Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

I've seen her posts on some other threads...

Okay Lori (BeadPirate)...just HOW MANY places do you live at? You've got NY, NOLA, AND Michigan?!? Or do you just do your laundry in Michigan? And why take laundry to Michigan to wash...it's REALLY not on the way between NOLA and WDW. :confused3

I hope Julie comes back.

Don't you know Lori(BP) is our gypsy? I miss her being here daily.

Hey y'all!

I'm doing better today- thanks for all of the hugs yesterday! The closet has shelves and has a coat of primer on it- I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now (thank goodness)! Funny story though- I was at Lowe's with DD & DH shopping for closet accessories. DH went off on his own to look for something, so I had the cart with DD sitting in it. Well, being so clumsy right now (well, I'm always clumsy, really), I knocked some stuff off of a shelf while turning the cart. Some people around started to come over to help pick it up, because seeing me bend over right now is just not pretty. ;) Well, I also bent over to start picking the stuff up and RIP!, I heard my shorts rip! All I could think was "Oh my God, I'm flashing the world, WHERE IS DH!" I start pushing the cart around looking for DH, while trying to cover my shorts with my shirt. He finally showed up and I just said "LETS GO, NOW!!!" When I got home, I could not find the rip anywhere. :confused3 All of that embarrassment for nothing! :headache: The rip mystery hasn't been solved.

as annoyed as I get with mine, men are just little boys who want approval. from their mommies. who we end up being!:lmao: but seriously, my man went on and on about the first diaper he finally changed...while I changed so many i lost count the first month. he does that whenever he does anything that "should" be done anyway (ooh ooh I got out a roll of toilet paper!, or ooh ooh I folded clothes) but he really just wants me to go WOW WHAT A GREAT JOB YOU ARE AWESOME! (caps intended) which of course I am totally adverse to because he is an adult. but when my dd does something very tiny "oh mom I put a garbage bag in the garbage can" and I go WOW WHAT A GREAT JOB YOU ARE AWESOME! (notice the similarities?)
Heh heh, I have to chuckle here...you're definitely not the only one...

I'm really surprised that Todd is dealing with so much of that at WF's! I always feel happy shopping there, because other customers are always so polite &courteous. It must be a very bad sign of the times!
One thing we have learned from working there is that ALL demographics steal- young, old, rich, poor- no one is excluded. Really, you'd be shocked! There are some funny shoplifting stories too...like the one when I was working at the old store on Esplanade- there was a guy that came in wearing shrimping boots. While he was "shopping", we saw him dropping product into his boots...vitamins, steaks, even a bottle of wine. We stopped him at the door as he was leaving and said "sir, we need to look inside of your boots..." :rotfl: Then, the physical altercation shoplifter last night was trying to steal peanut butter- about $30 worth. Just peanut butter. Usually the shoplifters go for expensive meat, wine, beer, expensive vitamins- high-end stuff. But no, this guy was risking going to jail for a whole bunch of peanut butter. :confused3

Heading to Destin around lunchtime tomorrow!

Lori

I hope you have a wonderful trip! And you sound like you are getting into a more positive place regarding the move- I'm happy for you!

I hope everyone has a good day. Mine started out with an argument with DH. (paying for work around the house, with people (relatives) that need their hands held to do the simplest task! Silly argument, just something that gets to both of us & we took it out on each other. :sad2:

I hope your day improved. I've been snappy with DH too, but I think I established that yesterday. ;)

Me too. I could go give Todd a hug at the store :).

It's everywhere. I was meeting some friends from out of town and sat in front of the Little Rock Whole Foods for about 35 minutes - some scary people on occassion. Of course somebody was probably leery of why I was sitting out there scoping out the store too.
;):rotfl:

I only think they'd be leery of you if DH put out some sort of Whole Foods APB about a Santa stalking woman that fit your description....:rotfl2:

Where'sPiglet (in spirit only - will have to find a piglet to bring with us!)

they have cake. not sure what else they have. but they have cake! :woohoo::cheer2: not that I am overly excited, mind you....
I have a stuffed Piglet I could bring. It is covered in kiddie grub, but it'll do.

And cake is always important- one of my favorite food groups! :)

Now that Kyle’s baseball season is officially over I would like to share what's happening with y'all.

He had a rough baseball season and the coach proved to be the type to play the players whose families donated the most money to the baseball program. Therefore he pitched a whopping 3 innings all season. It was so difficult to watch our son’s spirit be totally broken and he looked so lost for so long. We lost all respect for the coach, he's all about who makes him look good and he doesn't care about the boys as a team. His wife and mother showed the family has no class as they would taunt & curse at the opposing teams. We're talking college ball here! To make it even worse the education at Delgado is pitiful, he hasn't had to crack open a book. He actually came to us and said he was ready to focus on his education and put baseball aside. He applied to LSU, which is where he's always wanted to go and will major in Psychology. He has been provisionally accepted pending receipt of his final transcripts from Delgado. We signed the lease on his apartment three weeks ago. I am so excited for him. I can't tell you how proud I am of him to decide to focus on his future and hang up baseball. Johnny is having a hard time with it though, guess that’s a Dad thing. Kyle will try and walk-on the team at LSU but they're one of the top teams in the country so that would be a long shot.

I’d like to thank you all for supporting Kyle the past two years through the best times of his life and for listening to my rambling about the games, y’all are the best!
Wow Kathy, y'all have been through a lot! Well, good luck to Kyle and I wish him the best at LSU. I know it will be hard for you to see him go. I can't believe Delgado was so bad- that is just terrible! :sad2:

I hope Julie comes back.

Don't you know Lori(BP) is our gypsy? I miss her being here daily.

Hey y'all. I PM'd Kat that i've been super busy with out of town company and a teen aged daughter and all that involves!!
I just noticed that somehow some of my subscriptions were removed and this was one of them. Go figure.:confused3

Kat, Kyle made a very grownup decision and you're right to feel so proud of him. Give him a hug from me!!!

kmores, how have you been feeling?

Ms. Marigny, how is Erik?

How is everyone else?

Hopefully, I'll be around some more. It is taking awhile for me to adjust to Rie going to school after having home schooled her. She's so busy and is too young to drive and most of the other mothers work, so my taxi driver skills have been in overdrive for she and the other cheerleaders.

Thanks for caring enough to get in touch!:grouphug:

Jenny & Monique - Thanks so much for helping me with apartment ideas in and around Baton Rouge.

Has anyone seen Julie(ries'mom) lately?

Hi, I was just dropping into this thread to ask a baseball question when I saw your post.

I'm so sorry to hear that your son had a rough year. Coaches forget sometimes that players are real people with very real feelings. They put winning or whose father is the president of the Booster Club ahead of ability and heart.

My oldest son coaches high school ball and I hope he always remembers that what he says and does will stay with a young man long after a baseball game is forgotten.

My question is this. DD's high school team will play St Martin at Bonnabel High School in Metarie on Saturday. We may come down on Friday or DH may be busy and we may have to wait until Saturday morning. If we do come down Friday does anyone have a hotel suggestion? Something in a safe area and fairly close to the school.

I'm not very familiar with Metarie and don't know if it is a good place to stay or not.

Thanks,

Penny

Well dadgumit, I posted the same thing twice somehow. :confused3

Penny

Gosh, I am SO far behind in reading everyone's messages. I'm trying to do a little catch-up but I'll probably wind up just starting from now and forget about reading everything I've missed. I'll try to keep up better from now on. :goodvibes

We have a trip to WDW at the end of the month to use up our DVC points before they expire. I am really looking forward to this trip! Not much else has been happening around here.

:wave2: Welcome back! Have a great time at WDW!

I had a chance to go at the end of the month and turned it down. :scared1: It would have been for Memorial Day weekend and I just can't justify the cost at this point in time. I'm taking a trip at the end of June though...:rolleyes1 Just not to WDW.

Shoot...I'm taking a trip at the end of this WEEK. I keep forgetting about it?! :headache:I mentioned it today and one of the kids at work goes "Oh, where are you going?" I said "To Boston...NOT New Orleans this time." And the kid replies "Oh, I figured that. I was wondering when you were gonna go someplace other than New Orleans." :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: I've never directly said I'm moving there, but they've overheard me say things to other adults that they COULD put 2 and 2 together if they are paying enough attention.

Don't you know Lori(BP) is our gypsy? I miss her being here daily.

 I like her posts too...when I see them...

Speaking of liking posts...Lorie yours always make me laugh! (And I'm always clumsy too...and the boxes all over the place around here are NOT HELPING!)

Glad to hear the closet is coming along. I saw some nice closets when I was looking at apartments. Cara can vouch for that. :lmao:

SHRIMP BOOTS?!? :rotfl: Of all things...
And $30 in peanut butter?

I used to work at Target "on the front lines" (i.e. "cashiering" and "guest services") and saw all sorts of bizarre things too. I was working in Denver and this lady had a return that would only allow for a gift card back, and she was telling me that she was from Brooklyn and couldn't use a gift card. I told her that there were Targets in Brooklyn and her response was that they were "too far away". Ummm....but you're at the one in Denver...how is that one NOT too far away? :confused3

And are you calling me grubby?

Hey y'all. I PM'd Kat that i've been super busy with out of town company and a teen aged daughter and all that involves!!

Good to see you again...hopefully things get less busy for you. Boring is overrated. ;)

I'm sure I'm missing stuff...:grouphug:

As usual Lorie... you have me in stitches:rotfl2: I can imagine your face when you got home and didn't find a rip...

Peanut Butter??? I wouldn't risk jail for stealing anything... you can ask the manager of the Sunrise, FL Walmart...lol. We were coming back from our first post K visit... just DH and I and we were a little rattled. Well, we ran out of bug juice so we had to stop at Walmart or we were not going to be able to see out of the windshield for much longer... well... dh decided we ALSO needed some Michael Jackson music for the remaining 7 hours of driving :confused3 so he picked it up while I waited in the car. (I was not much in the mood for Walmart)He came out and handed me the cd to put it the drive while he filled the bug juice container and we went on our happy way:yay: across the street to Sonnys BBQ (i love that place)... In the middle of eating my sweet dh had a look of panic cross his face:eek:, he realized that he didn't pay for his new CD... it was not on purpose of course so we finished our meal and went back to Walmart where I bring the damn CD back in the store to the customer service counter and explained the situation... we stole it, we are sorry, and we want to pay for it.... The manager nearly fainted:confused: He just kept saying you got it out of the store and you came back, I would have kept going:sad2: We just couldn't do it:confused3

Although I will say that the real Bethany is usually free of kid grub... that Piglet would be perfect since she is a teacher and all...

So Bethany, your pal Fletcher has a request for you... he asked if you would chaperone his field trip to the insta-gator ranch next year:thumbsup2 You made some impression on him:confused3

Hi LucyAnna Girl!
My mother loved the Doubletree near Causeway... I have never stayed in a hotel here so I really don't beyond that... wish I could help you more.

Thanks! It will probably be Friday morning before I know when we are coming and I hate trying to guess if a hotel in an unfamiliar city is a good place to stay.

I waited a bit to reply to this because I could relate to it and I didn't know what to say (still don't, really...). My principal does the same thing - it's all about what LOOKS GOOD. And that first part I bolded...almost made me cry because I know how that feels all too well. It hurts.

I know you are so proud of him for making a change for the better. I just know it's going to work out for him! :goodvibes

Well dadgumit, I posted the same thing twice somehow. :confused3

I have not heard that word in a LONG TIME. In high school some kid came from Tennessee and he said that. We were all laughing so hard because we'd never heard it before. :lmao: I still use it on rare occasions. It's not really an NYC word though...(it's more than 4 letters)

So Bethany, your pal Fletcher has a request for you... he asked if you would chaperone his field trip to the insta-gator ranch next year:thumbsup2 You made some impression on him:confused3

:scared1: Ohhhh man, I forgot I was going to apply for that tour guide job. Now I have a job. Hey Jamie! Maybe your DH could work there? You have to get an alligator out of some pond and tape it's mouth shut, then hold it for a long time. :lmao: Oh wait....weren't you the one that worked with the gators at the zoo? Guess that wouldn't phase you one bit. Hmmph.
(And I don't mean to make light of your situation...I know it's hard. Hang in there.)

Hey y'all. I PM'd Kat that i've been super busy with out of town company and a teen aged daughter and all that involves!!
I just noticed that somehow some of my subscriptions were removed and this was one of them. Go figure.:confused3

Ms. Marigny, how is Erik?
Hey! I'm glad you're just busy and nothing is amiss! Baby Erik is getting bigger...and bigger! I feel like I'm going to pop!

Although I will say that the real Bethany is usually free of kid grub... that Piglet would be perfect since she is a teacher and all...
Well that's kind of what I figured too...;)

Really though, Piglet isn't that bad- he isn't "loved" as much as her Winnie the Pooh- that thing is just filthy. I'll wipe down Piglet a bit if that makes you feel better, Bethany.

I think DH would faint if someone came back to the store to pay for something! Definitely a rarity there! But a Michael Jackson CD? That is kind of funny...I usually don't think of him as road trip music...

And I am just really perplexed by the whole shorts ripping incident! I swear I heard a rip and I could feel a breeze... I have no idea...

Penny- Hey! I wish I could suggest a hotel, but I've never stayed in any around here! Metairie though is relatively safe- it is a suburb of New Orleans and more family-oriented. Hopefully someone can give a suggestion...

*sigh* I'm not loved as much as Pooh. And everybody is scared of me; thinking I'm going to kill them by sneezing on them. What a week. :sad2:

;)

I'll bet kmores can help! I suspect she'll be around soon...

Thanks! It will probably be Friday morning before I know when we are coming and I hate trying to guess if a hotel in an unfamiliar city is a good place to stay.

hey I PM'd you and I have a friend who works at a hotel on causeway and I-10 - right by the mall almost...you need something to do fri night eh? ;) you will have to call and remind me to call her cause I am wiped out and may forget. we will make sure you have a safe place to stay here. and I am always available for tour guide/food taster. don't want you coming here and getting sick eh? and good luck to your son's team if we aren't able to meet you!:cool1:

:rotfl: ok so i just read to the end...and of course posted right after you! social director at your service (bowing) ;)

so i got to sing at our pryer and praise night. TEN songs OMG...but so awesome to actually hear people singing and watch them praying and praising! middle of practice my NEW phone DIED. so ran over there at 8:45 freaking out...all fixed supposedly.

so tigerkat - so sorry for all that Kyle has been through but glad it is working out. he is such an awesome young man (willing to hang out with little old me at the game and still be such a nice guy - I would vote him for President!). he deserves something good even if it isn't that "glamourous" over being abused. he seems to have incredible character and that will take him a lot farther than b-ball will. Chris from Shaw lost his whole FB and BB year because of a tear in his shoulder. not much consolation as I assume Kyle is incredibly talented, but glad he made such a mature decision!

sorry i cna't remember a thing I jsut read anymore.,,I am wiped out and must go to bed. have a condo meeting tomorrow...i need some disboard time!! have a great rest of the week if i don't get on until the weekend. OOOOH I will be venturing to the westbank off carol sue for a party satuday for my friend's birthday....12-3. maybe can see some of you although we will be dj'ing it....

Perhaps it was the fact that it was a MJ CD????:confused3

Ug, fighting this headache all day. Word to the wise, yo...don't work on your budget right before bed - makes for yucky dreams.! :scared1: I talked to my mom on the phone for 2 hours tonight (she lives across the highway :rolleyes1) and we bonded over griping about what a control freak my dad is. (they ARE still together, btw). He sent some guy over to redo the soffit on my porch today. :confused3 He said it was my birthday present??? (my bday is in JANUARY :confused3). It does look really nice (it needed to be redone), but defintely not on my top 50 priorites list. I'd rather if he'd, I don't know, pay off my car note? pirate: Yeah. THAT would rock. Time for advil and bed. Night all.

He finally showed up and I just said "LETS GO, NOW!!!" When I got home, I could not find the rip anywhere. :confused3 All of that embarrassment for nothing! :headache: The rip mystery hasn't been solved.

I can only imagine how you felt.:rotfl:

Thanks for caring enough to get in touch!:grouphug:

Hey, we're family here!:grouphug:

I'm not very familiar with Metarie and don't know if it is a good place to stay or not.

Penny - The building I work in has a lovely Marriott in it, it used to be the Doubletree Hotel. It's right at the foot of the causeway, Lakeway 3 Bldg. Here's a link:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/msymm-new-orleans-marriott-metairie-at-lakeway/

Thanks to all for the kind words about my boy. I know I'm going to miss him but I really feel this is the best time of his life and he should be happy.

Morning Y'all,

You chatty bunch I just can't keep up!

Penny, I second Kathy's recommendation. If you are looking for something less expensive, we can look for more for you.

Jan Welcome Back!

Rie's Mom, Welcome back too!

Lori/BP, We miss you soo much! Have a great cruise trip!!

Lorie, Sorry about the rip incident! I'm sure you were so embarrassed. Peanut Butter thiefs at WF! :confused3 What is this world coming to?

Kathy, I'm sure you remember my story about Josh having to make that same decision. A little different situation, his coach said he had to drop his nursing curriculum for something that required less class time. Well Josh made the adult decision to choose school against his father's wishes. But it was the right choice, he knew he'd never be a major league player, so he was going to have to make a living. You know the rest, but finally out of school & now a CRNA.

I know it's been a struggle for Kyle (& Johnny) but his education is the most important! I'm so excited for him to go to LSU!! Angelina still says that LSU was the Best Time of her Life!! :cheer2:

Funny from Alexis this morning... Her Mom bought her a kiddie pedicure kit, with the little pink sandals, the toe thingies, soap confetti etc. & brought it to my house. (Alexis & I have done pedi's before without a darn kit but that's another story!;)) Alexis is all excited about it & this morning while eating breakfast, asked " Nana, when I get home from school can we do Pedi-Fours ? " Bob & I cracked up but of course I said " yes Alexis we can definitely do Pedi-Fours!" :cutie::laughing: Gosh I love that kid!

I was able to move up my hair appt to today!:cool1: I'm so happy, I've been looking pretty bad. Hope everyone has a good day!

Good Morning Ya'll. I'm just getting back from my weekly trip to Walmart. I had to stock up on things for this weekend. I'm still not too sure what we will be doing on Sunday but my family is coming over on Saturday and we'll celebrate then. Colin has an afternoon baseball game then Mark will grill something or other for us.

So who has big Mother's Day plans?

Kathy I know I've said this before but you have raised such a fine young man in Kyle. This is such a hard time for him and he's making such grown up decisions. I wish him the best of luck at LSU.

Sheryl that Alexis is such a cutie. I love both petit-fours and pedicures. :rotfl: She can't go wrong with either.

Lorie, you should have a tag that says "heard a rip, and could feel the breeze":lmao:

Sheryl, how about eating petit fours while having a pedicure? I could deal with that:)

Kat, good luck to Kyle. I know it will be different, but Baton Rouge is not that far away. LSU is where my son, David is thinking about also and I get teary-eyed thinking about it. Its the next phaze of their young lives and we'll have to get used to it. We can lean on each other when it happens:goodvibes

Jamie, I'm worried about you. Are you having a better day today?

Kathy, I'm sure you remember my story about Josh having to make that same decision. A little different situation, his coach said he had to drop his nursing curriculum for something that required less class time. Well Josh made the adult decision to choose school against his father's wishes. But it was the right choice, he knew he'd never be a major league player, so he was going to have to make a living. You know the rest, but finally out of school & now a CRNA.
