Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

.Afternoon Y'all,

Not much going on here today. I have a drs appt late this afternoon. We're staying out of the pool today, do to my sunscreen rash

kmores, Glad you're head is a little better.

I guess the insectarium is something I should take A to see. But just the idea of walking through all those bugs sort of freaks me out! I'll wait to hear y'all reviews on that!

Y'all try to stay cool!

Hopefully your rash is better this evening.

On the insectarium - I am SO HAPPY Kyle is old enough to take himself if he is so inclined.:rotfl2:

hey hope your rash is better....

DD is going to karate at dh's school for the third time this week. I was kind of sad cause she has been gone every nite I came home from work...but hey - then I thought....6 hours alone?? woo hoo!! now if I just had some bon bons... :cool1: no car tonite though - in the shop

Good morning and happy Friday! :cool1:

This is the only day this week with no cheer practice or some place to go and I'm sitting here before 6 AM. :worried: I guess I'm just not a late sleeper.

kmores glad your head feels better. Hopefully today will be headache free.

Good morning NOLA!

I HATE car shopping and that's what we'll be doing today. At least I know what I want, I just hate the price haggling....

We'll be spending most of our weekend on the Northshore as Kyle has games there tonight, tomorrow night and Sunday!

Car shopping....I was ready to give mine away this morning. Battery died with no warning. :furious: Despite turning this morning's finely tuned schedule upside down, it could've stranded me @ the ball park last night, so I guess I shouldn't complain too loudly. Believe me, I was ready for a drink @ 7:30 this morning! Hope all of you had a better morning than I did!

Happy Friday everyone...have a great weekend!

Anybody hear from lucas yet? I know she was headed this direction for a wedding soon.

Hey y'all,

Tricia, Hope you're taking advantage of the rest of your day off!

Kathy, Good luck car shopping! I've always hated the car buying haggling too.

My rash is better, I'm just annoyed that I'm going to have to make another dr's appt just to find a suncreen that I can use.

We went out for dinner last night at Pupuseria on Lafayette. I can't ever pass up the honduran platter with pupusa, tamale & meat pie, yummy.

Hope everyone has a good day & good weekend!

Hey y'all!

Just back from the Insectarium! We were there for the opening of the doors...:rotfl:

We rode the streetcar down, which was fun. The line to get into the Insectarium was long and wrapped all the way around the building- it was CROWDED!!!! They had bug "characters" outside walking around entertaining the kids (Sienna loved those!). My take on the Insectarium is that it is very tame, so if you're afraid of bugs, you'll be ok. It was really cool, but a bit smaller than I imagined it would be. They were also still working on some things so they aren't finished quite yet. DH was a little disappointed because he is a bug freak and was looking forward to some bigtime creepy-crawlies, but like I said, it was tame in that regard. No huge live tarantulas or anything scary like that.

The butterfly house was very nice, and it was neat to see how they converted that old building (the Customs House)- it really looked nice. I would say it is not a whole day expedition- probably good to combine it with the Aquarium or Imax if you want a whole day of activities. We were there for an hour, but kind it high-tailed it because it was extremely crowded. I imagine it would be better to visit when there aren't so many people there.

Lori, That is so cool that you can ride the streetcar there. Old time Nawlins experience for sure! :goodvibes I'm glad to hear that Sienna the bug characters! Sorry DH was a little disappointed, but I'm kind of glad to hear that I won't freak. I'm sure the crowds weren't fun, but with your membership you can go back several times.

Oh, you know what? The zoo membership doesn't cover the tickets! You get a discount of $2, so it's $13 a ticket. And I had to buy Sienna a ticket- $8. That one kind of shocked me since she's only 2.

Yeah, the crowds were a drawback, and of course, Sienna started having a meltdown because we were stuck in gridlock inside (she was in her stroller). So I bent down to pick her up out of her stroller to calm her down and a lady behind us said something nasty because we made her wait about 5 seconds. DH got annoyed with rude lady, but I told him ugly people like that aren't even a blip on my radar and to just let it go. Must be nice for her to have perfect children that never make a peep in public.

But yes, we'll try to go again when the crowds die down and it gets cooler- maybe in the fall. Sienna got to buy a stuffed tarantula from the gift shop which made her very happy on the streetcar ride back home. :goodvibes

Oh, and of course our camera decided not to work when we got inside, so I didn't get any pictures! Of course it started working fine once we got back home.

Kathy what kind of car are you shopping for? Before too long we'll be in the market for something for Kelsie. Nothing new but I need to feel comfortable that it is reliable and safe and will last her until she gets out of college (plus the fact that she has two more years until she gets to college). We've never bought a used car before so this will be a learning process for us. We're thinking of something like a Saturn Vue. :confused3

Where is Kyle playing this weekend? We'll be at Pelican Park this weekend for Colin's games. It's such a nice place. I know they have some big fields so I'm just wondering if that's where he'll be.

Lori it sounds like you and Sienna had a fun filled day. Me, I'm not too fond of bugs. :worried: Sorry about the rude lady.

What! Not included in the membership & 8 bucks for a 2 yr old! That's a surprise! I just assumed it would have been included, at least for those with current memberships. Bummer.

And that woman! You're a better person than I am!

I'm sorry your camera didn't work. Why does that always happen? :(

I bought a new Honda CRV specifically because of the safety and reliability marks and ratings it has received. It's also perty..... It's in the same size range as the Vue. Buying used is quite a bit harder IMO because you must have a trusted mechanic or someone else who's very experienced take a good look at it. We found this website pretty useful:

Kyle is playing at Fontainebleau High School all weekend, as you can see I'm not there tonight. I had to take care of financial and insurance matters for the new auto.....I'm also sipping a glass of wine and relaxing a bit.:goodvibes

congrats on the new car!!:moped:

Good morning NOLA.

Kathy congrats on your new car and thanks for the link. It will definitely come in handy when we seriously start looking.

Good Morning!

Kathy- Congrats on the new car! :drive: :car: Enjoy that new car smell! :cloud9:

cool we are going tomorrow! where did you park and how long did it take to get there? and what was the price to ride? I have not ridden in years... glad it isn't too freaky!
We took the Canal streetcar so we just walked to it from my house, which is close by. The fare is $1.25 each way (make sure you have exact change) and it took about 25 minutes to get there (lots of stops with people getting on and off). Have fun!

Morning Y'all,

cajunmommy, Hope your day improves!

Kathy, Congrats on the new CRV!:goodvibes Cute car! But you didn't give us the most important detail, What color is it??! ;)
