Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

tricia, I'm sorry to read the bad news about your friend. One of my friends had breast cancer 2 years ago. She didn't want any attention. Thankfully, she made it through. It was hard however not to be able to do anything for her.

I can't believe I am only just now finding our new home! I have the best of intentions but I can't seem to stay on top of things anymore. Where does the time go to????:confused3 I'd like to say that I'm going to keep up better, but I'm afraid I might be making empty promises. All I can say is that I'll try....hehe.

Hey y'all!

Kristina- :hug: to you. I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. But, like others said, it may be for the best from what you've posted in the past. I also agree to make your own traditions- baking, cooking, watching a specific movie, etc- fun stuff! Know that we are here for you! I've got plenty of Halloween chocolate! ;)

Cara- I hope your DH is doing better- :hug:

Bethany- those old posts are so cute. Funny what can happen in the course of one year, huh?

Tricia- Sorry to hear about your friend. If only I exercised when I got upset- I'd look like a supermodel!

And yeah, I'm joining in the group hug- :grouphug:

It would be hard for me to do NOMA the day before Thanksgiving- that's the day I do all of the cooking! DH also usually works a double that day, so childcare would be iffy too.

DH's interview is tomorrow, so I'm hoping for some pixie dust! :wizard:

In good news, which is really needed right now, I booked our trip today! 9 glorious nights- May 3-12 at All Star Movies with my super discount code. :banana::cool1: We got the QS plan since we're trying to keep it on the cheap this time. Plus, if Erik is anything like Sienna was at that age, TS would be a nightmare! ;) I will still book a few TS meals that we really want, and if we can afford to keep them we will; if not, we'll cancel. I'm just happy to be going at all!

:wizard: Pixie Dust for the interview Lorie!

Bethany, I don't think I am speaking for just myself when I say we are glad you are here and not there.

Tricia, sorry for the bad news today, hopefully tomorrow will be better.

DH isn't getting any worse. Not any better, but not any worse.

I LOVE All Star Movies, love it love it love it(I like it better than POR and POFQ and ALSports and Pop,etc)........ I am so happy that you are able to go in May!!! I still haven't finished my TR, but i planned on saying that we'd never pay for DDP. It was toooooo much for us having a scheduled something every day. But we agreed that the QS plan is more up our alley and add a character meal and a nice meal one night. 9 nights- FABULOUS!
Heck, we'd go to CHH more than once for sure!

I cook too, but was hoping for a lighter load this year.

I am having a small family party for Paul Saturday night (his 40th and the game) and i can hardly wrap my head around that right now. I bought everything except ice for the ice chest and balloons. I am making the cake and putting the Fleur de Tigre on the top- you know , the fleur de lis but with Mike the Tiger in it. Lots of car stickers like it. Wish me an ultimate creative moment as I make the transfer- it is the most tedious one I have ever attempted. i'll take a pic. I am making jambalaya and crawfish pasta- both easy- with spinach salad and that papaya vinaigrette dressing that is served at the Poly luau. My family loves that dressing.

Lori

:grouphug: all around.

Lorie - pixiedust: for your husband. :yay: for making your reservations. I agree with your idea on the dining. QS is the way to go with two little ones.

Jan, glad you found us again!

Cara - thats scary about your poor husband. I hope they have the infection under control and that he gets better soon.

Lori - Good luck with the cake. Sounds like a fun party!

Kristina - :hug: my friend for having to deal with this. I agree with the others that this is probably for the best. And I like the ideas of coming up with new traditions. I hope G continues handling these changes well.

Jamie - :hug: Hang in there, it will get better with time.

I work the day before thanksgiving but am off the day after, so that would work better for me.

Tricia - :hug: for you and your friend. I hope that she allows her friends to visit soon. I would imagine that change happens frequently at a retirement home. I hope your Dad finds a new card partner soon.

Serena - have you recovered from the concert yet?

Bethany - :woohoo: funny posts!

::MinnieMo::MickeyMoHAPPY BIRTHDAY CARA!!!pooh:pluto:

:figment::stitch::goofy:

:tink:Paul,Lori, Ashton and Haley

Cara- Happy Birthday!! :bday:party::cake:

Dh has left for his interview. They told him he pretty much has the job and that the interview is just a formality, but I am still nervous- weird things can happen. It is the same position he had for years before the position he is in now, so it's not like he can't do the job.

We are going to Sesame Street Live tonight- DD is so excited! Me- not so much. :rotfl: Someone please pass the advil.

hope you are having an AWESOME birthday Cara!!!
:wizard:party::jumping1:

Happy birthday Cara!!!!

Lorie have fun with your babies at Sesame street!

Yes my hearing returned lol.

Lorisounds like a nice birthday party.

Have a wonderful birthday Cara!!

Wish I had a piece of birthday cake about now.

I had an infestation of pantry moths right after Dad moved out so I threw out everything not in a can. I used to use Dad as my excuse to buy sweets. So now that I am craving just a little something sweet I have nothing in the house - except a box of powdered sugar. I haven't yet resorted to eating it by the spoonful (yet)!

Last year during Gustav two friends of mine evacuated to my condo as the building is much stronger than their house. I forgot to tell them about my "candy" drawer. A couple of week later they were visiting and I opened it up and offered them something. They were like "Wow wish we'd known about this when staying here."

:thanks::thanks: Thank you for all the birthday wishes! I had a great day except for the part where my 9 year old son welcomed me to the middle ages :rotfl2:

Lorie, I hope that you managed to get through Sesame Street Live. I was going to take Spencer, but decided not to when he wasn't all that excited about it. I figure the money is better spent at Disney, right?

I hope that everyone manages to stay high and dry tonight. Some crazy weather moving through.

Lorie have fun at Sesame Street!

ETA- Cara, I didn't realize that Mickey was a giant!!! You can't miss the greeting though:rotfl:

I was telling someone on Facebook in a chat message that I was great in response to that common "How are you?" question. This is the message I got from Facebook:

You are not permitted to do that.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: FINE then. I'm FINE. :confused3

This morning I was feeling so sad about my friend Susan - latest news just gets worse and worse. An oncologist who used to be head of the Am. Cancer Society told a friend that this is as bad as it gets. He said to go see her sooner rather than later - but Susan does not want us to come. I have to remember it is her choice and her needs out weigh the rest of us.

So I exercised, start feeling better and go have lunch with my dad. The guy my dad played cards with died yesterday - and this little lady that I'd made friends with just had to leave for the nursing home. I guess that is par for the course at a retirement place - but it is un-nerving to me. So back to the exercise bike for me!

:hug: I'm sorry all these things are happening, and all at once too.

Yeah...it's been quite the year!

I'm so excited for you that you are going back to WDW...and for NINE DAYS!! :yay: I had this crazy idea to go for a weekend in March to attempt the Princess Half Marathon (YES...the emphasis is on CRAZY, NOT on "idea" :laughing:) but I don't think it's going to happen.

Bethany, I don't think I am speaking for just myself when I say we are glad you are here and not there.

:goodvibes :grouphug:

Bethany - :woohoo: funny posts!

I was reading them and was laughing so hard. The things I get excited about. :lmao:

Does he know how it went at this point? I hope he gets it since it sounds like this is what will be best for your family. I still can't fathom why they need him to work such long hours in his current position. I understand emergency personnel doing it, but people in retail? :confused3

I love powdered sugar. :rolleyes1

:bday: CARA!!! party:

(At the risk of jinxing things...) this "squall line" or whatever it's called doesn't seem as fierce as they were expecting for over here (I saw a sandbag truck earlier today :scared:) but it looked bad over by Houma....Rie'smom how's it over there for you?

Oh...I got an email from NYC and it says I WAS approved for the grant money (but it doesn't say if it's for the full amount or not :confused3) AND it says that it's supposed to be direct deposited into your bank account tomorrow...IF they have an active direct deposit information on file. I know they HAVE my direct deposit information, I just don't know if it's considered "active" enough for them. :scared: The alternative is to pick it up IN PERSON the week of October 26th. :headache: As frivolous as it sounds, I'm praying it is direct deposited tomorrow! I hope I don't have to take off work to fly up to NYC to pick up the money.

Geez Louise. Well I hope for your sake it does get direct deposited. I'd hate for you to fly to NYC to pick up a check, only to find out it will just cover the cost of travel :eek:

Lorie - I hope you survived Sesame Street.
