Men & Women: Please don't put that in my Christmas Sock

Bath and body stuff -- I have a whole bag full of lotions and soaps I'll never use b/c I can't stand most scents. My mom is the biggest culprit, and I'm not sure why b/c we're discussed a million times the scents we like and though she knows I can't tolerate florals, she keeps getting them for me :confused3 Since we were kids Dad has bought for everyone those nasty Brach's candies and fruits -- we all hate them but he likes them, so it's sort of an unspoken rule that we offer him some of our candy all day then "accidentally" leave the candy behind so he can eat it. BTW: Have you ever noticed how stocking apples always seem to be mushy? It's the oddest thing...

Socks in the stocking, unless they serve an indulgent purpose such as fluffy slipper socks or pedicure socks, are just evil.

DH and I however have a pact to ONLY get the name-brand candy ;) He gets his beloved chocolate covered cherries, peppermint patties and Reese's. I get the good chocolate :thumbsup2

My fave stocking items are those holiday mini nail polishes, lip glosses, small gift certificates like Starbucks, scratch off lottery tickets (different strokes...), CD's and fun pens (call me weird, I love my Wizard of Oz pens ;) )

:rotfl2: Great thread!

My SIL and I always have a laugh on Christmas Eve - every year she gets something chocolate and I get bubble bath from MIL however SIL is the one that likes the bath stuff and I am the one that likes the chocolate and MIL knows this but still gives SIL the choc and me the bubble bath. :confused3

I don't need razors, deoderant and stuff either... nothing says Merry Christmas like a Bic razor!

AAA membership-- thats not a gifty item.

Wow, I would love to get a AAA membership for Christmas! I don't mind the razors and stuff, too, as long as it's nice brand name stuff, but I don't think I would buy that for someone unless I really knew them. You never know if they have allergies or preferences.

You mean your husbands suppose to fill your stockings? Heck, I'm lucky if mine even Christmas shops. Normally it's the night before. I mean in his defence, you never know when Christmas is going to sneak up on you...it's never the same date every year is it? Either that or it's a crime to shop before hand...not sure which one (same applies for our anniversary).

I just told dh I wanted him to do my stocking this year. lol He rarely does, and on the rare occasions that he does remember, he frantically buys stuff at the drugstore that I don't want. I told his he should not spend a lot of money (I can see him running out and getting diamond earrings because I just said that), but to get thoughtful things. Like I do for him!

My mom still does stockings for us. She ALWAYS gets the lifesavers storybook - I actually like that. Lol

my husband and I hang stocking but we never fill them. :(

For those moms out there with the empty sockings, I finally realized that my mom needed a stocking too. She has always done one for every one else, even for my husband when he came into the family. The bad part of this is that it took me almost 30 years before I started doing this for my mother. So maybe one year you moms will get a full stocking too. Good luck :santa:
As far as for what I get in mine, I get a lot of silly stuff that after Christmas day I won't do anything with but it is still fun to go through it on Christmas morning. :santa:

OMG i never thought about that. My mother in law makes stocking for all 12 adults in the family and she never gets one. I have never ever thought of that. Well this year she's getting one.

My useless stocking stuffers all come from my inlaws. The funny thing is, my MIL gets so excited over stockings -- she thinks those are the most fun of all the gifts!

Over the last 15 years that DH & I have been married, I've received things such as:

- Dixie cups
- flash light (one can be useful, but one a YEAR is not neccessary!)
- plastic toothpick type floss alternative
- bandaids
- lettuce corer

Those are just a few I can think of! It's strange!

we left my older brother (mind you he’s 30) in charge of stocking last year (never again)

ended up with travel sized everything
from deodorant to shampoo
he even gave everyone a tongue scraper (now that is just icky)

Is he a dentist at least? :confused3

GOOFY4DONALD - I got a chuckle out of your post. I could just see the awful shirt. Does she have really bad taste in her own clothes or is she just splurging for you?

To you others who don't get your stockings filled on Xmas, I don't either, but after thinking about how UNFAIR that is, I'm going to have a talk with DH about filling each others' stockings this year. I wonder if I should just start with..."oh, and please no generic or cheap lotions or chocolate." He's the one who got my a Palmer chocolate bunny last Easter and I threw it away after one bite...and if you knew me, you'd KNOW it must've been bad because I am a chocoholic times ten!

female..

an IOU!! :lmao: puuuulease.. just get me some bubble gum or something.. Id even take a tampon :rotfl2:

Female: Lottery Tickets-- its just stupid. For that $10 could have gone to something better or more interesting than pieces of cardboard that you may not even win anything.

Nothing sexual==remember these stockings are opened in front of family

I don't need razors, deoderant and stuff either... nothing says Merry Christmas like a Bic razor!

My MIL gives me AAA membership every year and I love it! She also, however, puts cheap razors and deoderant in my stocking. I can only use one certain kind of deoderant (all others give me a rash) and I can't stand those cheap razors.

My MIL likes to buy me clothes and undies that are about 10 sizes (not kidding) too big. This one shirt looked like it was out of a sitcom. It had cats and a Christmas tree a and big bells that jingled. It looked like my whole family and a few orphans could have called it home. When I thanked her she said that if it is too small she can get me a larger size....did I forget to mention that this woman hates me?

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Thanks for helping me meet my laugh quota for the day!

Yeah-- I'm high maintenance about my chocolate, and I REALLY LOVE the dark chocolate oranges by Toblerone (now Terry's, I think) in my stocking. One year, poor DH could only find the milk chocolate--blech. He ended up giving me his, since I managed to find the good ones. Now I just drop hints about where I was shopping and what a GREAT DEAL I found (code for: they have dark chocolate oranges there).

We make one for my MIL every year. It's kind of hard to find things to go in it. So far this year I've bought some fancy little pink and green purse tissues and a set of coasters. I almost always put note cards and a cute little notebook in it, too.

Dh only did my stocking the first year we were married. It was FILLED with candy. After that first year, he decided to pay my mom for whatever she picked up and then she wraps it and gives it to him w/the total!!! It's much better! However, every year there is a *joke* gift in there. Last year's was a flute....

MIL gave me a used wallet w/a 20.00 bill in it one year....

 First year I was with DBF my stocking was almost all candy. I could tell he felt bad when his was loaded with cool stuff and a little bit of candy. Every year since then my stocking has been excellent.

That's exactly what happened here!

I have a stocking that will again be empty if I don't fill it! I tried hinting for a few years, then I flat out asked him to fill a stocking but I am yet to receive one. Last year my clueless children asked me, "Nice stocking, Mom but who's going to fill it?" Geez guys, maybe if each of the other five members of my family bought an inexpensive trinket or treat, I might actually have a stocking that is a genuine surprise!

The kind of things I'd hate to receive in my stocking:-

  • Reese's or anything peanut-butter flavoured
  • Zodiac anything
  • Playing cards
  • Shampoo & conditioner - my hair is too finicky for experimentation
  • Cheap lotions or body sprays - too allergic
  • Anything X rated
  • Weight loss book or exercise videos unless I specifically asked for it. Otherwise, I'd take it as a not-too-subtle hint that I'm getting too fat
  • DH's idea of a good movie
  • Any gadgets for household use
  • Cutesy animal figurines
    Gag gifts of any kind

Things I'd love to see in my stocking

  • Toiletries I love but wouldn't ordinarily splurge on
  • Nice chocolate
  • A Christmas ornament - doesn't have to be expensive
  • Socks - I never seem to have enough
  • A good skipping rope
  • Electronic Scrabble
  • Craft tools
  • Travel mug without logos!
  • Genuine surprises of the pleasant kind
