Last time at MGM my daughter and I attended the Animation show. We saw a short movie with Mushu and were ushered into a hall to meet characters from Chicken Little and play with some computers. I thought I had read on the boards that you could do an animation class similar to the one in Disney Quest, does anyone know anything about this? Can the kids actually do a drawing?
Thanks

There is definitely an animation class available at the end of The Magic of Disney Animation attraction. It is called the Animation Academy. My older son & I visited this attraction and took the animation class twice while my wife took our younger son to the Playhouse Disney show.

Each person sits at a desk with a large sketch pad and a pencil. It seems the room accommodates about 30-40 in each class. It is pretty fast paced, as the instructor leading the class moves quickly. If you get behind, you better be good at multi-tasking (drawing & listening) because the class is on a time schedule and the instructor doesn’t slow down. When we went last October, there were only about 8-10 people in each class with no one really waiting to get in. My son (age 7) got frustrated with the rapid pace of the instructions because he fell behind as we were trying to draw Minnie in the first class. He eventually quit and just watched me. He wanted to do it again, so we immediately returned for the next class. He was more prepared for the pace the second time and did a much better job drawing Goofy.

The Magic of Disney Animation is a nice little attraction that has the bonus of giving you a free souvenir. I plan to take the class again when we return in October.

My boyfriend and I did it last year and got to draw Scrooge. It was a lot of fun, and made a great addition to our scrapbook since it was something we actually did. We can't wait to do it again this year. I didn't know they did different characters in each session though...maybe we will do 2 or 3!

Like Epscot said the class holds about thirty people and everyone sits at a light up desk that makes the drawing a little easier. Each instructor usually does two sessions in a row, so it's possible that you will get a couple different instructors per day. They do have a 10 minute time limit so they will draw pretty fast in order to keep up. It depends on the character as well as to how complicated it is...some instructors like to challenge the crowd a bit with some more demanding characters....

This is a favorite of ours, we've done it close to thirty times now and have only had the same character twice (aside from the different angles of a characters face...like Mickey side profile and Mickey straight on) It's a great souvenier because it's hands on and more importantly it's free.

If you don't want to sit through the Animation film with Mushu at the beginning you can walk through the Art of Disney store to the right of the entrance and walk all the way to the back...where you would exit had you watched the film. The sessions themselves last only about 10 to 15 minutes and shows are typically every 30 minutes. Also if your daughter enjoys it, be sure to check out Art of Disney for the sketch books that show how to draw many different characters...it was my christmas present this past year, and I love them!

Hope you have fun if you do it, it's one of my favorite things at MGM!!

The classes actually hold up to 50 people. We love them and have done a variety of characters.

My son really enjoys this. He's into drawing, esp Disney characters. We've done it several times in a row, and did a variety of characters.

We did this last year and it was great fun. We got to draw Pooh pooh:
