Asking on behalf of my DH... For an office that allows business casual, but if a person wanted to be just a little dressier (but really hates ties)...

Is it ok to wear a dress pants and a shirt without a tie, or is that just wrong and weird? :confused3

I do it all the time, even in NYC. In fact, sometime I even roll up my sleeves... :scared1: ;)

DF does this just about every day at work. :thumbsup2

I think it looks great! Sometimes a tie is just too much. My dh wears dress pants and a shirt without a tie all the time. :thumbsup2

That's the way DH dresses. He thinks polo shirts look too casual for where he works.

Thanks, good to hear! I think he looks great, but I just wondered if it was "ok". KWIM?

Almost all the offices I have ever worked with, this is pretty normal. Most men will keep a few ties in their desks in case they have an unexpected client meeting or need to be more formal for whatever reason.

My husband dresses like this every day in the winter. In the summer he wears nice polos. He isn't in a position where he meets with clients/bigwigs, but he does keep a tie at his desk just in case during the winter and a dress shirt/tie in the summer.

IMO, it depends on the cut of the collar. Button-down or straight collar looks fine. A spread collar or a button-across collar looks a bit funky undone without a tie.

The other issue is whether or not to do up the collar button when no tie is present. Personally I don't like that look -- it reminds me of Forrest Gump.

Men here wear that look all the time.

Some of them put a tie in their pocket, too. Even when they have no intentions of actually wearing it. I guess men here like to accessorize.

that is my normal attire for work, except for days that I am required to wear a tie, and if I get warm at work I roll up my sleeves.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

days that I'm required to wear a tie, it's either a Disney tie, or a Pirate themed tie...:cool1::cool1:

I have to wear a tie everyday, but on the few days we are business casual its it is NO TIE!

To me business casual is anywhere from khakis and polo up to dress pants and shirt with no tie.

Ditto, DH works for a large financial institution and wears nice trousers and a button shirt most days. It looks nice and professional but not fussy.
