park. We had to get a token to take an elevator to this area with lots of flowers. Also there were some very BIG falls 30minutes away. Mahummed falls or something like that. Also tracey why do you sound so sarcastic when wishing me luck? I made myself clear when I was not going to turn this into a argument. There are nicer ways for you to wish me luck. I can move to Orlando and be perfectly ok. I go tehre all the time and the oly bad traffic is on the I4 near Lake Buena Vista. I dont mind snow I can move to Vermont/New Hampshire/Virginia the list goes on and on. I dont need luck just saying how I feel

You mean Multnomah Falls? The religious park you're probably talking about is the Grotto, a Catholic shrine. Well Portland is about 3 hours from Seattle but there aren't any large homes in that price range.

How many years ago were you in Oregon? We had a job possibilty there several years ago and my DH and I looked into it. I liked the idea of moving back to Oregon and thought the cost of living would be a lot lower than Maryland. I'm sure it was lower than here, but I was shocked at how expensive homes were. It is a beautiful part of the country for sure, but of course many people don't like the rain that occurs on the west side of the mountains.

:rotfl2: Please...do tell where that utopia is!

Yeah thats the place......Well the exact location of the place in unknown to me right now. Point I was trying to make is that homes in other parts of the U.S. are much nicer and less expensive then here in Miami. Now yes I know places like NY or NJ homes are expensive. Lets just not turn this into a home cost thread. Lets just say you get more for your buck in other parts of the country then in miami

It sure isn't the Cross Bronx Expressway here in New York! I guess I'm being impatient. They started work in 1970. Let's give it some time. :rotfl:

ZuRealSoon what state do you live? I can name a couple of places I consider Utopia if you want. Keeping in mind that Utopia for me might not be Utopia for you. I never seen snow WOULD LOVE to see it. I am sure 35% live where it snows and dont look foward to shoveling snow or driving in the icey conditions. I cant say I would like to drive in icey conditions but I wouldnt mind the shoveling.

I am sure once the car is paid off, Rob, and you are able to move, all will be well. I would not look into the Chicago area however, as I don't think you will like it here either, based on the Miami problems mentioned. No hurricanes, but do have tornadoes, some floods, blizzards and sub-zero right now. The other items, we are a lot worse than there. Until then, as you say, Wishing You Magic.
