Can anyone help me out with details of the car hire procedure on arrival at Miami Airport.
We have booked with usrentacar and understand that you have to catch a bus to get to the pick up for the rentals.
Thanks guys

As Paul says, it can be a bit of a bun-fight getting on your bus! There seem to be plenty of buses around but, when a flight lands, there are bound to be quite a few people all heading for the buses at the same time :crowded:

You could also, as an alternative, take a taxi to your depot. :drive:

we used Dollar from Miami and found it ok, it took about 10 mins to get to the depot. The depot is very close to I95 to head North, or South if heading to beaches or Downtown.

We used Budget, booked through USRentacar, from Miami. When you walk out of the terminal it can be quite confusing but head right and that is where the shuttle buses stop. As others have said, get on the shuttle which shows the Car rental company which you are hiring from - most of the depots are about a 10-minute bus ride from the airport terminal. If you can pre-join one of the loyalty programmes for your car hire provider, that could help you as, with Budget, we had a huge delay waiting to get our car and it was at least an hour before we were on the road.

We often fly to Miami. In the airport arrivals area it's well signposted to the car rentals exit, IIRC it's on the ground floor, which as you go outside is sort of underground. There are several lanes of traffic all going one way, and I think you need to cross to the middle to get to the rental bus stops. The major companies have buses every few minutes so there should be very little wait. If you have lots of luggage there are plenty of porters who will put everything on a cart and take you to the correct stop (they will be grateful for a few dollars tip!). It's a short drive to the rental stations near the airport perimeter.

We didn't find getting to the car hire area too bad....the immigration line was another matter altogether!

By the time we had (eventually) cleared immigration, we were shattered and a tad disorientated, it took us a while to figure out how to get to the car hire bus, we didn't think that the signs were very clear, but that could have been because we were soooo tired!

We jumped on the bus, and were at our car hire place (alamo) within 10 minutes.

After dropping off our car on our return journey, it was more of a bun fight getting a place on the bus to return to the airport, but I can be quite persuasive when needed, and I actually got so fed up with folk pushing in that I literally barricaded the bus entrance!!

If we have booked with usrentacar do we catch the busmarked for them or do we catch the Dollar bus?
If we do decide to catch a cab how much do you think it will cost and how far is it to the rental depot?

The only time we went into Miami it was absolutely manic. (After Hurricane Frances). We waited about an hour for the Alamo bus but after that it was fairly easy to find the route out of the city.

*I've edited this as I didn't think I was being particularly helpful to the OP!*

Lisa,

You need to get the bus for the actual company that Usrentacar has booked for you. They will tell you who that is on the rental details.

I suggest you forget about the taxi idea as there really is no point - if in the rare circumstance that there's some major problem like a hurricane meaning the buses are running late, then I'll bet it'll be impossible to get a cab anyway!
