MGM - which counter service?

MGM has some great sit-downs (I went to Sci-Fi last time), but I don't think I want to spend my time (and $) in a sit-down restaurant this time. Can any of you recommend any of the counter service restaurants? Thanks!!!!

Unfortunately, the counter service in MGM is way lacking! We had a good meal (not fantastic, but definately good) at Pizza Planet, across from Muppets 3D. They have JUST pizza and salad.

We ate over near ToT (Rosies) and it was really bad food.

There is a restaurant near Indiana Jones I think called the The Backlot Express, we ate there last year. The food was good. Just your regular burgers and chicken sandwiches. Nice place to rest after a hard day of walking around.

-saving my pennies for my next trip to WDW-

We usually eat at Rosie's before going into Fantasmic. We grab some burgers, then go into the ampitheater to wait for show and eat while we're waiting. The burgers aren't awesome by no means, but they taste just like the rest of the burgers at the counter service restaurants in Disney.

I'll second Backlot Express and Rosie's. We grabbed food a few times at Rosie's on our last trip. We also had a good lunch (grilled veggie sandwich for me) at Backlot Express.

I just ate at the ABC Commissary and it was delicious!!! The fish and chips were GREAT...

I'm a huge fan of the Toluca Turkey Legs Co. (I think that's what they are calling it now!) Basically they sell footlong hotdogs and turkey legs, and drinks. Great value for the amount of food you get! And the hotdogs are great!

I plan on going to ABC Commisary. I've read that it has the best counter service food in the Studios.

We had some of the best hot dogs I've ever had at Toluca Turkey legs. Huge and only $3.79 or something like that. It is located on Sunset Blvd. near the entrance to Fantasmic, if I remember correctly.

I have eaten at the ABC Commisary twice now and found the menu to be interesting and the food to be decent. It is not a hamburger and hot dog place. The interior is really great with art deco styling and would make a great full service place. They just need to get rid of the TV's blaring commercials for ABC programs.

I vote for the ABC Commissary too. It's a little toward the back of the park, and thus, doesn't get as crowded as some of the other places.

Also, it's indoors (a good place to cool off!).

They have the usual cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets, but they also have some interesting Middle Eastern dishes.

How about for breakfast? Anything in MGM?

I've heard Starring Rolls Bakery is good, but have never been there ourselves.

I thought I must have just hit Rosie's on a bad day but I can't go back there thinking about the cheeseburger I got there a couple of years ago. I rarely meet a cheeseburger that I won't eat :teeth: but after waiting in this giant line I got one there that I took one bite into and it had a rank, spoiled taste to it and it was cold. Yuk! DH and my children ate some of what they were eating but their fries were cold. I know I could have taken my burger back but after biting into it I wasn't hungry anymore. I haven't tried all the fast food places at MGM because I simply don't care for the choices. We usually take a break, hop the ferry to the BC and eat at Beaches and Cream at the BC where I KNOW I can get a good hot burger and fries. I know there are some that disagree with me, but in MY experience the burgers at WDW are NOT all the same.

Hey - that's a good idea, Epcotgal8! I wish I could get DH to leave the parks for lunch, but he likes to eat in the parks, unless it is a non-park day, then I can drag him anywhere.

I can find something satisfying at MK, AK, and Epcot for counter service but MGM is my least favorite. Next trip we are eating a really early dinner at Brown Derby, and we'll probably try to find a pretzel with mustard for lunch . . .

ABC as they have a very good Cuban sandwich and a great Middle-Eastern wrap.

I agree with the OP that said counter serve in MGM is lacking.

We had ABC commissary and I can say with true honesty it was the worst meal I have ever had at WDW. We'd rather of had McD's.

The portions were small for one and the selections were lacking. I got some type of Asian with noodles that was almost inedible and DH hamburger was awful as well.

Will NEVER go back.

I have heard others complain about ABC in the past as well.

Now this was two years ago so maybe the menu has changed.

I also had heard bad things about ABC, and avoided it on my last stay. For all of you had liked it, when did you last go?

ABC and November and had a good meal. Not incredible but good for what we paid for and expected.

I ate there last May (03) and had the Fish and Chips. They were good though hard to eat the way they were served.
