Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

IM HOME.. No damage and finally have power!!!

WOO HOO

Ill update later I need a freakin shower and a nap and some HOT food!

Love yall... I missed talking to my girls this week!!!

We've decided to head home tomorrow morning, power or no power. We may be doing this dance again next week with Ike.

Hey everybody! Can you hear that? The generator's off & the power is on!

Now listen, as y'all all breathe a sigh of relief once you get home & everything returns to "normal", please focus it towards the Gulf so Ike goes away! I don't wanna do this all over again next week. I need time to wash a mountain of laundry & start making ice all over again.

Please stay safe as all of you return home.

Keeping a watchful eye on Hanna as well for the gang in the FL area .

Another thing, especially to those of you who had to hit the road - save ALL your receipts (lodging, food, gas, etc)

I'm not sure what FEMA has decided, but I did see something in The Advocate this morning that mentioned talk of reimbursements for those who headed to hotels. I'm also hearing talk about $$ for purchases like generators. I just pray they've learned a little bit since K, and the red tape won't be so horrendous.

I'll try to head to the FEMA site once things settle down here. I'll be sure to pass along anything I find out.

Glad to see everyone is getting back home safe and sound and to little damage. Let's hope we don't need to do this again in a week or so :goodvibes

Hey ya'll. We got back late last night. We had power last night and we just got internet. I hope everyone is doing well.

I finally have food in the fridge and freezer after two trips to two stores. :sad2: The shelves were well stocked at the Walmart in Covington.....everything that is except dairy or meat. After coming home and putting all the groceries away I went to the Winn Dixie in Mandeville and they had everything you needed. The cheese case was full, every kind of meat you could think of and restocking milk. I could have saved myself a lot of time by skipping Walmart all together. I didn't buy too much because I hate to admit that I'm a little nervous of IKE!

I'm thinking of you all. :grouphug:

:wave2:Hi ladies...How is everyone today?

Boy am I still pooped. I took the longest bath last night. I woke up early this morning to fight the crowds at the grocery stores....I was able to get everything I needed besides meat. I searched all 3 Starbucks on WB and they were all closed; I am having serious withdrawals. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Pray for our family members in Lafourche & Terrebonne - looks like nearly 4weeks before power restored. No water, sewer, power.

Terry - don't you have family in Vacherie? Sounds like St. James taking it on the chin as well.

Yes girl they are sweating up a storm over there however the power is expected to be fixed by Tuesday! In the meantime, my family is staying between me and my cousin.

Prayers for your family as well; hopefully it will be sooner than 4 wks.

I didnt restock much at all. Just the bare essentials to get us through until we leave for Dis on Tuesday. We have just enough meat to last lol.
Ill do the big trip when I get home.
Im gonna look into applying for the food stamp card for disaster relief. Ive never done it before , but since i have a ton to replace It would be nice for a lil help.

Anyone have any info on generator rebate, heard about it on the radio, but cant seem to find info.

Hi everybody,
We just got home this afternoon. I am dead tired right now. We have power but no cable. Are we still supposed to be conserving on water usage because of the sewer systems not being 100% in Jefferson parish? That problem is what kept us away for an extra day or so even though we had power.

I'm glad we headed out early Saturday morning. Except for a slow down on the Twin Spans, we did the speed limit most of the way to Hattiesburg and made it in just over 2 hours. Our neighbors left around noon and it took them 5 1/2 hours just to get to Picayune! Yikes! Again, coming home today, we made great time. I still can't believe I'm home. I really thought I wouldn't see my house (dry) again.

R u in Jefferson P, if so yes you can use the water now. :)

Kathy, where in Hattiesburg did you stay? We were at the Ramada Inn on the Hill.

We may be doing this dance again next week with Ike.
We had heard that as they checked out, people were making reservations for next week in case of Ike and we did the same thing. We already have ressies starting next Wednesday for 6 days. Here's hoping we don't have to use them!

We are on Highway 49 at a Comfort inn. I am so disgusted, we still have no power but can't afford to stay any longer so we're headed home tomorrow.

not to be a negative nelly, but I would strongly warn you against getting the food stamp card if at all possible. it is based on the money you have in the bank in the month of September and they don't care what your losses were (unless they were catastrophic - which mine were but not catastrophic enough). they are trying to make me pay back from Katrina even though they swore we were all entitled to it but they changed the rules behind our backs and didn't tell anyone.

I prob wont fool with it.. too much trouble to even look into it lol.
Thats crazy they are trying to get you to pay it back, i would bet you arent the only one! All of my friends got it for Katrina.. I didnt bother once again I thought it was to much trouble. I know how much my friends make lol and its prob way more than they allow.

I am sooooo happy everyone seems to be high and dry with little damage!

My brother fared well and his electricity, which was said to take up to 3 weeks for power, came back on today!!
Since he is working his tail off 24/7, it seems, his wife and 2DD's came to her moms, right ariound the corner from us.

We are home as of about 3 hours ago.
We were in Talahassee for 3 nights and hoped to come home. But after finding out we had no power until Saturday(via Cleco's site), we headed down to WDW, and stayed at ASmovies for 2 nights and boarded the pups at the EPCOT kennels. I had $208 Disney rewards points that we used for Typhoon Lagoon(Wed) and a few meals and drinks.
We found out we had power on Wednesday night, so we were going to run straight home Thursday, but decided to let traffic go down a bit and wait until Thursday night to head back to Tallahassee and head home on Friday. So DH:love: , told me to bring the DD's to 1 of the parks and be back by 5pm and we'd head out. We had NO plans of going to a park since there is so much fun stuff to do outside the parks in WDW too.
After a day in MK, we headed out and got here today. House has minor damage(may have already said) but nothing to complain about.

We are all here, we are all safe, we are all thankful!

Oh and I did cancel our cruise next December and am hoping for free dining in Sept '09. You all sure do pick a great month to go there. The crowds were NICE.

We'll see, job and life pending...

Lori

I am so glad everyone is ok. but ya'll - I can't even get myself to unpack because the track for Ike brings it right into the gulf....as a 3 or a 4....I tell you - my wallet, my nerves and my cars can't make another trek....:sad2:

this little guy keeps trying to say "the margin of error is great"....uh ...

I know what you mean.

Good morning ladies.

Well I'm jumping back into real life today. Fall baseball starts up for Colin. My weekends for the next couple of months will be spent at the ballpark (and I love it). I think it's good for the kids to get out and play so they don't see us (well me) focusing so much on the TV and where the next hurricane is going. I'm crossing my fingers that Ike will spare us.

I don't think any of us in Louisiana could handle another one just one week later. Let's get those prayers started!

Lori what a great surprise for the girls with a quick trip to Disney. ::MickeyMo I agree that there is so much to do without even going to any parks.
