Men and "mail order brides"

I knew a mail order bride from Russia who was abused by her husband. She got a restraining order and a divorce and met another American guy (very nice but socially inept) whom she married the day after her divorce came through. She also has a boyfriend on the side. He's from Russia too and illegal. I figure as soon as she get her citizenship, she'll dump the husband and marry the boyfriend to get him citizenship.

My husband jokes that I am a mail order bride and some of his coworkers actually believe him. Of course I have been an American citizen since I was 12 yo and met DH in high school.

Socially inept? How about loser? These losers are so afraid of women, they need a painted up doll to make them feel alive. Before the internet, the doll was usually made of rubber or plastic.

Holy ignorance. I know 2 men with Russian brides and neither fit your description. They were both really nice guys who were tired of getting pooped on by Amer women. Both were very successful business men and physically attractive. Neither had trouble finding women to date in America, but were tired of women just trying to take advantage. In fact- one of them had started dating an attractive, blond, outgoing friend of mine- they started as friends and it progressed against his judgement. After 2 months he had to admit to her that he had this bride coming over and he had already committed to her and would not go back on his word.

The women come from a place with no opportunity. One lady was a doctor and could not find work. When she did it paid next to nothing. She had a daughter with no opportunity- the girl will only drink water- that is the only flavor she knows. Most of the men were abusive and/ or alcoholics. She is far from subservient- she is smart, beautiful and pleasant to be around. My family long ago lowered its hairy eyebrows and learned to love her and she makes her husband so happy.

I think it is like any other marriage- some work some don't.

Any man who has to resort to picking out a foreign bride from a catalog because "women take advantage of him" or "women don't understand him" is a loser. That's is my opinion and I"m sticking to it.

As far as these "mail-order brides, they're one step above hookers. They're looking for some man to pay their way while they play the "good wife" sexually. If these women had any self-respect, they'd immigrate on their own and make something of their lives instead of looking for a sugar daddy.

ITA. Furthermore, speaking of taking advantage, after one of her of these swell guys arranged to marry one of these wonderful Russian women, he continued to to date and lead on an American woman. Talk about takng advantage. I hope he gets what he paid for with his mail order gal.

I used to work with a woman who was a mail order bride. I don't know the details, but she is from the Phillipines and came to the U.S. to marry her husband. From the way she talked he was older and extremely religious and couldn't find the kind of wife he wanted in this country. He wanted an old-fashioned wife who obeyed him and gave him lots of children.

She was only able to carry one child to term and he was extremely disappointed in her, so he made her get a job to make up for her shortcomings.

I asked her once if her son was going trick-or-treating and she was amazed that I would let my children wear costumes and trick-or-treat because Halloween is "Satan's Holiday". He had her completely brainwashed.
