Men and Gold Chains

Retro. I had no idea this was back in style again. And puka shell necklaces too?:lmao:

Have I ever told you about my blind date I forever referred to as "Abdulla and the magic buttons." Yes, his name was Abdulla (not sure if I'm spelling it correctly. I swear, everytime he turned around another button was undone on his shirt exposing more hairy chest and gold chains. I haven't thought about that in years - it makes me want to giggle even now!

:lmao::lmao:

DH only wears his wedding bad, no other jewelry. The other men in my family are the same way.

About 2 weeks ago, we had the "pleasure" of dealing with a car salesman that was wearing 3 gold rings. Ugh! :headache: He fit all the nasty stereotypes. Needless to say, he had a pinky ring.:rolleyes:

Not done here either....I agree that this must be largely a regional thing.

Growing up my uncle (Pollish ancestry born and raised in Dallas--so how does that fit the theories?:lmao:) ALWAYS wore a simple medium weight gold chain (he is 74 now and was still wearing it last time I saw him). It was very noticable to me as my father never wore any jewelry (not even a wedding ring).
DH wears a simple silver chain frequently (most of the time he is not at work--no jewelry there for safety reasons). It is a fairly "heavy" one but looks small on his big frame (DH is 6' 5" and very broad shouldered). He also has a silver "ID bracelette" which he wears once in a while. DS10 has a thin silver chain he wears pretty often. He also has an asortment of shell and fabric and wood bead necklaces as well as the "sailor" know bracelettes. HE takes more jewelry on vacation than DD and I put together:rotfl2: I like it when DS wears a necklace to swim becuase it makes him easier to spot in the water from behind (usually few boys have them).

I see men wearing chains with crosses and sometimes wedding rings. I see nothing wrong with it with the right clothing.

Here in NJ though, many men wear chains with no clothing (other than a bathing suit) or with their shirt unbuttoned down to their belly button. Nothing turns me off more than a hairy man dripping in gold chains that asks,
"how you doin'?"

My dad has worn a gold rope chain for about 15 years or so. He's now 67 and we live in Indiana. It's not flashy and it usually falls under his shirt.

My uncle (dad's brother) also wears a chain. In fact, he also wears one around his wrist.

They are not Italian and are not hairy with beer bellies.

As long as they chain is not huge or flashy and it's tasteful, I don't mind it. Actually, my nephew who's 18 also wears one. He lives in Ohio.

Blech. That is a huge turn off.

I'm from Brooklyn, so I see that a lot. :lmao: In my old neighborhood especially, because it was near Bensonhurst. In my new neighborhood, I don't see it as much. My DH doesn't like gold, but he sometimes wears this silver chain and matching bracelet, and even silver earrings. I hate that!!!

My dad is Italian and this was in the 70s...he wore a gold chain with a bull horn on it!:rotfl2:He does not wear it anymore or any jewelry. In family, for religious events, like communions or confirmations, kids do get chains and religious medals, but I think it is more of a keepsake or something a boy might wear on a wedding (but not seen).

DSS17 went through a 'rapper' phase when he wore a heavy silver chain, large watches and a big belt buckle. The more bling the better in his books. Thankfully, he has gone back to his normal unassuming self and only wears a very plain signet ring that he got as his grad gift.

My DH will be 45 in Sept, he wears a simple chain with a gold saint or something on it. :scared1: Somewhere around here he has a tacky gold bracelet hanging around. California born and bred. I don't know where he gets it oter then he is half cuban. My cousins that have half mexican babies put alot of gold jewelry on their little girls AND boys. I couldn't be creeped out more.

yeah latins wear alot of gold.. i personally do not like jewalary at all and im a woman
