Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Ok ladies I need your help!!!

My mom is turning 50 in September. So I am going to throw her a surprise party. Ok so now I need a venue....any ideas? We will have less than 50 people attending(only family and close friends).

I am so tired.

there are some Knights of Columbus and American Legion halls over there. are the bulk of your people on the Westbank? let me know and I can give you some ideas. there is a hall for rent on Causeway & I-10 - not sure if you want to come over here, but I know the people who rent it out. and I own a good DJ !!! (would be my hubby) so I can ask him - he DJ's a lot of venues around here.

When my dad was at Touro I kept going to this bar/restaurant across the street called Park Banquette. They had a big sign up that they did private parties - would even give a free keg (Bud light) if you had 30 people. No rental fees. The food there is very good - at least the poorboys.

It's on Prytania. There a big parking lot next door. I don't know what area you are looking at - but it might give you some ideas of deals you might arrange.

My dad is doing okay - he is still very weak. We were supposed to drive back to Little Rock today but he was too tired to make the trip.

Hello Peeps...I am just checking in briefly to say hello and to let you all know I had a fabulous time at Disney. I will stop by later and report the details.

I´m thinking the real French Quarter sounds like a lot more fun than Disney´s French Quarter, although I´d be willing to try that one out too someday :)

We would probably arrive Wednesday and then leave again on the following Monday, which would give us 4 whole days in NOLA.

I´m thinking maybe:

Day 1: Leisurly stroll around French Quarter. Maybe a streetcar ride into the Garden district.
Day 2: Zoo and Aquarium
Day 3: Drive to some plantations.
Day 4: Sunday Brunch somewhere in French Quarter and ???

How does this sound?

great zoo cruise from the Zoo (free parking)to Aquarium/French Quarter or vice versa....Sunday Jazz Brunches are supposed to be awesome! Arnaud's, Commander's Palace, Court of Two Sisters, Palace Cafe (looks like a dump from the outside but worth it!), Emeril's - lots of the hotels have them....

sorry I thought you were on the Westbank....DH jsut left to take DD to art class....will ask him when he gets back. depends on your budget...but a nice restaurant where you usually go wouldn't necessarily raise suspicion! a lot of places have whole rooms you can rent...to a hall (where you can cater or provide your own food). gosh this is hard...any more specifics about what you are looking for? I automatically gravitate towards least expensive, but depends on the ambiance for which you are looking!

They are! I had my doubts the first time I used them, but I was really pleasantly surprised! Now, they aren't as good as a homemade pot that has been cooking all day, but if you're feeling lazy or are in a rush, they'll do!

Actually I was feeling lazy tonight because I'm just bummed....
For the last two weeks I've been working my butt off (or trying to work this butt off... ) with the Wii Fit and having been doing pilates and walks in the park, and I GAINED two pounds! Not only that, but my body has been feeling so sore in the mornings that I can barely move- I feel like crap! I hope there is some kind of body adjustment period before you actually start losing weight?!

:goodvibes I really haven't tried them in a long time! I grilled some sausage last night for dinner & while we were eating, I asked Bob what he'd want for dinner tonight. He said " This sausage is so good, just give me some bluerunner redbeans with this sausage & I'll be a happy man!" So I didn't want to disappoint my husband!!!! :rotfl:

Kathy, They really are good! I sauteed some onions, a little garlic, added the leftover sausage & a little bit of andouille to them. They are a little salty, so I didn't add any salt to my rice.

Lori, I'll bet you gained muscle! I know I've gained from working out! My DD who is a skinny minny, will actually lose weight when she's not working out. When she starts back, she'll gain 3-5 lbs!
