Metro PCS or other budget cell phone

I have had t-mobile for well over 5 years now and am sick of the huge bill every month.

Metro PCS looks like a good deal, but I was wondering what your experiences have been? The "deluxe" plan that I am looking at is $40 per month. But, it doesn't tell me what hte total would be with taxes, etc. Can anyone with the $40 plan tell me what their monthly bill is?

Also, how is the service? When I threatened T-Mobile with going to Metro they told me the service is lousy
