Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

i was looking for another thread and found ya'll!

*waves hi!*

i'm in algiers, just got back from disney on sunday (10/4) and excited to find this!

i'm subbin' to the thread so i can keep up!

Welcome to our gang Cassie! glad to have you here! :wizard:

I am still on the antibiotics and my face isnt hurting as much

mary hope you are feeling better soon!

Kat - hope you get that ankle under control soon - how exciting for you and Sheryl's trip soon! (can I stow away with one of you?!?)

Lorie - hope that tooth problem clears up soon!

Sheryl - glad A is feeling better and hope this round of antibiotics work

got to go hang with Bethany last night = wow that doggie is getting big! and Bethany - you should have posted a week ago about the cold weather - just as you posted it rained and got like 20 degrees cooler!:lmao:

Serena - prayers for A for cheerleading!

Julie - how scary but glad it all turned out ok :) and I have my hair highlighted or something - cuts down on the need for color all the time. of course i am not too excited about the two tone effect, but hey gotta do what you gotta do!

Tricia - glad to hear from you! sorry about your friend and all that you are going through but glad u found a new place. I see you on facebook and try to tell ya hey

If I was the tag fairy I would put "Jumps at raccoon battle cries" in the tag.

But I found a 2/2 condo in a great neighborhood that had been on the market for 100 days. I made a low offer and it was accepted after he's countered with $1000 more. I've met several of the neighbors who are very friendly - none of them could believe that this one hadn't sold yet. I truly think that God had this one picked out for me.

It is bittersweet as our third friend (we all went to Newcomb and were roommates in our 20s) is the one with brain cancer. She is very, very ill - plus is having radiation M-F which makes it even worse. How horrible to get the news that you have what is most likely a terminal diagnosis and to think the rest of your days are being spent being miserable.

We can start a campaign. TRICIA FOR TAG FAIRY!! :lmao:

Congratulations on the new home! I hope the moving isn't too difficult and that you enjoy your new place. I am not a fan of moving but I like the fresh start you get in a new spot.

 on the friend with brain cancer. It's extremely difficult to watch someone who has it struggle with it. A friend's (in NY) SIL had it. From diagnosis to the time she passed it was two long, painful years. :sad1: My friend got to the point where it was so painful to watch it that she would almost wish she would pass just so she would no longer be in pain, but then felt an insane amount of guilt for even letting that thought cross her mind. :sad1:I'll be praying for you and your friends to have the strength to get through this, and that the radiation does it's job and she pulls through this.

got to go hang with Bethany last night = wow that doggie is getting big! and Bethany - you should have posted a week ago about the cold weather - just as you posted it rained and got like 20 degrees cooler!:lmao:

:lmao: I KNOW! :rotfl2: I was just thinking that this morning when I took Anabelle out.

She's at the vet again now. She has to stay for a few hours because of her vaccine reaction issues. It feels SO WEIRD to come home and not get greeted by a wiggly fur blur.

Thanks Sheryl. To further clarify - my brother (the very, very wealthy one with multiple homes around the world worth tens of millions) bought this house for my parents (which was very nice of him) about 15 years ago.

About 9 years ago I retired and moved in with my dad (now 88). Since that time I have taken care of all repairs and improvements (lots of money), utilities, etc. About 5 minutes after I got Dad moved into his retirement apartment (which my brother refuses to contribute a penny to) a for sale sign went up in the front yard.

So I have been desperately (but succcessfully) trying to find a place to live. The housing market is very hot here right now - or at least in my price range (< $150,000). I would have an appointment to look at 3 places that just went into MLS and then when we got there 2 would be under contract.

My young friend with MS that went to WDW with me (that I mentioned earlier) is doing great. She's also been trying to buy a house in the same price range - and has had 5-6 sold while she was looking or writing up an offer.

It has a first floor entry (with a few steps - remember I am old) but the yard is so sloped that my deck is really a balcony up in the air which I like for safety.

I close on Friday. Moving is going to be difficult. There is SO much stuff in this house and garage. We are going to do an estate sale - but it will be a mess to organize the stuff (even using an outside firm).

I am in Austin, TX right now for the wedding of my friend's daughter. It has been a busy 2 days of parties. But I don't have to do anything until the wedding tonight at 6, so I am finally posting here.

This will be my first Jewish wedding. I am looking forward to it.

When I read about your brother, I want to slap him! Shame on him:mad:.

It's great that you found a house!!!!!:yay::yay::yay:

Last night Rie and her friends went to the Gumbo Fest in Chackbay. There was a fund raiser selling tshirts they bought. The shirt is black and the lime green writing says:
Cancer Sucks

I couldn't agree more.

ETA: KatMArk shared her Fall signature and asked me to share it with my friends, so you know the routine!!!! Happy Fall!!! Next week we should be in the 60s and it will finally feel like Autumn.

Tricia - So good to hear from you and especially happy that you found a new home! I hope the move goes smoothly for you. How is dad doing?

I will keep your friend in my prayers, cancer truly does suck.

Bethany - I hope Anabelle comes home soon, I know that lonely house feeling all too well.

Hey Y'all,

Cassie, WELCOME!!! :goodvibes

Tricia, I'm glad you've found a nice place! I hope the move goes well. Prayers for your friend. Cancer does indeed suck! How's your Dad doing in his new home?

Kristina, I'm glad you're feeling better!

Bethany, When will Abigail be finished with all her vaccinations? It seems like she's getting a lot, but then it's been a looong time since I've had a puppy.

Mary, Hope you're feeling better today!

Lorie, How's that chubba bubba doing?

We're going out to an early dinner tonight to celebrate my Mom's b-day. We had booked it for 7 and then realized the game starts at 7!

GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

Sheryl - I don't know when Anabelle will be done. I think soon. My bank account hopes soon. :lmao: She's my first puppy so I have no idea. This one is bordertella (sp?) ...kennel cough I think. She got the rabies one last time and her little Jefferson Parish tag. :lmao:

I'm sorting paperwork. UGH. I let it pile up again. :headache: I will say that it's easier to file in the bucket on the floor without a puppy trying to eat each piece. :rotfl2:

Hey y'all!

So we had a somewhat eventful morning...DH was heading to a Walk Against Breast Cancer event at the UNO Lakefront Arena when his tire blew out. :headache: And then of course he discovered that the donut tire was flat too. :headache::headache: So he called me so I could rescue him- I had to load up the kids (one of which was a hungry baby with a stinky diaper ) and head on over there. The funny thing is, I couldn't remember where the Lakefront Arena is at or how to get there- complete brain fog. That is REALLY sad because I grew up in that area and graduated from UNO....:confused3 It is such a shame that my mind is already going at a relatively young age.... Anyways, $100 later, DH has a spanking brand new tire.

:welcome:

Tricia- So good to hear from you! I so wish that could me my tag- I vote for you being tag fairy too! :cheer2: I'm glad to hear you found a new home. And I'm sorry about your friend. Cancer does truly suck- I lost my father to lung cancer in 2004.

Sheryl- Chubba bubba is as good as he can be, except for the teething. Chew, drool, whine, cry, fuss...rinse and repeat. He's awfully cute though when he's not fussing- he laughs a lot more now and it is so cute!:lovestruc Have fun at dinner tonight!

Bethany- Let me warn you about the weather here....it will be hot as hell forever, with people saying "when is it going to get cooler already???!!" and them BAM!! it is cold, literally overnight. It is like fall runs past us in a brief minute or two. You wake up saying "damn, I missed fall again this year! Maybe I'll see it next year...."

I am sitting here sick to my stomach and shell-shocked. Kyle called earlier and told us that last night after he'd dropped Mariah off at her dorm he was back in his apartment complex parking lot talking with her on the phone before heading up to the apartment and he heard some crashing noises. Before he could even realize what was going on his driver side window was being bashed in while he was sitting in the car. He had glass everywhere and cuts on his face. Some idiot was on a drunken rampage smashing in random car windows. Long story short, he's OK, the idiot was caught, thank God the police were there quickly.:sad1:

Wow Kathy, that is so scary! I'm glad they caught the guy and that Kyle was seriously injured-

Obviously- we haven't sold yet!

:eek::eek::eek::eek:so glad he was OK!!!

I am feeling sick now- but mostly upper respiratory stuff.

My dog, Snickers, the fat one- now has to be on more of a diet.:sad2:They are checking him for thyroid issues.

Did I tell you he got to rat poison when I was in Foley with my mom, when Paul was showing the house. Paul put them in the garage when it was raining and he couldn't put them outside. We had some OLD rat poison out there apparently b/c Snickers then brought the pouch to Paul, who was on the phone with me telling me about the showing. I freaked and knew he'd need Vit K immediately b/c rat poison IS coumadin in high quantities and makes you bleed from the inside and then it is too late.

They brought him in and $75 later after induced vomiting(peroxide), a shot of Vit K and scrip for Vit K for 2 weeks-and he was okay-shewww! Today he went for his follow up-check his blood thickness(CPK?) and we find out results Monday. He definitely had it in his tummy and hopefully not further down. he is a brave puppy and gave us NOT a lick of trouble taking his meds plain- and I KNOW vit K is NASTY. He is the best dog. Hershey would have SO given us issues. Todays labs , plus some was $125-so it was a $200 issue.

I don't feel so bad about that wrong turn (or two or three...:rolleyes1) I took a few weeks ago that had me on the way to Chalmette when I meant to be in Metairie. :rotfl2:

I'm glad your DH is okay. What a crazy morning!

So you're saying I should know where my sweatshirts/jackets are?

:scared1: I'd be a numb mess too! How's he doing now? I'm so glad the guy was just doing it "for fun" and he wasn't out to intentionally hurt him! It could have been so much worse. :scared:

Just an FYI...those little glass pieces are pesky. He'll be finding them for years, even after you THINK you've cleaned them all out. :headache: The wind blew out two of my car windows once (no one was in the car at the time) and I was finding glass crumbs about four years later. :confused3

glad you found a place! (wish you were looking here cuz I got a cute 3/2 house for $153900!!!)

I so wish your house was closer. I saw your FB status and the comments about how you kind of wish you were already in Houston, just to get the waiting over with and move on. I totally know how you feel. And for a heads up, just know that will get worse- particularly after you have a date set and events start popping up after that date. You'll get a twinge of sadness/*something* :confused3 each time it happens when you realize the date is "A.M." - "after move". And I hope you feel better too.

That is sooooo scary about Snickers! I'm glad he's okay!

I'm very tired. I just took a two hour nap, yet I feel like I pulled an all-nighter or something. I have about as much energy as a slug. :headache:

Jeesh Kathy that is insane. :sad2:Glad the DARN FRUITCAKE guy was caught.

Lori omg...glad your dog is okay.

Enjoyed my visit with my family.

Thanks y'all, I'm still processing this and realizing how much worse it could have been. He's doing OK and dealing with glass in his face but his head could have been smashed in. I'm sorry I haven't had the right mind to catch up with y'all. Hugs to all who need them and thanks for being here for me.

 He really got so lucky he was not hurt worse. Someone was looking out for him last night. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. It seems like it's been one thing after another for you for awhile. I think you've done your "things come in threes" bit about two or three times over!

Your new avatar is so cute! The game's on in <10 minutes. That should help distract you! ;)

Kat, I'm so relieved for you!!! There are crazy people everywhere!!! It sounds like you may be having a bit of post traumatic stress. It will go away in a day or two when your mind allows you to process it all.

 to you Kathy. We are here for you sweetie.

I'm ashamed to admit it but my child has more of a social life than I do...she is off to a party with her friends tonight and I am stuck home with DH and Kodi. :rolleyes1

Just dropping in to say..... GEAUX TIGERS!!!

He's half right. The defense played very well. The offense, however, was abysmal.

I'm not aggravated that we lost; I'm aggravated in the way we lost.
