Mexican Food!!!

My one experience at Rancho was horrible....but we really liked Tortilla Jos---delicious. I almost want to try Rancho again because people keep posting wonderful looking pictures that look NOTHING like what we ate...horrible dried out food that no one liked. Maybe we just hit it on a bad day.

If you don't mind me asking...what did you eat at TJ's?? Did you both have the same thing?

And what are Lady Mariachi's?:goodvibes

It's hard to remember, it was in 07 or 08. We did share something, I want to say a burrito and nachos because we both love those and we shared. We also ordered from the take out window, I don't know if that means anything or not.

Lady Mariachi's, they are a Mariachi band but instead of men it's all women. They play and sing and we loved them!

They are both decent. The deciding factor should be whether or not you want a margarita with your Mexican food. If so, you will have to go to TJs. :)

Not true, if you want a Margarita (and man that sounds really good right now! LOL) you can eat at Cocina Cucamonga, you can get a Margarita at Rita's Margaritas right there. :) The beer truck is also right next to CC. :)

I've seen the horrible dried out food, because it's similar to Panda Express the food can get gross on the steam tray. I refuse to eat it that way tho, if it's gross looking I simply ask for fresh and they've always been happy to bring me fresh food. :) My favorite is the cheese enchiladas with rice and sauteed veggies. I've asked for fresh enchiladas 2 or 3 times, never had any problems. :)

Neither of them are very impressive by my mexican food standards. Rancho and CC are sort of similar quality. Just okay mexican, decent theme park food, but we have gone back more than once.

Tortilla Joes was just okay, but it was sooo expensive for Mexican food that just wasn't anything impressive. My husband and I both agreed we would never waste our money again when we can go down the street at home and get an amazing mex meal for a fraction of the price.

Rancho was completely disgusting, level of taco bell. We were excited to eat there after reading about them, my family couldn't even finish the food we bought, never again.

Depends on what you mean by Mexican food....both these restaurants serve "Americanized" Mexican food. Not what you'll find on a trip to Mexico.

If you'll have a car and want something closer to authentic Mexican food...drive across the border into Tijuana. Lots of Americanized food there as well, but get off the main tourist road and you'll find the places the locals eat at. Just use caution about drinking the water, or cold drinks made with water (juices, etc). Montezuma is still alive and wrecking havoc on American digestive tracks.

There are also quite a few closer to authentic Mexican restaurants outside of Disney.....sadly I can't remember their names, I can remember where to find them, having grown up in that area. Hopefuly someone living there now can spout off some names for you!

Please tell us about those places - I'm serious. As for TJ's we always get the chicken nachos, which is quite good, a generous portion, and practically a bargain. We haven't ventured into the regular part of the menu which does seem pricey.

Our favorite is Chili Pepper in Orange, on Main near Chapman. Great atmosphere, service, and food. Closer to DL is a counter service place called Los Sanchez. It might be more "authentic", with some pretty exotic things being carried away by the patrons, e.g. a deep fried fish head-to-tail. I stay "close to home" with a burrito or chicken picado. Los Sanchez is about 3 miles south of DL on Garden Grove Blvd, just west of Disneyland Drive aka West Street.
