For those at Disneyland during the holidays, keep an eye out for TUBACHRISTMAS. This is a free concert performed by area Tuba and Euphonium players and held in honor of the Great Grandfather of most Tuba Players, William Bell (My Tuba Teacher studied with Bill Bell)

Here is the information for the dates and locations:

ANAHEIM, DOWNTOWN DISNEY - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19 - TIME: 12:00 noon
LOCATION: Downtown Disney in front of ESPN, AMC Theaters

TUBACHRISTMAS has been held at Walt Disney World's Disney Springs in the past but, this year will be off-site.

ORLANDO/WINTER PARK - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19 - TIME: 1:00 pm
LOCATION: Winter Park Band Stage on Park Ave.

This is a really fun event!! I have gone to our local events and some of the distant TubaChristmas events since I was in Jr High. 30 years later, it has become a great tradition that my DS(12) and I attend.

a little history...
2015 is the 42nd anniversary for TUBACHRISTMAS concerts/events which are presented throughout the world. TUBACHRISTMAS was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day, 1902. Through the legendary William J. Bell we reflect on our heritage and honor all great artists/teachers whose legacy has given us high performance standards, well structured pedagogy, professional integrity, personal values and a camaraderie envied by all other instrumentalists. The first TUBACHRISTMAS was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City's Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday, December 22, 1974. Traditional Christmas music performed at the first TUBACHRISTMAS was arranged by American composer Alec Wilder who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. Wilder composed many solo and ensemble compositions for tuba and euphonium. He was a loyal supporter of every effort to improve the literature and public image of our chosen instruments. Through Alec Wilder we express our respect and gratitude to all composers who continue to embrace our instruments with their compositions and contribute to the ever growing solo and ensemble repertoire for tuba and euphonium.

Now this is some Heavy Metal...

One day, I will be in Florida or California Tuba Christmas. I just need to buy an extra seat on the plane for my Tuba.

It might be cheaper to rent a Tuba in Los Angeles.

I would love to sit and listen to a Tuba Christmas in Downtown Disney. We should plan a DIS meet around it and invite @DisneyKevin and ask the Tubists to play Vaughn Williams.

Oooo, I sooo love this idea, Jack!

I miss doing this. There was one in Lancaster Pa that I preformed in for years, even had a great road trip with some fellow music majors when I was in college. There was a rush showing up and having a few hours to practice together before playing in front of a few hundred people.
Only tuba geeks will like this, but while in high school i had district band auditions the day after Tuba Christmas. I showed up to the audition with my tuba still in a footlocker sized box wrapped like a christmas pressant with the bell sticking out. The only issue was I could not reach the spit valve and only made second chair.

@jcb, I think I need to obtain one of these if I want to play on either coast... (The F Tuba looks like a Cimbasso that has been wrapped up.)

I'm so glad you posted this! I'm (only slightly) sad I'm missing the Tuba Christmas by me, but I'll swing by the one at Disneyland!

I'm slightly annoyed they don't have any horn parts though...

I think the tubists are trying to keep the good parts for themselves. If they let horn players in the group, we would have to play all the heroic passages.

I've been to the Tuba Christmas near me two or three times. It is different but I like holiday events and shows so I enjoyed it.

I know where Vaughn Williams is buried.
I'd love to attend Tuba Christmas, but I haven't had my Geek Vaccine this year.

Kevin, I had changed Santa's list for you to include only Star Wars items. Enjoy your knock off Louis V knock off of a Wookie clutch.
