Hello ladies I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I start my new walking thing tomorrow. My plan is to load the kids into the stroller and walk to the nearest playground(about 1 mile away). Let the kids play for a while then walk back.

When are we going to do a meet?

Good Monday morning to you all.

It's quite chilly on the North Shore this morning. I think the sweatshirts are going to have to make an appearance today and Colin isn't going to be happy about that.

Morning.

Yes it was quite nippy as I walked across the street to the building from the outdoor parking lot.

Have a good day!

Good morning. It is chilly here in Kenner too. It is 54 degrees outside.

Morning Y'all,

Kathy, Glad you had a nice Senior Day!

I'm really beat, we were in the ER with Alexis again last night. She had continued to run an on & off low fever, intermittent complaints of stomach pain. Chris talked to dr. on Friday, said they thought it was virus. Last night her fever shot up all of a sudden to 102.5 & she was crying with pain.

We took her in, after 2 hours in the waiting room, her fever went back down to 100 without any medicines. :confused3 Then she started getting really upset about being in the RE as she called it, was starting to get a bit hysterical about the idea of them putting in a catheter on her again. By then it's past midnght her fever is down & we still had a long wait before she'd see a dr. Chris decided to take her home & bring her to the dr. this morning. Whe has an appt at 11:00, I'll be going with them.

Please say some prayers that they will figure out what is going on with our girl!

Morning everybody! Boy it sure was chilly this morning.

Kathy - glad Senior day went well. I agree with the others and love the pic of Kyle in your posts!

Sheryl - I really hope they can find out what has little Miss Alexis so sick. It's gotta be scary for all involved. Have they checked out her appendix to see if that could be the problem? Thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Lori - this is prime school visit time for the zoo and aquarium. It really gets crazy at both places especially in the mornings. Hope Sienna had a good time anyways!

HAve a good day all!!

Sheryl - and prayers for you all, especially Miss Alexis. Hopoefully they will find out what's going on and it will be nothing serious. Please keep us posted.

Lauri - Thanks!!!

OMG, the OFFICIAL results of Ashtons leukemia chemo protocol are out and they are FABULOUS and I had to share.
You know how all cancer treatment protocols are experiments, since there is no cure. So the results of them take a while to come out. The study started way back in 1997 or '99 and ended in 2003. Then they had to wait to see how the kids that were on it faired. Up till 5 years out from dx. The powers that be at John Hopkins did further testing on the kids and did not give the info to the oncologists or patients-ha! It was something I asked our onc to do, but she said Children's didn't do it and it was too late anyway. They did it anyway for experimental purposes! Kind of aggravating something was done on my childs labs w/out me knowing-but I probably signed consent for it.
Anyway, the results are that she REALLY had a 91-95% chance of beating it. We were told 80-85%. Sounds good huh? But not when it is your kid. If they had these results to tell me back then, maybe we WOULD have felt a tad bit better. It still is not perfect and this is for a VERY specific TYPE of leukemia. Not all kids with ALL have this good of chances. For me, it is a God thing that she had the specific genetics. Out of 3,000 kids, only 12% fit this specific type leukemia. But of that 12%(360), the odds were in thier favor to a great extent. But it still means about 26 kids relapsed or died. Not too mention all the other more dangerous types of leukemia.

I am just happy that Ashton could contribute to the research-now kids with the same specific type ALL can hear those wonderful stats-not that I EVER relied on them:laughing: -so much can happen-or not happen when chemo is in your life. In your kid.

Well, like I needed to know this-I have proof in front of me! I just think it is a huge step-in 2000, there was a 80-85% chance for her specific type to be cured, now, only 8 years later, it is >90%!!!

Sorry for ramblin' I just think all this cancer research study crap is cool-hard to read, but cool!:surfweb:

Oh, and 14 more days of school for us!!!!!:woohoo:

Lori

Hey y'all!

We had a busy weekend, so I haven't been around. What is up with this weather?! DH made gumbo this weekend for "the cold snap" (any excuse to make gumbo... ) and I made lemon chicken, orzo & spinach soup today for the rest of the days of this cool front.

Oh and Sienna had a blast at the zoo! She loves nothing more than working a crowd, the more the merrier....me, not so much! I hate crowds! But what was worse than the crowds were the STINGING CATERPILLARS!!!:scared1: They were EVERYWHERE, all over the ground, the handrails, the exhibits, etc. There were quite a few children crying that had gotten stung. I think we left more because of that than the crowds!

Kathy- I'm glad the pork roast came out okay, and I was lurking on the WFD thread :tiptoe: and saw your question about the rest of the pork roast. I do the exact same thing- whatever pork I didn't use I make into BBQ pork by just dumping some bbq sauce into the crock pot with the pork (my favorite is Annie's Smoky Maple BBQ Sauce for this- yum!). 1st night I do BBQ pork over butter noodles and the 2nd day I do bbq pork sandwiches. And that is SO COOL that Kyle made to the nola.com front page! :cheer2:

Stephanie- Good luck with walking tomorrow! I need to get more consistent with my walking routine. I do pretty much the same as you- I put DD in the stroller and walk City Park and stop at the playground if she's good in the stroller as her reward.

Sheryl- Sorry to hear about Alexis and I hope they find out what is wrong- poor baby!

Lori- I'm glad you got those results and I'm sure it is so reassuring to hear them, even though you couldn't get them earlier on.

That is awesome Lori, thanks for sharing the great results with us!!

It was better than OK - it got :thumbsup2 from all!!!!! I especially loved the potatoes. The problem I have with leftovers is that my guys won't eat anything two or three days in a row no matter how much I change it up. The roast I made was huge (almost 8 lbs) so there's a ton leftover. I'm going to have to divide it into two batches and freeze it.

You need to come out of lurkdom over there(WFD) and join us.:)

I am glad you said this about the zoo, Lorie. Our HEA(homechool organization) has a field trip lined up and at a wonderful price($3.25 each) in a couple weeks. Wondering if the caterpillars will have gone by then. I am on the fence about it b/c we have so much going on and the zoo trip is the day after testing ends. We have LPO the Friday b/f testing starts, which i though was good! We are going strawberry picking in Holden, La on Thursday- an no pesticide farm that the kids can eat off the bush! I am going to need some strawberry recipes from you! I'd love to know how to make preserves. I may need to google it.
Then we are camping this weekend. Even though it is something we try to do once a year anyway, HEA planned a homeschool wide campout this weekend. So we will be with friends. I just don't want all the activity-I wanna sit in my hammock and read! No phone, no TV, no laptop. Just a radio, books, a campfire and our family.

Thanks-Lori

Hey Y'all,

Lori, That is wonderful news about the chemo protocol results!!! Just too bad you didn't know this when she had to go through it.

Well, Alexis saw a diff. pediatrician today, who didn't dismiss it has a virus. We're glad she ran a battery of test even though putting her through it was awful. When they took blood, she was crying "Nana, help me!" :sad1:

She had x-rays, blood & urine taken. They found high white blood cell count again . Dr.Shourbaji just called Chris with some of the results, her blood sed. rate was also high, which also indicates infection somewhere. Even though the preliminary urine test looked ok, she is running cultures on her urine, looking (& hoping) for a bladder infection. We won't have the results on that until tom. afternoon.

If that doesn't come back positive for infection, she'll have to have ultrasounds/cat scans, looking for either appendicitis or something worse. We are really praying that it's just a bladder infection.

We're also more than P.O.'d that when she was in the ER 2 weeks ago & put the poor child through being catheterized that they didn't send it for cultures!

Sheryl, as I said on the WFD thread, I, too will be praying that it's a bladder infection.

ETA: You must be exhausted, please get some rest & take care of yourself.

Thanks Kathy, I'm doing more worrying than resting! After having time to do "net" research, I'm really wondering why the dr. didn't do an ultrasound on her today. The symptoms sure do sound like appendicitis to me.:confused3

I was thinking the same thing. When Kyle went to the ER that's the first thing they did to rule out appendicitis.
