Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

:cheer2: Louisiana Knights win their first game of the World Series 12-7!!! Kyle pitched 5 innings, coach pulled him when the score was 8-3, wants to save his arm in case they fall into the loser's bracket.:confused3

He's just making a strategic move in case he needs him to pull out a win!

:woohoo: Way to go Kyle. Kathy how long are they in Cincinnati?

They'll be back either Sunday or Monday depending on how far they make it.

I've been meaning to mention to you that Kyle spends so much more time on the Northshore than on the Southshore. The Knights are based in Mandeville and all of the players except for 3 live on the Northshore. He's made some awesome friends from your neck of the woods.:goodvibes

Lori - hope you have your sweet little girl in the house today (as opposed to the homonal one who sometimes takes control)!!:) :) :) :)

Kathy - I love to hear about Kyle and his travels. That 3 hour wrong turn! One time I was picking a friend up at the Newark, NJ airport. It was about an hour drive home but I got totally lost and it took about 3 hours to get home - it was at least 1 am. I never told her that I was lost (she was kind of a worrier). The next morning she told me that she would never have asked me to pick her up if she's known that it was so far. I confessed then that I'd been lost.

We are looking for a senior apartment for my dad. My brother was here, and we all discussed it. Dad's biggest complain is his sinus drainage. Yes the man had a stroke and a horrible urinary tract infection - none of that phases him but he's worried about some drainage.

I've made some wrong turns in my life too, but this was a chartered bus driver, for heaven's sake. Those boys (young men I should say) were livid.

Any ideas what type of facility you're looking at for Dad? That sounds so much like my dad, worrying about the drainage....;)

I remember coming home for Thanksgiving during my College Program in 2001. I rode home with my grandparents(who came over to see me) and was going to fly back. Well I dozed off in the car and woke up and I didn't recognize the road we were on...which as you all know there are only I-10, I-75, I-4, and the turnpike! So I look around and I asked my grandfather why we were in Georgia! He forgot to take I-10 from I-75! LOL

Hey Lori & Rick,

Bob & I got a real kick out of the podcasts this past week! We of course take offense at even the mention of AA meetings! These non-drinkers on the podcast, (except our LA pals Corey & Julie) really cause me to question their opinions on everything else! I mean, how can I now trust Kevin's rest reviews, the man doesn't drink????
I really think Corey & Julie are going to need your help to do any kind of drinking around the world reviews! Anyway congrats again on the free 7 day tickets! But hearing about our friends on the podcasts made that a lot more fun too! So glad that y'all won a freebie week!

In fact, You & Rick need to give us the downlow on all your bar info! A sake bar in the back of the store! We are so clueless!!! Can't wait to see y'all again in Oct.! Uh maybe we'll get together & do just a little drinking!

Good Morning NOLA.

First day this week I didn't have to wake up to an alarm. I still got up at 6:45 but it makes a difference when you wake up on your own. Today I have to help Kendall pack for Cheer Camp. :cheer2: She is so excited and I'm thrilled for her. I have to admit that I'm really going to miss her. :sad1: She's never gone away to camp before. We're meeting at Target tomorrow at 8:15 and will caravan the girls to the College.

Did I mention we are going on vacation next week? Gulf Shores here we come.

Let's see if I can get the multi quote to work this morning.
I'm kind of down today as I found out the total to fix my car- $1000!! :faint:  But it has to be fixed, so there it is. Ugh. Our trip is still on- it is a quest now!
It's always something. I was hoping to start spending some $ on updating our kitchen (change out some of the decor, replace the dated hardware), but then I realized the car is due for a brake job. I'm hoping it's only the front brakes, but I have a gut feeling it's going to be the whole she-bang. I know spending that $$ is necessary to keep us safe, but I'd much rather spend it on something I could see & enjoy!

I found more info on our local markets.
Thanks, cajunmommy! They do have one poultry/meat vendor at the German Coast Markets in Luling & Destrehan! Now I just have to get there!
Hope this works! If the River Road markets don't pan out, try linking to the Red Stick Farmer's Market site. They should have a contact listed there for the vendor that comes to BR. If he's like most other vendors that hit the Farmer's Market circuit, I bet he comes closer to your direction.

GO Knights! GO Kyle! :cheer2: When's their next game? Are they getting to do any sightseeing while waiting?

Did I mention we are going on vacation next week? Gulf Shores here we come.

We've got a beach weekend planned just before school starts too! Can you do some "research" and let me know if there are any new restaurants (or undiscovered gems) we need to visit?

You'd THINK, nowadays, for something like this- they'd have a GPS thingy!

Hey y'all!

I woke up this morning feeling awful! I just ate some soup and took some vitamins, hopefully it will help. Just started the sweats....

TriciaII- I just read this morning that the Pontchartrain Hotel is being turned into apartments for seniors. Your dad could be living in style! ;)

Kathy- Congrats to Kyle! :cheer2:

I posted yesterday but got lost in school stuff and forgot to submit it!

Anyway, thanks Lorie, cancer taught us something!! I learned way too much and it made me a bit nutty. I though everything would just kill us/her. Not to mention that we were/sometimes still are, targets for the "next best thing that will cure cancer". I admit to trying ONE really crazy thing that I cannot even remember what it was called, but it was a desperate mom fighting for her dying little girls life, that recommended it, and I caved for her sorrow and friendship. But i cried all the way home(from the westbank to the northshore at 10pm!) b/c the people administering the 'test' told me Ashton still had cancer in her body(this was when we were about a year away from finishing chemo and she was in remission) and we needed to get her on $500 worth of herbs and vitamins. :scared1: Uh, I called my DH , in desperation, and he ,thankfully, had HIS brain connected to his heart and said, "uh, we do enough, no, and what do you REALLY beleive?" and it whipped me back into shape.
I so wanted to validate my friend, who was losing her baby girl, who was 6, by just putting the $500 on a CC so she knew I believed with her, but we couldn't and thankfully, didn't.
Well, I guess now, looking back, those people were crazy to me. My friend did lose her child to rhabdomyosarcoma a few months later after a LONG and BITTER battle.

When Ashton was just 3, she told me her cancer was gone for her mommy-2x. My DH decided to beleive her COMPLETELY and I need to "see" numbers-I guess it is the medical background. I wanted to beleive her, but when numbers did not point correctly, I caved. I LOVED those words from her mouth, but had a hard time digesting them-for years.

:crazy2: Now you know why i am kooky!!!:flower3:

DH comes home from work with tons of stories about customers who are currently dealing with cancer or are cancer survivors who are doing what you described. They are looking to better their nutritional habits any way they can. Depending on the type of cancer, some have very restricted diets and are totally overwhelmed with dealing with the nutritional lifestyle change. He tries to help them find foods that they can eat the best that he can, but he says he doesn't know how some of them do it.

We have lots of debt from when she was sick and I am SURE that is a good bit of it, plus loss of a really good income. So more bills, less money!!! Owell, I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Lori

BTW- CONGRATS to Kyle!!!

As a Mom & a Nana to two of the female persuasion, (I swear Alexis already 5 going on 15!) I totally give you permission to vent away!!! When my DD started with it, some of the saddest most melancholy times of my life.

Lori, can you give me a quick rundown of the foods you avoided giving Ashley. Alexis's mom was also only 10 when it happened, so I can assume it could be that early with Alexis. We've just been buying organic milk & eggs, what other things have you stayed away from. I mean we'd all watch the meat, but there are other bills that have to be paid.

see I am concerned about that with Grayce also. I was almost 12 but she seems so advanced in many other ways. I am enjoying the "mom I love you - you're the best!" and dreading the start of the "I hate you - you don't understand!"

so vent away - I'll be with you shortly!

SO I am feeling the pull to eat healthier! Thankfully, Ashton had gotten used to eating semi healthy and hates fast food and either wants Subway or makes me cook!

Lori

yeah G likes Subway, which tickles me and i don't mind indulging that - she is also a chicken nugget freak.

NOT rude at all, hope you're feeling better today.:goodvibes

Lori - I wish I could comment but I have NO experience with girl stuff so I can't help at all, boys are a whole other kind of monster.;)

I am - having a lot of physical anxiety (feels like warm/hot water coursing through arms and chest) and is just uncomfortable....

yesterday was 14 year anniversary and kind of in a funk...but a little better today

will be on the bestbank Saturday for a swim party for dd :cool1:

I don't know if either of you have the freezer space, but have y'all tried the local Farmers' Markets for chicken & beef? I know the BR market has had someone who raises free-range chicken, and I'm fairly certain they also have someone selling beef. Getting a half- or quarter-calf would probably be cheaper in the long run than Whole Foods. Of course, you'd lose some convenience, but it might be worth checking out.

Have to agree with Kathy....I'm glad I don't have to deal with the drama (I am one of 3 girls, so been there, done that), but I have a feeling my boys will be bringing home their own special problems soon enough! Hang in there, Lori.

so where is this Farmer's Market I keep hearing about? and do they accept debit cards or checks? I just rarely have cash and hate going to the bank..
