Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Welcome back Lorie.

Yes I understand your feelings towards DH. I would definately plan for a few days for myself as payback.

I remember those days when DD was having her tantrums.

Later

Yea!!!! Lorie's back..:yay: We missed you. So sorry you had such a bad week, like Sheryl all I can offer is a  and some prayers for patience.

Same to you. So what do you guys do to celebrate?

Well, when DD was young (besides her regular kid-style b-day party) we always went out for Mexican Food & the Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Then the celebrations got too large & out of hand, so we started having big Cinco de Mayo parties at home. I learned how to make a Tres Leches cake & I'd fix enchiladas, fajitas, tacos & of course margarita's & sangria.

But now that she's a married woman, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to parent an adult & not step on my son-in-laws toes too. I had asked DD quite a while back, when she wanted to celebrate & expected to have our regular bash here at home. But she told me her hubby was handling it. :confused3 Well by Wed. he hadn't told us anything. And after calling & emailing he hadn't planned anything! Typical guy! So after some pressure from us, He finally "decided" that she wanted to go out to Bravo on Sat. I'm not sure this is really what she wanted, or not.

I'm planning on calling her in a bit & see if they have anything planned for tonight. If not, I probably throw a quick mexican meal together for her. Believe it or not, she is depressed about being 26!!! Oooh those were the days!

Thanks guys-:flower3:

The battle today so far has been convincing DD that Playdoh is NOT a food group. :sad2: No matter how many times I've told her no, she still insists on eating it. Makes for some interesting diapers...:rolleyes1 . She insists that it is cheese. :confused3 I've never eaten playdoh (that I can recall), but I'm reasonably certain that it does not taste like cheese. I've eaten lots of cheese since I worked in the cheese dept years ago so I know what I'm talking about! :lmao:

No Mother's Day festivities here so far because DH has to work, but I told him I would be happy if he fixed dinner that night (and cleaned up the mess).

 I think I'd either pick up all the play-doh for a while or start making the home-made stuff.

DH tells me we are going out to eat somewhere nice for Mother's Day but they are not telling me where.

So, nobody went to Jazz Fest? With all the rain & mud, we couldn't go. DH"s wheelchair is not made for mud-running! I hear Aaron Neville singing the Randy Newman song "Louisiana" was pretty amazing. I would have loved to have heard that!

Nope too muddy for me. I would have liked to been there yesterday though.

Hey everybody! :wave2:

Sorry I've been MIA- I wasn't banned, but I decided to take a little DIS break after all of the bannings- it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I've been lurking these boards since 2000  and the whole thing just kinda bummed me out.

We've been very busy- DH went to Pensacola for a week for work ( ) and came back a couple of days ago smelling of beach and sand (and getting sand all over my house when he unpacked :headache: ) and complaining how tired he was after that week. Waah, waah, whatever. I'm just a little bitter....:rotfl:

So while he was gone, it was all Sienna, all the time. She has been having some behavioral problems lately, a whole lotta crying and tantrums- a whole lot! It's not so bad that I'm about to call Nanny 911 just yet, but bad enough that I wake up in the morning and just pray that it will be a more peaceful day than the last. Ugh! I need a mommy vacation!

On that note, only four months until our trip- yay!!!!!

I definitely missed this banning incident - probably a good thing.

And I feel ya on the husband dropping sand all over the place - you need to get away for a least a few hours - I think he owes you a spa trip, or at least a pedicure :goodvibes

As far as little Ms Sienna - I agree with Sheryl that it might be time to take the playdoh away for a while.

Believe it or not, she is depressed about being 26!!! Oooh those were the days!

 Jeez - just wait til she hits 30! :rotfl:

I don't do Jazz Fest anymore - just to darn crowded for my tastes.

Thanks guys-:flower3:

DH & I will do something with his Mom. My daughter (all of 18) has given me so much grief the last few months that I don't even want to admit to having kids! :headache: :rolleyes1

Lauri, I feel your pain! We went through some grief ourselves with DD at 18!

I haven't done Jazz Fest in quite a while for that very reason.

 for dealing with DD. If you need to vent, feel free to PM me.:)

Way to go Kyle & team! Give us a wave as y'all are headed thru toward Shreveport!

I agree with Lori - that pic nearly matches my own Jr. prom pic (with future DH)! My dress was that exact same color! Of course, the style wasn't nearly so elegant - taffeta, tea-length poufy skirt, sweetheart neckline....verrrry mid-80's!

Happy Monday everyone!

Sounds like my senior prom dress, but mine was WHITE. And strapless. I could maybe fit a thigh in it now!! I was soooooo small back then. There is a reason we look our best in our teen years!! Scary! But for DH's senior prom, I wore a Jessica McClintock(remember her) it was my FAVORITE-mostly b/c it was very Cinderella-ish- but aqua, and DH wore a white tux with aqua accents, don't remember if he had a vest or cumberbund for that one-but it was aqua!!

I am glad i missed the bans too...

Welcome back Lorie-Things will get better with her. I would put anything away that my kids used that became a battle regualrly, Then I'd pull it back out a couple months later and they were happy to have it back, without the battle, usually. If the battle ensued, I'd take it back again until I felt they were mature enough to handle it correctly. Even though plahdoh seems to be harmless to eat, it's the dye I'd be concerned about above all-and safety comes first. Give her something else to play with in her hands-like a deep pan/crawfish plate full of cornmeal or grits.Outside if possible!! Those huge crawfish plates come in very handy for gooey and messy materials. We still use them for the volcanoes. My kids STILL play with plah doh and clay. She can draw pictures or whatever in the grits. We even used it for learning letters-drew them in the grits/cornmeal.

Just my 2 cents advice to take or leave. Good luck!

My kids are taking SAT's this week. Haley told me she got everything right today! This can be REALLY great, or devastatingly BAD!!! But i thought it funny she came out of it and said this.
One more week of school after this!!

Lori

Hey everyone, my computer had a virus or bug. My DH restored it, but disboards didn't recognize my name. It took my two kids to help me get back on here. Now I have to go back and catch up on the stuff I missed. Its been about 1 1/2 weeks since the "bug" thing happened. I hated not being able to "talk" with all of you.

I hope everyone has a good night:)

So glad to have you back, we really missed you.

Thanks for all of the comments about the cake.

Shovan- The bow was made out of Fondant(the stuff that covers wedding cake) it was Wilton's brand and so hard to work with. Thankfully, I now know how to make my own and it comes out better! Oh and I turn 26 in August and I am not upset at all!

Kathy-Congrats to Kyle, I know you must be so proud, good luck.

Lorie- First of all  Second, I can so understand what you are going through. Aiden has been so moody. I agree that I wake up everyday and pray that I don't have to fight him! Kurt jr never tried to eat play-dough but he still isn't allowed crayons, for two reasons. He found a small hole in the dry wall(where the door knob hits the wall, well he thinks that it is just hysterical to put crayons down this hole. Every time he gets his crayon privileges back I catch him doing this again. The other thing is he loves to break them in half on purpose and tell me he needs new ones

I checked the irs website and we should receive our stimulus check by friday. It is going straight into the savings to pay for our disney trip.

Speaking of...
I just realized that next year's MG (when we want to go) s the week of President's day...Do yall think we should still aim for that week? I heard it can be really crowded, and we will be paying peak season rates, whereas if we wait 2-3 weeks we can get value rates(I think), but we risk running into Spring Break and we will only get to go for 6-7 days instead of 7-8 days...any thoughts?

If you can wait and get value rates and it would only mean a day or two difference in your length of stay, that's what I'd do!!!!

Good Morning!

No Jazz Fest for me either- it's not in my budget right now since we are saving for a trip. Plus, it's $50 a ticket now, so it would be $100 for DH and I just to get in the gate not counting food and drink! I won't pay that almost on principle because just 10 years ago it only cost $15-20 a ticket!

As far as the playdoh goes, well, at least it's non-toxic! :rotfl: I'm going to try again today with her, but if she sneaks a bite, I'm locking it up for awhile.

Lori- thanks for the suggestions! Really, I'm always looking for ideas for playtime with her because she bores very easily (despite her millions of toys... ) but simple things seem to occupy her the most, so the grits seem like a good idea!

Stephanie- Sienna likes to break her crayons in half too, but she hasn't asked for new ones....yet. I also had to drill in her head the crayons can only be used at the table which she has gotten down pretty good. At first she was running off and coloring the cabinets with them, so I had to nip that in the bud really quick! I also say do your trip during value season. If you go while it's busy, you'll spend so much more time in lines that it may be like losing a day anyway.

Mary- Good to see you again!:wave2:

Good morning.

Kathy, beautiful prom picture!

Lorie, I remember that age very well. When she was 2, my Erica would take her step stool and put herself by the bathroom sink. She would then turn the water on, run her toothbrush over it, then put it in her mouth and suck the water off of it and giggle. She'd do this over and over and over again:confused3 I guess she though she was big because she saw her bigger brother brushing his teeth. If you turned off the water, she would have a fit. Its funny thinking back on it now, but it was nervewracking then. This age can be hard, but you'll probably laugh at it when she gets older and tell her stories about what she used to do.

The grits are a great idea, now you know after you were gone for a while we need a daily Sienna update.......
