My husband just got a new job as a principal. I know he has been on the hunt for a messenger bag and I'd like to get him one for Fathers Day. Like a really nice one that will last the rest of his career and he can look back and know that he got it the first year of being a principal.

I need durable and really nice, but don't want to break the bank. Ideas?

Banana Republic usually has some nice ones and they always have a 40% off sale going on. Just sign up and wait...

Coach has some nice leather ones but then you are talking $400 unless you find one at the outlet. Maybe try the online outlet.

Try Ebags or LuggagePros - both are great with fantastic prices.

I would get Tumi. It looks professional. Through their outlet stores, they usually have them around $200 and sometimes have sales on top of that. DH used his first Tumi for 10 years until it got a broken clasp and he decided to replace instead of repairing it.

For a waterproof, outdoorsy looking bag, can't go wrong with Granite Gear. For a full-grain, well-made, holds up to anything, leather bag, get a Le Donne. Neither are "prestige" brands, but both make really high quality products that will last and last and last. (Usually long after I am tired with them!)

Go to Staples or Office Max. I got my husband (a teacher) one there 3 years ago, and it looks brand new still. It was around $50 and looked really nice. And congrats on the job! Though I have to say I'm envious! My husbands pay would double if he would just do the one last class to be a principal, but he doesn't like paperwork, and thinks it will be nothing but as a principal, so he's not going to do it. :( We could go to Disney every year if he did, lol!

I second Timbuk2.

It's says you're a bit edgy, but a professional. The REAL people all carry Timbuk2.

I kind of talked him into going for his admin because I knew there would come a time that he would be ready for something more than teaching. It was an expense and this job, as well as VP is MUCH more time consuming than teaching. The increase in pay has certainly been nice.

I've tried to talk mine into it, because he would do so well in it. Today, found out two teachers are leaving his school because they are going to be admins. Just a wee bit on the sad side! But if it's not something he wants to do, he shouldn't, I keep telling myself. (Though, he just came home, pulled his hamstring doing a split for his 5th graders, and we leave Saturday for our Disney trip, it's been 2 years, and he does all the driving because I can't do the big cities and I'm awful on the interstate just as a passenger for nerves. So I'm an absolute wreck of nerves right now, and not feeling quite as nice as I ought to be.)

I was a teacher, many, many years ago. When I left, a fellow teacher (I guess these days you'd call her my mentor) apologized. She said she hadn't had the "you're going to get bored" speech with me yet because it usually took 6 years for that to happen with new, overly smart teachers. I found out she had her Admin cert and 4 different area certs - she got bored and so was constantly working on new certs. Don't tell anyone, but that's sort of my retirement dream. Pick up a new cert in math and teach somewhere they can't keep teachers or pay them enough to live on, just because.
