Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

I'm sitting here with a headache trying to decide what to do about the storm. For those of you who made reservations already what days did you make them for? :confused3 I'm trying not to worry but oh it's so hard not to.

Hi Allyson I'm Tricia from Mandeville.

Tricia, I know how you feel. I made mine for Sunday for 2 nights. Then I got to thinking about it and tried to extend it to 6 nights, just in case. No luck. If you can make a reservation make it for a week if you can, you can always cancel the extra days. I'm worrying right with ya my friend.

Yeah, I am sure they will, I just was SUPRISED to see the battery stand thingy empty.

I think Jack is funny and I am sure his teacher had something to talk about at dinner! She probably thought it was hilarious. Maybe she'll have vivid memories of it down the road!

DH just called and he said he's gonna book somewhere, but he was confused about where. He said 2 models had it going to Mexico, 2 to the panhandle and a few coming this way. "which way do we go, which way do we go.....". And heck , he didn't say what nights either.

I think we should sit tight and just prepare, calmly as we can.

OMG I may be giving out KIDS here soon! My 2 are soooooo catty to each other sometimes... as in right now:headache: . They usually get along great, but when it's bad, it is BAD:mad:  . I call them Cinderella's stepsisters when they act like this-Drusilla and Anastasia.

Lorie, I think I got the same cold you and Sienna had last week. I started with it this morning, or late late last night!

Just checking in. My BIL just called from North Carolina and said we are welcome to drive up there...long drive, but at least we can see my very pregnant SIL...lol.

I just feel blessed that this time around DH and I have secure jobs. Dh gets paid even if we have to evacuate, and I can be an instuctor at any Michael's...God forbid.

So my tentative plan is if it heads this way but it isn't too big, we will be in Pine(1 1/2 hours north of the lake) and if it seems worse...then it is to Arkansas or North Carolina to stay with family.

PINE?? I was born in Bogalusa! Small world...........

Welcome Allyson! Yes lol Jack is def a hoot.. im not sure his teacher is thinking that today though after he "fired" her!

Wow Lori.. no batteries huh? Well im sure they will be restocking soon, I can see Walmart headquarters is rolling out those big trucks right now lol. I watched a show about Walmart and they stay super in tuned to these storm and those trucks start moving out the second there is a hint of a storm.

Thanks for the welcome! I am a teacher and I would have a hard time not laughing if some kid "fired" me! LOL!

I grew up in Denham Springs and graduated from DSHS back in the 80s! It sure has grown since I left there in the 90s.

My DH just called me from Columbus and is telling me to fill our "hurricane box". Lori

What is in your hurricane box? I went to WM today and got water, bread, batteries, snack food, etc. There weren't that many people but you better get there soon.

I cant imagine how scary this is for yall.
Yes it really is scary....:sad2: DD is starting to stress really bad. I had to tell her it may come this way.

Here's the story....The buyers qualified and were told the APR and were assured it would be locked in, well, the financial institution is accepting blame here for not locking in the rate and buyer gets deposit back. ONLY to me, would this happen.:sad2:
I am really sorry Kathy.

Hey ya'll....Checking in too. We're due to fly in tomorrow if the FAA gets their computers up and working again!

Looks like we're packing up what I can't bear to lose to bring back up here to MI with us. Right now we're due to fly out Tuesday AM. I'm wondering if I should move that up to Sunday or Monday.:confused3

Sheryl- we just stayed at the Staybridge Suites in Lake Buena Vista. It was really nice. It's in the Holiday Inn family. I think their cancellation policy is 24 hrs. And it has living room/bedroom/full kitchen.

state is evacuating people by air and rail starting Saturday depending on the track..you might want to move it up dear.

hey all - sorry TigerKat about all the problems with the house....

and I am so freaking out right now with this storm. thinking about the Orlando thing also. I have so much this week to do and don't want to do anything - just want to run. scared as hell because we are back in debt as bad as we were when the other one hit....and I don't think we are coming back. It is all I can do to keep from crying....

and welcome to Allyson. and the kid firing his teacher is funny!

positive thing is we have a Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise booked for 11/24.:cool1: with 2 other families all having birthdays.

Kristina:hug: - I feel the same. I have so much on my plate right now and this hurricane is pushing me over the edge. As far as debt, we have some from when Ashton was sick and I had to quit a pretty lucrative job, but DH salary can handle all of it except some grocery and any extra stuff we do-so I work PRN and was really regular until recently and now I am stressing. On top of that , as I have vented in the recent past, my house has needed much fixin' and this has put us over the top again. If a hurricane comes this way, well, yuck and bad for the checkbook and CC.:headache:

We are needing to re-evaluate finances when he gets home. When Ashton was on chemo, the world stopped, but unfortunately, the bills did not, and so we deal with that as well.

We are hoping and praying his new job(whatever and wherever it lands us) can cover our monthly losses. I am looking for weekend call work.

I am frustrated not to have a better handle on things as in the past few years(this year is killing us financially), but am ever thankful that DH is on board with homeschooling ,etc and having me home as much as we can handle it. He is adamant that it has been a good thing for our family. I am willing to go back F/T, but he says we'd all be miserable and it isn't worth it. Hey, it's not like we don't enjoy a vacation now and then, but I am seeing that fade at this time for a while. I may have to cancel our cruise for Dec '09, but it is so far off, I will wait and hang on as long as I can!!!

Lori

BTW- aleve D kept me up all night and on top of that my toilet won't shut up. I am so aggravated that I could lift the whole da-- thing and throw it outside. How do you make a toilet stop "running"? The bowl is full, the tank is full, why is it making this annoying running noise?????

Good Morning all!

Off to meet Jack's teacher and Principal this am.
Should be interesting lol.

I am then going to go shopping to pick up a few items to beat the possible rush. I need batteries regardless, so Ill get them now and then wait to pick up food and such. I may pick up another battery powered fan, i think I have two right now.

Good morning! Have fun in the principal's office, LOL!

As I said before, I am a kindergarten teacher at a private school here in Slidell. We had our parent meeting last night and today starts our meet and greets where the kids can drop off school supplies and meet the teacher, see the room, locate their cubbies, etc.

FIL is coming to stay at the house today to meet the plumber who is coming to unstop my sink, dishwasher and bathtub. This plumbing has never been right since Katrina. We flooded and had to do the house all over again. Also I dont think enough (or any) insulation was put into the walls cause I have never had electricity bills this high! I know everything is going up but darn it! $230 last month is too much for my house!

Do any of you have pets? Do you take them when you evacuate? I have never evacuated with pets before. During Katrina we didnt have any and not we have 2 cats.

Have a nice day and pray that Gustav takes a big turn!!

Yes, we have 2 doxies(the 1st one we got the week before Katrina) now and we usually head to a Homewood Suites, most of which take pets, but not all.

We are watching/feeding our friends 3 cats (at thier home)and I don't know what we will do about them. Thier owners are out of town and DH is very allergic to cats. I may have to call another friend to see if she'll take them for us. Otherwise, we'd bring them along. DH would be having asthma attacks if they came with us.

Lori- Is it running (like lots of water / still flushing) or just a constant dripping into the bowl? If it's the 1st - check inside the tank to see if the chain that pulls up the flap is getting caught. If the flap doesn't close all the way, the water continues to run into the bowl. Just adjust the chain. If it sounds like the 2nd, then the flap that covers the hole in the tank might not be making a good seal. Both are pretty easy things to change / repair. We've had to do both because, for some reason, toilet parts just don't hold up with our water.

Looks like my bosses are planning for Gustav - just got word that we're working Saturday to clear out any remaining finished product inventory. All product has to be shipped to our main refrigerated warehouse. UGH! The perma-knot in my stomach is back.

 to all of you having to make the evacuation decisions. It sounds like y'all have got it under control. Something that helped me when I was looking for last minute supplies....stay away from the big stores (you know Wally World is going to be a zoo!) and try hitting CVS, Walgreens, the dollar stores -places that fewer people frequent.

Jen - "you're fired!"....oh, my! :rotfl: Here's hoping the teacher has a sense of humor! Good luck with the meeting today.
