We are planning to spend the whole day at MGM Studios and would like to visit a really good restaurant. We were thinking a heavily themed restaurant might be nice. For instance when visiting the Animal Kingdom a good place to eat is the rainforest cafe. Does anyone have any ideas? and what are the themes?

we have enjoyed many meals at hollywood brown derby. it is an exact replicate of the original. i think that will be the most "themed" restaurant in that park. :earsboy:

i agree--brown derby. yummy and a great place to relax and escape the crowds and heat. make sure you try the cobb salad. i have a picture of it on my fridge from our last trip and i wish for one every day!!! ::MickeyMo

Momo: You don't mention ages of folks in your group. Brown Derby is wonderful -- however a bit "adult." Kids do OK there, but . . . . Fifties Prime Time a great memory for those of us who remember the Fifties! A puzzle for younger folks.

Sorry about that... The ages for the 5 of us are: Me-36, Wife-32, DaughterMorgan-10, DaughterHannah-7, Grandmother-56 :jumping1:

Momo: If you want a "heavy theme" that fits Disney's MGM Studios, and some of the best food anywhere at WDW -- go for the Brown Derby.

Our favorites are Mama Melrose and Brown Derby. MM is a must do for us. BD has pretty much reached that point again for us as well.

We went to Mama Melrose the last time we visited MGM Studios. The food was great and the atmosphere definitely italian, but was looking for something a little different as we frequent the olive garden, ragazzis and carrabas (all italian style) here at the house.
Just looking at some pictures of the Brown Derby it does look nice so we might try that.

How about the Sci-Fi Dine in restaurant - that looks unique in the pictures. What is it like?

We have been to the Brown Derby a few times and usually enjoyed it, but the last time we ate there (about 2 years ago) we thought the food was not that great and the service was slow. I realize every rest. can have an off day now and then, I guess. As you probably know, it is pretty expensive, too. With two children, I think they might enjoy the SCi Fi or Prime time Cafe better. I know the food at the Brown Derby is def. "fancier" than the others and the atmosphere is more elegant. However, for heavily themed rest. I think the other two might be more interesting for the children. Sci Fi is not generally known for great food, but has good hamburgers and shakes according to many on these boards, and you sit in cars and watch old science fiction movie clips. Prime Time is set up like a kitchen from the 50's and the waitresses/waiters usually engage you in some fun talk, often pretending to be a relative and encouraging you to finish your veg., take your elbows off the table etc.

I guess it depends if you want a "fun" dining experience or if you are looking for a fancier, more adult oriented dining experience. Hope this helps somewhat. Good Luck! :)

Always interesting to read other's opinions. We found Sci-Fi food to be good (hamburgers, etc.) -- weird place, however. Ate at Brown Derby several times in January with children & grandchildren -- always good food & great service. We do lunch -- skip dinner as a rule. If you're into Hollywood & film history -- and that's what MGM Studios is all about -- then the Brown Derby fits the "complete theme."
