Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Thanks for the reply! We're on the very edge of EBR parish almost in Ascension so it would only be about 35 miles or so to Reserve. Our problem is that anything in FIL's price range here in Baton Rouge is a dump! The better ones are far, far beyond our income. This is the closest Veteran's home to us and looks quite nice for $1500/month. Some of the nicer ones in town run over $5000! That's almost more than FIL's and our incomes combined.

Jennifer

Thanks for all the kind words my friends.:grouphug: I wasn't told the details of the accident last night as my guys knew I was in bad shape already so they kept quiet until today. Kyle's car was spun and landed on a guard rail over a canal, he was literally inches away from ending up in the canal.

Everyone is fine, now we just need to deal with the insurance company.

Kathy, I am so glad Kyle and Johnny are okay. How are you holding up? That was hard new to hear:hug:

Oh man! :scared1: Were they both in the car? Neither one is hurting?

I'm OK, it's almost like I'm just waiting for today's dose of bad news.:sad2:

Johnny was following Kyle so he saw the whole thing unfold, thank God it wasn't me. Kyle is perfectly fine, thanks for asking.

Jennifer, Those prices are crazy!:sad2: I understood that after the patient's savings were gone, some of the homes had to accept the patient's SS income as total payment.

Oh my goodness! Johnny must have been scared to death. Glad it wasn't you!

OMG! I can't believe it. How scary - thank goodness Kyle is ok. And poor Johnny having to watch the whole thing. Tell both of them I am glad they are ok and I am thinking of them (and you, my friend!).

Thanks so much my friends:grouphug: , it has been a really rough week so far. I couldn't even go to his ballgame tonight because I had so much work I brought home. He's scheduled to pitch tomorrow and I'll be there for sure!

Sheryl, I hope you're feeling better. I haven't had time to catch up here or on the WFD thread so I'm sorry if I missed anyone.

TGIF :cool1:

I heard them say we will probably be in the low 80's today. Bye bye spring and hello summer.

I didn't check in yesterday because I was puking again. I have to assume this is a new spin with my IBS, it's happening too often lately to just be viruses. I'll have to make another dr. appt with the gastro, I guess. Don't want to, cus I know the 1st thing they'll want to do! A colonoscopy. :sad2:

Weird thing I just learned, that a symptom of fibromyalgia is IBS. Weird, uh? I had no idea that my two illnesses had anything to do with the other.

OK, young lady, if your daughter hasn't already wagged her finger in your direction, I will. Get thee to a doctor & have that colonoscopy. I know the thought is horrid, but you need to take care of yourself. Paula Deen, Jr. needs her Nana! Sorry if I'm a bit preachy, but I just found out that one of my close co-workers was given 18-36mos to live. Prostate cancer that has metatasized (sp?) to his bones. PSA test - never had one. I could just scream. I saw my DH's grandfather die from the exact same thing, and I know that one simple little test would have changed everything. OK, jumping off the soap box now.

Hi New Orleans Dissers!

I was hoping someone here could give me some info. We're considering admitting my FIL to the Alzheimer's ward of the Louisiana War Veteran's Home in Reserve. Do any of y'all happen to have any experience with this nursing home? We chose it because it looks like the best option that we can afford and I'd love to hear from anyone who has had a loved one here.

Thanks!

Jennifer

Jennifer - Hi neighbor! I saw your other thread. I wish I could give some concrete advice for this tough situation. I know you're wanting to uphold the "taking care of your own" tradition in the way you've been raised, and I think you're doing just that by giving your FIL the best care from people who are trained to deal with this awful disease. BTW, as a positive, the drive to Reserve is easier than trying to get to one of the homes in BR with all that traffic! Take care.

:scared1: Thank goodness Johnny was there! It's Friday - enjoy Kyle's game, have a cocktail, and stop looking over your shoulder for that next black cloud.

Happy Friday everyone. I'm afraid my house will be like this  for the next couple of days. DH has the flu, & DS#1 is running fever. I need to quarantine both of them.

Good morning NOLA! Waiting on the insurance adjuster right now, then off to run some errands. Have a great day.

OOOkaaaay Mom! :rolleyes2  I'm going to the rheumatologist on Tues, I'm going to talk to him about the IBS, I didn't even know the two things were related. I actually had a colonoscopy 7 years ago. When I saw the gastro's PA last year, she said for my age, I actually wouldn't need another one until 10 years out. BUT if I continue to have problems that aren't controlled, then they would have to go take a look. I was really hoping to push it to the 10 yr mark, but I guess that ain't gonna happen. I"m sure the rheum doc is going to tell me to get to the gastro doc!:sad2:

I really appreciate your concern! Thanks!

Hope everyone has a good day! I'm forcing myself to get out of here & go get my hair colored. I've missed my last 2 appts! The gray roots have gone from annoying to downright frightening!:scared1: ;)

Sheryl - I certainly can't preach about going to the Dr.:rolleyes1 , so I'll just say I'm glad you are going and I hope everything turns out OK.

Hey y'all! Spring is officially here because my tortoise Tortimer came out of hibernation yesterday. Some people use Phil the groundhog for their spring predictions, I use my tortoise.

Busy, busy over here- Sienna's birthday is next week! The big 2! So I've been out buying her presents and figuring out what to do for her b-day. We're going to do a small get together and I'm thinking about getting po'boy loaves from Parkway Bakery and a cake from Haydel's- I'm being lazy! :rotfl: And of course some Abita and Dixie beer. ;)

We took MIL to see her house yesterday. They started rebuilding it last week (after all of this time post-K!) and it is going along very quickly. Hopefully she'll be back in by early July. She's so happy to finally get back in her own house- and it is going to be better than it was before! She'll have closets for the first time!

And Sienna got her first bee sting. :guilty: We were at City Park playground when I heard her start crying and then yell "A BEE!!!", so I ran over and she showed me her finger which still had the stinger in it and had started to swell. Poor thing. At least she is not allergic- I was really worried about that.

Kathy- I'm so glad Kyle is ok!! And poor you! My DH withholds scary info from me too sometimes because he knows how I'll react. I hope that dark cloud goes away so you have some sunny skies soon!

Sheryl- I hope you're feeling better soon. I can't lecture because I'm really bad about going to the doctor too. :rolleyes1

Have a good weekend everyone!

Oh wow, I get a virus for a few days and come back to so much!

Kathy, oh my! I hope Kyle is OK. Please watch him closely because some injuries can take a few days after an accident to show up.

Sheryl, I hope you feel better.

Terry, I hope you are OK.

I finished my first cake decorating assignment. We had to bake a character cake(one of the preformed pans) and decorate it per the instructions. I chose a race car...

The cake looks great! Where are you taking classes? I was thinking about taking one...then I won't have to buy Haydel's cakes anymore!
