Men and Gold Chains

DH wears a simple gold chain all the time. He usually has his wedding band on it too since it's too dangerous for him to wear it to work. I never realized how many people thought it was tacky :confused3 A bunch of gold chains or super heavy chains I can see looking tacky, but not DH's (IMHO)

eta: we're in Boston area and DH is not Italian, so there goes those theories, lol!

My husband wouldn't wear a gold chain or a ring (other than his wedding band) for love or money.

DH wears a longer gold chain with a Celtic cross on it, but it is under his shirt, except when he is swimming or something. But it's not the smarmy gold chain look, if you know what I mean.

DH only wears his wedding ring. He hates jewelry on men. My 15 year old DS on the other hand loves jewelry:lmao:. He raided my "old hippy" jewelry for the Bali and Celtic silver necklace and bracelets. Oh well, at least it's just the surfer dude look and not the Italian Stallion look. DH is trying very hard not to gag . :rotfl:

When I first started dating my DH he wore a gold chain that was a gift from his mother. He also showed up for our first date in a polo style shirt in a plaid print. Eek!

I am not a fan of the gold chain on a man either and I think my DH looks much better since I started giving him wardrobe advice.

All I have in my head is a bunch of Benson Hurst Italians wearing track suits and climbing into their mid 80's Cameros that have the Italian pepper (I refuse to call it a horn, and I'm half Sicilian) hanging from the rear view mirror. Oh, and they are all named Guido and buy pants with the bigger number first (48w34l).

Retro. I had no idea this was back in style again. And puka shell necklaces too?:lmao:

Have I ever told you about my blind date I forever referred to as "Abdulla and the magic buttons." Yes, his name was Abdulla (not sure if I'm spelling it correctly. I swear, everytime he turned around another button was undone on his shirt exposing more hairy chest and gold chains. I haven't thought about that in years - it makes me want to giggle even now!

:lmao::lmao: I see that, I totally see that.

Does it matter if it is gold or silver? I think DH still wears a silver chain I gave him almost 30 years ago. But it is not heavy, it is on the thinner side and always under his shirt.

I don't like the heavy or multiple chain look, but I really don't like earrings on men. That is one look I just never could get used to. I thought I would the more I saw it, but I haven't.

LOL - here in NJ, a lot of men wear gold chains, bracelets, and rings - even toddlers sport the chains and bracelets. My DH is italian, but doesn't wear anything except his wedding ring, although he did own a bracelet.

Here in New Mexico silver chains are a bit popular with men. A lot of them wear saint medals or crosses.

You say you've never seen a man with a gold chain? Come to the Jersey shore. Home of hairy Italians (chest and back) with gold chains. They sit on the beach greased up smoking their cigars with their beer bellies hanging over their speedos. It's not a pretty picture.
This was the first thing I noticed at the Miami Beaches when I was 17. I didn't even know places sold speedos in those sizes LOL.

When I met my husband(1990) he wore a gold chain with a cross(small).
I really think almost all the guys in high school and college age wore chains when I was that age.
He doesn't wear any jewelry at all now except his wedding ring and a watch.

I see chains all the time on men still (I do live in NJ ;))
I think it looks fine-if it's one thin chain with one thing on it-a cross or a saint's medal for example, and I think earrings look fine, as well.
I never thought about it one way or the other, probably because it's so prevalant--and not just on hairy Italians.:rotfl:

Rings other than a wedding ring(and please, no big diamonds on men!) and bracelets are the things that I think look awful.

yep, jersey here also. My husband and son have thin rope chains they wear. Its very common for the kids to have chains wth crosses and bracelets also. I never give it a second look.

not a pacific northwest look!
I don't care for necklaces or bracelets on men....but actually like most earings.....?????

I see men wearing chains with crosses and sometimes wedding rings. I see nothing wrong with it with the right clothing.

Gotta have some bling-bling to attract those cougars ya know! :cool1: :teeth:

I wear a silver hammered pendant to rennie festivals and by the end of the festival the pendant is driving me up the wall. :rotfl:
